Wild West Doesn't Work
I love Sam Elliott, but the Wild West character simply does not work. It does not fit into Family Guy and every episode that involves the character is boring. Definitely does not live up to Adam West. This was a failed experiment that they need to move on from and find a new mayor. Elliot is great when he cameos as himself, but should be limited to that. At this point, I would much rather watch a Meg episode than more of the Wild West stuff. There is infinite potential for a better character in that position. I do not presume to have the answer to who would be a great replacement, but that's why they have dozens of highly paid riders on their staff, who are clearly not earning their paychecks at this point. I have watched family guy since day one and will continue to watch it regardless, but it's getting painful.

I think this is the beginning of the end of Family Guy...
Okay, I just watch this latest episode of Family Guy and... it was a big meh.
This episode is about when Peter and his friends try to help Mayor Wild West reconnect with his estranged father, Old West. And... I'm not going to spoiler the ending, but it looks pointless and lame.
The entire episode was just so-so! However, there were a couple of scenes that makes me laugh. But sadly, this episode has a weak plot device. And also, there was just one cutaway scene about David Geffen and... I didn't even laugh about it! What a lame unfunny cutaway. And like always: they couldn't stop talking about the Jan. 6th event and nobody cares about that anymore. And FYI, I'm actually a liberal, I don't mind if they still make fun of right-wingers, but the same old Jan. 6th joke is just tiresome. Make fun of something else! Even South Park knows how to write new better jokes.
If Family Guy wants to keep going, then they should find some new great comedy writers or if they wanna keep writing new pointless episodes... just end it already.
I give this episode a 5 out of 10!

O God
I am a huge Family Guy fan but I just saw the pictures and what this episode was about and I thought: "O God this is gonna suck...".
And unfortunatly I wasn't wrong. I never clicked with this new weird Sam Elliot Mayor character... it feels like they just sometimes at random send Sam a small check to say a couple of lines because of that voice of him. Never felt like he's actually a part of Family Guy.
So I immediatly feared a totally uninteresting episode because of two new, made up, not grounded characters that I don't care about at all in a totally uninspired 'quick write' story.
In fact it was SO uninteresting I just couldn't finish it. Had to turn it off after 16 minutes and that hardly EVER happens between me and Family Guy.

Completely agree with suggestions to cancel it already
Same as other reviewers here, I'm a long-time Family Guy fan and have seen all the (good) episodes countless times.
But what they've been doing with the show for the last few years is just dragging it ALL the way down to its grave and ruining any positive legacy it could've ended with...
I wonder what these voice actors think when they come in to do the voicing and there's just bland most boring dialogue on the sheet... It's not like they need the cash or something.
MacFarlane has been out of production part for the last FIFTEEN years, as the creator of the show, he should definitely pull the plug on it, seeing what it has become...

Just cancel the show already.
I watched the episode and didn't smile once..not a single moment of comedy and the voice acting is plain terrible now. Just cancel the show and save it from this miserable slow painful death.
The last time I laughed during a family guy episode was somewhere in season 19. Since then, everything has gone downhill. The stories are just random pieces of crap and the core characters of family guy are no longer what we all used to love.
This one was particularly annoying. Because the group with Peter, Quagmire, Cleveland and Joe got together for an adventure and got me excited and then completely let me down with the terrible story.
Please Cancel this show already. I'm a long time fan and I don't want to end up hating the show.

Very interesting episode
Great Father's day episode for a mid season return. The entire plot with Peter and his friends trying their best to reunite Mayor West with his father was interesting building some unity between their strained relationship. It's definitely worth watching. 9.6/10. Season 21 is one of the better recent seasons. Some of the episodes capture elements of both old and new versions of the show. The characters are starting to get better, fast paced storylines and showing depth to their original and current personalities. I'm hoping the rest of the season reinvent the show's quality again. It'll take time though.
Why Is This Show Still Going?
How is this show still going? I don't think this show has even the twentieth viewer numbers of its earlier seasons. I thought I was the only one dumb enough to still continue to watch the show, and I don't even pay for it!
So how is it that this show is still going? Bigger shows have been canceled over bigger viewership than this show.
It's honestly really sad that I don't even have more than 3 actual laughs in a season of this show anymore out of the 20 episodes they put out each season. There are one or two episodes that stand out each season or every other season, but that's it, out of 20 or something episodes, only one stands out and it's not even that good, but the standards have been lowered so much that a decent episode feels refreshing and great.
And the funny thing is, 95% of the time, those episodes are probably just referencing other shows and movies or just recreating some famous movies. So they still can't write a decent story for their own characters and world to save their lives.
American Dad has had a long run too, and that show too is not as funny and creative as it once was, but the new American Dad is like 7/10 if the earlier seasons were 9/10. But Family Guy's later seasons or maybe even the second half of the seasons have been a 5/10 - if we're being generous - compared to the 8/10 it was in the earlier seasons.
American Dad is the total contrast to this show and its writers. The opposite of what I said about the decent episodes of this show can be applied to American Dad. There are only a couple of bad episodes per season and even those have their actually funny moments that make you laugh.
That show has its own unique characters and settings and writers take advantage of that and actually care enough about the characters to make them included in their episodes and the stories they write, whereas in Family Guy, the kids don't even appear more than 2 minutes in some episodes.
American Dad actually writes plots and stories about the characters compared to FG which relies on pop culture references every minute to make boomers laugh or something, and American Dad is ironically more mature and adult than this show and it's ten times funnier.
This episode's plot was just plain uninteresting. Mayor West was fairly interesting at first when he was introduced, but now has become a boring uninteresting character and this was probably his most mid plot ever.
I much rather them go back to evil Stewie and his sci-fi shenanigans with Brian, and Peter hanging out with Jesus again, than watch another boring "plot" - if you can call it that - about a boring character and his dad or something.
They should either actually sit down and think of decent plots that involve at least half the main family and actually earn their paycheck, or just end the show and spare us the misery of watching the nth episode of season 35 with another boring unfunny and uninteresting story.
