In April we get treated with an explosion of flowers, but it can still be chilly at night. Bartel takes a look in the fruit nursery to protect the blossoms against night frost. But Bartel himself is neither standing still. With the slogan "one single flower tells just as much as a grand bouquet", he goes together with florist Stijn Simaeys out to surprise the people on the street with a flower. And we continue putting the flowers outside. In the Hallerbos we enjoy an unique carpet of hyacinths.

The temperatures are increasing and the days get longer, therefore the perfect moment for a garden party. Bartel proves you don't need a lot to do that. You can make a cosy bar with just some fruit boxes for example. The party garden of Filip is less back to basic. No costs or efforts were saved for making the Communion of daughter Julie an unforgettable day. In Leuven he lawn chairs were also brought up. The senior association enjoys the sun in their cosy garden. Of course a petanque track can not be lacking here.

The second Sunday of May is the holiday for all our mothers. Bartel doesn't want this day to pass just like that. But first we start with the mother of all mothers: the Holy virgin Maria, who gets worshipped in thousands of chapels in Flanders. In May it is tradition to cover these chapels with flowers. Bartel meets some proud chapel keepers. Another tradition in May: the Mayboose or 'Maitrank' based on sweet woodruff. Herb woman Winiefred teaches Bartel how to make this by yourself. They make some more sweets from the garden: soup from dandelions and junket with Sanguisorba.

Today is an episode where we want to plant trees. Because today everything is about trees. Firstly Bartel looks for the right tree for his garden. If a tree is decent or not, depends on different factors. With the help of the tree-indicator, you can explore which tree fits best with your garden. In the arboretum in Klamthout you can be admitted for a collection of diverge and usually spectacular tree types. Bartel gets a tour from Wolf who's a passionate tree caretaker for already more than 40 years. But trees are not only pretty to look at, they're also good as trial of strength. The episode of today is about art. Art with trees, art with flowers and art with recycled material. In the nature area the Kalkense meersen Bartel meets artist Will Beckers, who wants to accentuate the human presence in a landscape with his land art. Of course we can't skip our visit to flower artist Daniel Ost. His loyal fans are from Japan, but earlier he flourished the Oscars and both the royal weddings. Bartel follows him while he finishes his flower artwork for the exhibition "Bouquet for Bruges". But art in the garden doesn't always need to be big or expensive. Bartel shows how you can make a lot of stuff by yourself with an old bike wheel, a pair of worn out shoes and some willow branches.

In most cities you can rent a little garden for a small amount. A berry bush is delicious and looks good in every garden. Unfortunately birds think the same way. You don't need to sit in your garden to enjoy a beautiful piece of nature. There are also unexpected places where you can discover green treasures like for example alongside the ring road of Brussels. Stefan spotted a piece of green along one of the busiest rail tracks of Ghent. Before it was a dumping-ground for garbage, now it's a wild plant playground of 1000 m3. But also the city itself works on an innovative way to create more green. Like for example in Hasselt, where they made a vertical garden.
