The movie takes place in California. Tara Holmes lives in San Francisco but in Act II she moved to the country side where Joe Wright and his daughter live. Initially, Tara found out on laptop that he lives in Pacifian, fictional town in California, but that town's ZIP code is 94911 which is San Rafael, CA. To further mess thing up, around half of the movie it was shown on Twitter that Tara is actually in Pleasant Hill, CA where Joe lives. To bolster this, movie shows several times stock footage of Pleasant Hill. So where Joe lives in the end? In reality, movie was shot in Kentucky.
The movie takes place in California, and yet almost every featured car didn't have license plate on the front. According to CVC §§4850, every vehicle registered within the state must have a license plate on the front and the rear. However, the movie was shot in Kentucky where vehicles don't have to have license plate in the front. It's even funnier that Ben's Hyundai Sonata didn't have license plate on the front, but the back one was Californian one. Only in the Act III there is finally one car with the license plate on the front - Colleen's Audi A6. Probably somebody finally figured out that California law is different from Kentucky one, but it was too late to reshoot other scenes.
