- Ming launches a Frost Satellite with the power to blanket the earth with a veneer of frost and enslave all of humanity.
- Ming has developed a Frost Satellite with which he plans to blanket Earth in a veneer of frost and enslave the human race. However, controlling such large amounts of frost requires a Star-blue Crystal, so he asks Octon where one can be obtained. Octon replies that Mandrake is presenting a Star-blue Crystal to the Central Ciry Museum that afternoon and Ming sends two of his Frost People to steal it.
At the Central City Museum, Mandrake projects images with his wand as he explains that Star-blue Crystals travel the Universe in clusters of three. One of these clusters was captured by Earth's gravity millions of years ago, but broke up on entering the planet's atmosphere. Moments after Mandrake finishes his spiel on Star-blue Crystals, the Frost People Ming sent to the Museum strike. One of them fires beams of ice from his eyes, shattering the glass case containing the Crystal, which his companion then snatches. While Lothar deals with the first Frost Person, Mandrake and the kids go after the thief. Mandrake confuses the thief by creating illusory duplicates of his ship, distracting him long enough for Rick and LJ to restrain him while Jedda takes the Crystal from him.
The Frost People are taken to Monitor, but the veneer of frost which puts them under Ming's control means they won't reveal why Ming wants the Crystals. However, the pair are placed inside a device Rick has invented which melts away the frost to reveal two men, one of whom is Jedda's old friend Elgar, who asks Jedda if she can forgive him for getting mixed up with Ming. Jedda says she can, though Rick seems less than pleased at the way she is looking at Elgar. Mandrake quickly asks if the other former Frost Person will introduce himself, to which the Phantom replies that the man's name is Zikry and that he is also known to himself and Jedda. Elgar promises that he and Zikry will help the Defenders all they can.
Meanwhile, Ming is trying to locate the other two Crystals, but Octon says he is still searching. Back at Monitor, the Defenders are trying to find the Crystals before Ming does and Dynak traces one of them to the Hidden City of Shintao in Central Asia. Taking the Skullcopter, the Phantom heads to Shintao to retrieve the Crystal, but Octon has picked up what Dynak told the Defenders and the Phantom arrives in Shintao to find himself confronted by some of the Ice Robots. After defeating the Ice Robots and retrieving the Crystal from a temple, the Phantom heads back to Monitor. Ming curses the Ice Robots' incompetence and Octon then reports that the third Crystal is buried in the ocean floor beneath Ice Station Earth, meaning the Defenders will be unable to prevent Ming from getting hold of it.
Jedda is giving Elgar a guided tour of Monitor when Rick appears and tells her the Phantom has the second Crystal. Rick then adds that he wants to talk to Jedda alone, prompting Elgar to withdraw. It quickly emerges that Rick doesn't entirely trust Elgar because he was one of Ming's Frost People, though Jedda points out that Elgar didn't become a Frost Person by choice and suggests that Rick is a little jealous. Meanwhile, Zikry steals one of the Defenders' communicators and uses it to contact Ming, to whom he remains loyal. When Lothar and LJ pick up a coded transmission coming from inside Monitor, they contact Rick and Jedda who say they will check it out. Elgar catches Zikry in the act of communicating with Ming and tries to stop him, only for Zikry to shoot him with a stun gun, then tell Rick and Jedda (who appear on the scene moments later) that he caught Elgar contacting Ming.
Later, Elgar tells Jedda what really happened, to which Jedda says she believes him. Kshin (who, along with Zuffy, is right outside the room where Elgar has been detained) backs Jedda up, as does Zuffy, and Elgar thanks them. Suspecting that Zikry is up to no good, Kshin decides that he and Zuffy are going to keep an eye on him. Shortly after, Dynak reports that Ming has the third Crystal and is about to launch the Satellite with which he will blanket Earth in a veneer of frost. With no time to stop the launch, the Defenders will have to destroy the Satellite in space, but they need the orbital co-ordinates in order to do so. Ming launches the Satellite, but before Dynak can tell the Defenders the co-ordinates, Zikry deliberately shuts her down. Kshin uses his martial arts skills to stop Zikry from destroying Dynak completely, but ends up being chased by him.
Fleeing from Zikry, Kshin calls for help over his communicator. Lothar tells Flash and Rick to continue working on repairing Dynak while he, Mandrake, the Phantom, LJ and Jedda rescue Kshin. Zikry is about to make another attempt to destroy Dynak when Kshin, whom Zikry has pinned under his arm, bites his wrist. This causes Zikry to let go of Kshin and prevents him from doing any major damage to Dynak. However, Zikry has already cut Dynak's power and, with less than an hour to go before the Satellite is in position, the Defenders have to get Dynak back online quickly, even though this means Rick must risk turning the power on at full strength. One of Dynak's cables overloads and ruptures, but Mandrake uses his powers to repair the damage and Dynak is soon fully functional again, enabling her to tell the Defenders the Satellite's co-ordinates.
Zikry is detained and Elgar is released. The latter joins Flash, Rick, LJ and Jedda as they fly up to deal with the Satellite, getting into a fight with Ming's robo-ships along the way. Having destroyed the Satellite, Flash and the others return to Earth, where Elgar later tells Jedda he is taking Zikry for trial and plans to reunite with his family. Rick says he understands why Elgar, to whom he has now warmed, is so special to Jedda, to which she says no-one is as special to her as Rick. Seconds later, Kshin butts in, earning a glare from both Rick and Jedda.
