The five women who reside at the center of "Tyler Perry's The Single Moms Club" are united by the fact that their misbehaving children have all been put on probation by the private school they attend. In response to this and other issues, the gals form their own support group to help them cope with the very real and very specific challenges they face trying to rear children on their own.
The women represent a neat (a little too neat, perhaps) cross section of modern America, culled from a variety of races and economic strata, differences that are ultimately obliterated by the common bond of single motherhood. The movie focuses on the compromises - financial, moral, personal and romantic - that these harried women have to make in order to get through life.
Though "The Single Moms Club" is slightly less cartoonish than many of Perry's previous films (no Madea in sight!) and it does offer some insights into the struggles facing such women, the movie, as a whole, lacks the verisimilitude needed to make the material convincing. For all the fine actresses that Perry has assembled for his cast (Nia Long, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Zulay Henao, Cocoa Brown and Amy Smart), the characters themselves lean too much towards the stereotypical and clichéd - the sassy, plus-sized black woman whose husband and two oldest boys are in the poky; the uptight, snooty rich white woman who's making her way up the corporate ladder and, thus, had her daughter through artificial insemination; the petite suburban blond with the hunky, albeit sensitive, next door neighbor, etc.
Perry himself appears, not in drag this time, portraying the romantic interest of one of the mothers. "Brooklyn Nine-Nine's" Terry Crews is also one of the men in the cast.
But it's the five actresses who rise, if only partially, above all the slickery and goo.

This is my first time writing a review so don't the judge me. Single Clubs is defiantly not Tyler Perry's best work. After watching the trailer I was convince this was going to be a funny memorable movie. Boy I was wrong. It was slow , boring and the dialogue was poor. Not even Nia Long could save it. There were a few laughs here and there I give it that but it just showcased the boring lives of five single women and there bratty kids. I took two bathroom breaks while watching it in the theater and didn't feel guilty at all. I didn't learn any mortal lesson from watching this. The only memorable performance was Terry Crew's character. Over all a forgettable film. Peach out.
What's wrong with you guys? A good comedy with a nice story, funny jokes and brilliant performances
how many movies of this kind have been made? Why rate it so low (3,8 at the moment I'm writing)?
Well I think that this movie is OK, the girls are sexy (some of them to be precise), males are nice (most of them), kids are small, smart, endearing kids and the overall result is a well written, heartwarming comedy.
Don't be fooled by the low rating which I think it's going to get higher. I'd give it a 6,5 but since this is impossible, I'll give it a solid 7, just to start.

I am a first time reviewer
but after reading some of the reviews I wanted to chime in.
If you are in the mood for a rainy Sunday afternoon lifetime type movie, this is the movie to watch. It is a well told story with drama and comedy that compliment each other. I had some actual LOL moments and the story progressed well.
The initial character building works; I knew the characters and cared about them within the first ten minutes. The story does get stuck towards the middle but quickly recovers.
My favorite thing about this movie is that there are some awesome scenes that, in my opinion, are simply extraordinary.
If you approach this movie with the intention of being entertained and a bit enlightened, then you will not be disappointed.

I thought this would be a good film, due to the cast but like many of Tyler Perry films, this fell completely flat. This film lacked any true character developments and emotions.Like all of his other films, it has so many clichés and points out obvious issues as a joke.It has a lot of stereotypes; from rich white women who can't manage their kids, poor black women that cant get a break but has to stay strong for all her kids while living in poverty, working women that are struggling both juggling their jobs and kids and of course the single mom not looking for love but finds it.This movie is so hard to watch. It seems like everything in this film is forced from the awkward flat jokes to the wannabe heart-felt moments. It seems the more movies Tyler Perry makes, the less realistic and forced they become.Maybe if this was under better direction, like all his other films needed(except Madea films, there was no help for those)these would have been great movies.

The story follows five single moms, each one with her own problems, got together and decide to form a support group for themselves after they meet at their teenage children's school. The single moms are Jan who is a successful career woman with a teenage girl whom she rarely spend time with; May, a fledgling writer with a teenage boy, and her ex-husband disappoints their son over and over again; Hillary who is a mother of three, with her oldest daughter is on the time of turning into a physically mature woman; and Lytia is a waiter with a guy crazy about her yet she keeps rejecting; while Esperanza has a boyfriend whom she keeps secretly in fear that her ex-husband will cut her off child support.
The basic story somewhat relates to many women, whether in the US or other English-speaking countries. No wonder this movie can manage to get to Box Office. The cast selection shows that this movie wasn't designed for greatness from the very start. The acting is achieved overall is thus a so-so. That thing made character development limited only to what the story and screenplay provides, that even those are insufficient. One more thing that boggles me is that the story is not given a chance to develop completely. It is as if the movie is forced to meet a target of being about 90 minute in length. The ending is even so abrupt because the final conflict is plainly strange.
For a movie that falls into Comedy genre on IMDb, the jokes are mostly corny or just plain not funny at all. There is the drama element, alright. But even the drama isn't developed well. And when there is a scene of heightened emotional moment, the acting spikes drastically from so-so up to overacting. One thing though, I was surprised to see Terry Crews here, and it is a comedy in itself.
I guess I don't really have a say on the other aspects such as costumes, makeup or music scoring and soundtrack. Not because they are bad, I think they are just okay. It's just that the overall quality of the movie is just relatively bad. So I guess this is the second time, back to back, Tyler Perry has made a movie that is not of a relatively good quality, after last year's "A Madea Christmas".
For me, it's a 3 out of 10 scoring movie. No, I don't recommend you to see it. Well, if only the story is developed better, maybe that'll help.

Even though I am not a single Mom I could completely relate to this movie. I lived the life of a child raised by a single Mom and now, as an adult, can see my Mom in these ladies. She would have been in there with them, supporting, hands-on, and struggling.
I really enjoyed the personalities of these characters and felt like I wanted to know them. The subject matter in the film is serious but the way these women come together and learn from one another is inspiring. It makes me feel happy and hopeful. I hope there truly are women out there that are able to support one another through the trials and hardships, dreams and laughter. This is the first Tyler Perry film I have seen. I will be checking out more of them hoping that they are as heartwarming as this was for me.

Until now no movie has ever come close to the first wives club to talk about single wives In a nice simple and moving way. and this one is so depressing and
boring. such bad acting and bad dialougs Tyler Perry's movies keeps getting more awful. such waste of time. I was stuck for two hours watching really bad movie On the laptop. The actors in the film were at their worst ever.
very bad combination if actors they completely don't fit together. very lame story. Terrible in every way. such naiive and stupid story. I couldn't wait for it to be over.

Five single women are having trouble. Problems include needing to work too many hours, dealing with difficult ex's, depression, unwanted suitors, unrealized aspirations, and, of course, loving children who can act out. One day, all five are summoned to the principal's office at their well-reputed private school. Two of the kids have been caught painting graffiti and the others were smoking. Because of this, the principal informs them, this quintet of ladies will be planning the fund-raising school dance. Ouch. As some of the mothers don't really know one another, this seems challenging. But, lo and behold, once the gals start working together, they form a support group that works for each other's benefit, including taking turns babysitting so that everyone can have a "night out". Meanwhile, each woman connects with an interested male, surprisingly, and begins or extends a relationship. Then, a crisis occurs which may split the group apart. Will it be so? This lovely, funny, and sweet movie will please fans of romantic comedy and those who adore Mr. Perry, who is one of the cast members, too, as well as the writer and director. What a tour de force this man is! The rest of the cast, too numerous to mention by name, is very attractive and talented, making for a great view. Kudos to the child actors as well. The setting is also extremely fetching, as are the costumes and cinematography. Perhaps some mention should be made of a couple of minor problems. There are some sexual innuendos and one of the ladies tends to actually "beat up" on the man who has a crush on her. It's funny but annoying at the same time. Nevertheless, all of you potential fans, make plans to catch this one. It is a singularly welcome movie.
I was unsure going into this movie, but I generally like Tyler Perry so I decided to give it a shot. It had a lot of potential, but fell somewhat short in it's intentions. It was okay overall but he has definitely produced better work. It was filled with stereotypes as another reviewer said, but I also think it is the reality in many situations. Perry also did a good job of showing that every single mom has her own unique story, yet can relate to other women experiencing single parenthood. The best thing about this movie is the beautiful and talented Nia Long. She fit the role well and played it with grace and class as she always does. I think they could have gone in a different direction at some points in the movie, but overall, it was a good heartfelt and somewhat humorous film.

Tyler Perry's The Single Moms Club is cute and fun to watch. This is the kind of film you can rent on a free weeknight or weekend and just sit back and enjoy yourself. The acting in this movie is very good and the characters are very The acting in this movie is very good and the characters are very well written, they fit the actors. Wendi Covey is absolutely hilarious and I just laughed my head off whenever she was saying a line or just on screen, she really brought a lot of the comedy and carried a lot of the comedic material in the film. Nia Long was actually very good and I loved her character! Amy Smart was all right, but I did feel like parts of her performance were a bit lazy. I think Amy tried, but I don't think she completely succeeded with her performance overall. I think Tyler Perry did a pretty good job of writing funny and interesting dialogue between the ladies, they all had good friendly chemistry with each other, you could really see the obvious strong bond between them all. I liked the individual story lines, and I thought that they intertwined well. There were some lines that were a little bit cheesy and a couple of performances that seems kind of hammy, but they were pretty far and few in between. I enjoyed seeing Terry Crews make an appearance here, he was funny and created an interesting dynamic. Cocoa Brown is just awesome here! I loved her energy and just her presence in the film. William Levy is a good addition to the list of cast members, he is hot, sweet, romantic and gives a good well rounded performance. Overall, it's a cute sweet but occasionally cheesy movie. 7/10.

I really enjoyed this movie. It was funny, provided a few tears, and projected the real struggles single mothers have to deal with. It is not easy for single mothers to raise children, especially when they do not receive any financial or emotional support from the fathers....and sometimes, not from family members either. The movie pointed out these issues.
This movie showed some of the pain single mothers go through without being too harsh. The movie added jokes and silliness to soften some of the drama within the movie. I found this to be a delightful movie.
I guess the reason some of the reviewers gave the movie such low ratings was because they may have felt it was the typical Tyler Perry movie....Black church, drugs, abused women, and pain. No, this movie was nothing of the kind.
Again, a very delightful movie. Kudos to Tyler Perry.

This is a realistic movie about the inequality of divorce settlement in America. Imagine if your ex husband had the power to put you out of the house for seeing someone else while he is married to someone else, talk about control! In the meantime, because the children of these 5 women were late being picked up and caught defacing the school property or smoking on school property, their mothers (who happen to be all single moms) were made to form a committee for a school fund raiser, otherwise apart from being single mothers, with children going to the same private school, they have nothing in common. It is disheartening the number of sad stories there are about fathers abandoning their first families both financially and morally, leaving their children without a father figure at all!

I literally made an account on here just so I could down vote this movie. I love a majority female cast BUT CMON!! This movie relied so much of horrible stereotypes of all women Latina, white and black women. It's a Tyler Perry movie and I didn't have much hope but even for him this was a new low! It's was very horrible! I watched it when I was a kid and rewatched it as as an adult. I couldn't bare finishing it. I'd just say to other women, don't waste your time. It's horrible! Did not age well! As a women it was disrespectful to women all over. It wasn't heartfelt of any kind but really unkind to the image of single moms.

I think Single Mom's Club is a great idea for a movie. It's certainly not a blockbuster and it's definitely not a box office hit, but it's a cute movie that's probably relatable to many women; single mom or not.
There is a lot of great acting and quirky characters in this movie. Each of the 5 women have their own unique situation they are going through, and although some characters are a bit more easy to tolerate than others, they all have something about them that can be appealing. From completely helpless, to stubbornly independent, there is a spectrum of different approaches here to the idea of raising kids by oneself.
This movie is ultimately about friendship. It's about the strong bond that can be created when people of similar circumstances put aside their inherent differences and help each other. Yes, there area few plot holes here and there, and the ending is awkward and cheesy, but overall, it's a heartwarming story. A cute girls night kind of flick.

So I was surprised at this film. I was expecting broader slapstick, and just jokes. But this was a nicely done movie of intersecting stories of five (single) moms & how they deal with life.
I think it could have been sharper. It feels a bit languid. Some scenes just drag because they're "heartwarming." But it's got good stuff. And for the most part, the child actors do a very good job with their roles and lines.
Some parts that I had to suspend disbelief:
* Even a waitstaff at a coffee shop can afford private school for her kid * Everyone lives in a ginormous house with lots of stuff, furniture, knick-knacks--and no one seems to be cleaning these ginormous houses even though they must deal with jobs and kids and single-mom-ness. Yeah, it's a film, but still--it's a lot of stuff to have to take care of.
OK, and the outtakes were pretty darn funny. "You can have gluten today."

In spite of the low ratings on I MB Di thought the movie was very well done, another big hip. Or tyler perry n f l for casting was really good. I understand that sometimes certain movies are considered weak because of the territorial that they are covering but in this case I thought it was very well done and chemistry between the actors was spot on.. This is a feel good movie for really the whole family. And it just shows the struggles of a single mother. I think everybody can learn something from this movie and pretty brings it all home. So for me I have a recommend this movie to everyone. Please enjoy.
The title express the entire story where five women from different backgrounds unite to one club base on same issue - to raise their kids on themselves. Certainly this is a fair piece of support to those with the same situations so that you will never feel alone and I think this is also the main message of the entire movie - support needed when you are having difficulties in life. However, the plot is kind of predictable and there is no key of excitement at all even the child missing part might be the intended climax but fail to do so. Overall it is still a touching piece if you are experiencing the same issue especially the confrontation scene between the mother and child, when they express their true feeling of love.
