Synopsis

  • Lincoln takes Clyde to an outdoor market, where they encounter a group of percussionists known as the Bucket Bashers. Clyde, who has lately been highly interested in drumming to only Lincoln's knowledge, immediately becomes fascinated by the Bucket Bashers and expresses interest in joining them. He denies it to Lincoln's face, but since Lincoln has been best friends with Clyde for so long, he can decipher the mixed messages. Meanwhile, as Mr. Loud is busy preparing dinner, two of his daughters, Leni and Luan, arrive home excited with some news that they describe as "totes amazing" and "really amazing," respectively. Leni expresses her news first. At the same outdoor market where Lincoln and Clyde went, Leni went shopping for souvenirs. While doing so, she ran into her social studies teacher, Mr. Rickshaw, who had an American pioneering era-themed station set up for any of his students who wanted extra credit to come to. Leni was the first of Mr. Rickshaw's students to arrive, albeit by complete accident, and she engaged in activities like panning for gold, which was enough for her to garner plenty of extra credit. With all the extra credit she got from attending the event, provided she gets a good grade on her upcoming oral report, she will receive her first-ever A. Luan shares her news afterward. Her idol, a legendary comedian named Joan Shivers, is making her grand return, and she will headline Sunset Canyon Retirement Home, the local senior center, on her retirement home tour. Shivers will perform in the after-dinner show over the weekend, and Luan has secured an opportunity to perform in the opening act. Having heard the news, Mr. Loud, now excited for his two daughters, supports them both and wishes them luck. Later, Clyde arrives to talk to Lincoln, who has officially decided to become his manager. Lincoln quickly reveals that he has booked Clyde a gig with the Bucket Bashers scheduled for two weeks ahead of the current day. However, upon hearing this, Clyde becomes nervous because he has never drummed in front of a public crowd before, instead preferring to do it mostly inside his closet. To help Clyde overcome his potential stage fright, Lincoln decides to take him to Sunset Canyon Retirement Home so he can practice drumming in front of a public crowd. Suddenly, Mr. Loud barges into Lincoln's room, having heard that he is starting a talent agency, and asks him to become a manager for his band, the Doo Dads. However, Lincoln dismisses his father because Clyde already has him occupied, and he is comfortable with handling only one client at a time. The next day, Lincoln takes Clyde to Sunset Canyon Retirement Home, ready to help him gain confidence regarding performing in front of crowds. While Lincoln is busy working with Clyde, Mr. Loud comparingly makes self-entitled remarks about what his son is doing for his client. However, Lincoln quickly realizes that his father is trying to become his next client once again, and not interested in dealing with two clients at once, he quickly dismisses him, still preoccupied with Clyde and taking the show business very seriously. An audience member then escorts Mr. Loud to his seat, which he had reserved because he is attending the Joan Shivers comedy tour to see Luan perform in the opening act. Meanwhile, Leni has been cramming to prepare for her oral report but has found no success in memorizing anything. Her sister, Luna, arrives in her bedroom, having heard about how Leni could potentially receive her first A, only to find the results not very pleasing. Leni tells her that she is no good at studying, but Luna suggests that she should view the presentation differently than how it appears on the surface. She then decides to help Leni study for the report in a way that could change everything for her, especially her learning methods. Meanwhile, Luan goes live on stage, and throughout her performance, Clyde provides percussive sound effects in the background. After the opening act ends, Lincoln tells Clyde that he has booked him another gig, so they must leave now. Clyde then leaves for his next gig, which turns out to be assisting Luna as she helps Leni study for the oral report. Luna explains how her preferred method of studying for anything she needs to memorize for school is by means of writing a song about it. After Leni explains that her report is over the Calvin Coolidge administration, Luna quickly manifests a song about that exact topic, then sings it as she goes. While Luna sings the song, Leni writes down some notes as she goes to help herself manifest what she must discuss during her oral report. Meanwhile, at Sunset Canyon Retirement Home, Joan Shivers closes out her comedy performance, and after she has left the stage, Luan meets her backstage. While they meet backstage, Luan tells Shivers that she is extremely talented, and Shivers replies by saying she "wishes [she] could say the same thing about [her]." Luan initially perceives this as a joke, but Shivers quickly tells her she means it as a truth bomb. When Luan asks for constructive criticism, Shivers tells her to lose her ventriloquism dummy, Mr. Coconuts, describing it as a "cheap gimmick" that gets all the laughs. She then tells Luan that the only audience member she noticed taking some laughs from her was her father before dismissively advising her to quit her comedic career altogether. Heartbroken due to her idol's dismissal of her, Luan retreats home. Meanwhile, Leni practices giving her oral report before Luna and Clyde. Unfortunately, she only seems to recall mixed messages from Luna's song, which drives her to a sense of embarrassment that completely consumes her. Overwhelmed by such embarrassment, she storms out of Luna's room to assess the situation by having a mental breakdown in privacy. Suddenly, Lincoln gets a call from the Bucket Bashers, then runs to find Clyde. He tells Clyde that the date of his gig with the Bucket Bashers has gotten rescheduled for the next day. However, Clyde finds it outrageous, and having only drummed in front of people twice, he angrily decides to quit, excusing himself that he has not had sufficient time to prepare, and leaves in extreme rage. Lincoln catches up with Clyde and explains that his gig with the Bucket Bashers got moved because one of their members kicked his bucket and ultimately injured his foot, leaving him unable to perform. He then tries to make the situation work, but Clyde still does not want to rejoin because he is nervous about it and cannot resolve conflicts like his friend can. Later, Luna comes to check on Leni, who is disappointed because of the effects of her misconception that dressing like she is intelligent would make her more academically successful. However, while Leni gives examples of how her idea could have changed her, she mentions many historical events, which Luna hears, leading her to realize that the ideal way for Leni to study for the oral report is by using her sense of fashion since that is her area of expertise and helps to keep her engaged. Leni then utilizes her sense of fashion as Luna advised, and on the day of her presentation, she delivers the oral report flawlessly and gets an A+ as her grade. Meanwhile, Mr. Loud finds Luan, who refuses to take his advice after hearing her idol dismiss her as a comedian and now wants to abandon the idea of having a career in show business altogether. Knowing that his daughter will not take his advice, no matter how hard he tries, he gives her a pep talk through a puppet version of himself and convinces her not to listen to other people when they criticize her for her talent. Luan later performs at Joan Shivers' next comedy performance at the senior center, and she gets a positive review from the crowd, including Shivers herself. Meanwhile, Lincoln finds Clyde drumming in the closet, ready to confess that although he tried to work as Clyde's manager, he became obsessed with the job and made it all about himself, so now the time has come for him to retire since he wants to view Clyde as a friend, not as a client. Later, Mr. Loud takes his daughters and Lincoln to the outdoor market to celebrate their successes. When Mr. Loud tries to become Lincoln's client again now that Clyde has left him, Lincoln tells him that he has retired from show business. However, Clyde suddenly arrives and tells Lincoln to think again, now ready to perform with the Bucket Bashers as a substitute for the bandmate who cannot perform due to his recent injuries. Clyde then performs with the Bucket Bashers, and they all watch as he drums along with them.
