After a protest turns violent, rebellious teenager Ella is forced to leave Oakland, CA to live with her estranged father and his family in Johannesburg, South Africa. And all too soon she realizes that things may not be as they seem.

Ella's failed attempt to flee South Africa results in chaos at school and forces her to go to great lengths to cover her tracks so she doesn't get caught. But it seems like school may be the least of the problems heading her way.

Ella strikes an unlikely deal with her stepmother, Dianne, in hopes of returning back to Oakland. However, she soon discovers that her plans are not so easily executed.

Ella gains an opportunity to hang out with Noko, and new questions about the 'mission' she has to carry out surface.

An unexpected, adrenaline-filled night comes crashing to a close as Ella finds herself caught in her own lie.
