This movie is very good actually, it is well balanced, not exaggerating in miracles, "divine" powers etc., it "only" shows the life of Tukaram with much included wisdom and beauty. I am surprised by the low ranking, because it really brings the saint closer to humans in the way that humans can grasp his ideas and existence and learn from it. Perhaps there are some Hindutva elements, but in general it is quite universally conceived. Works quite peacefully on mind. Some poems (abhangas) of Tukaram are present there. Quite good casting, because it had to be mainly from Maharashtra villagers. Some nice images of Maharashtra.
  • Tukaram is really nice film and all the credit goes to Jitendra Joshi, He has done very convincing acting and has succeeded in portraying Saint Tukaram. Songs are nice as well but could be better. Full marks to editing and casting though and movie has the potential to take you back to old times. Talking about other actors then there is no scope to point out any mistakes in casting and since the movie revolves around life of Saint Tukaram then other things does not matter that much. Direction is exceptionally good. Since the genre of this movie is Biography the movie seems to be made while keeping that in mind and hence there is neither unnecessary Drama or Surprises nor any loud acting and more time is given to cover up the real story of Saint Tukaram and produce detailed environment of that old time. So if you want to know real life of Saint Tukaram watch this movie. However I was expecting to listen more 'Abhangas' made by Saint Tukaram so I was less than satisfied in that area.

Great acting however some of key events were not shown in the movie towards end.

Troubled life of saint Tukaram by Brahmins were shown as balanced perhaps due to film directions and acting is carried out by Bramhins.

Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj character performing actors personality was below average especially after setting bar at TV serial.

The message is delivered and it is noteworthy that it's not easy to showcase criticism against Bramhin cast however it's done by a Bramhin director and portrayed by Bramhin actors.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Came here just to appreciate the director or whoever thought these 2 things....

    1. Creative!!! Execution Of "Tukobanchya gatha taranglya" (literature work floated on river).

So the story is bhramins force Tukoba to throw his Gatha(literature work) in river and it floats by God's grace.... In Movie gatha sinks but ppl start chanting ovi (lines) 1 by 1 indirectly representing book sinked but literature is still alive floating in ppl's mind

    2. Exact selection of characters.... Jitendra Joshi and Radhika Apte.... I don't think any1 else cud have done those characters so efficiently....
  • Hats off to all the cast for their great presentation about thoughts of the great Tukaram maharaj.
  • Very beautiful and good movie on sant Tukaram maharaj.
  • Acting, songs, direction all best. All songs are heart touching,
  • Movie is created with nowadays time consideration. It is more like biography of Sant Tukaram like it is stating some events of his life. In vaarkari sampradaay it is said that Sant Dyaneshwar created base of vaarkari sampradaay and Sant Tukaram is epitome of vaarkari sampradaay, i.e. Sant Tukaram is highest point of Vittal Bhakti. In movie Sant Tukaram is portrait as a typical poet. Sometimes we feel that it is a commercial film with less devotion. BTW acting is good and dialogue delivery is also good. First time when I watch this movie I feel it is a great movie on Sant Tukaram. But when I watched Sant Tukaram movie release in 1936 which is of full of devotion towords Vitthal bhagwan then I feel some negative point as stated above.
