This episode of Adventure Time directly parallels one of the greatest episodes produced in the series Star Trek:TNG, "The Inner Light". In that episode Capt. Picard is hit with a beam from a probe, and he awakens on an unfamiliar planet. He finds he is married on that world, and he lives out his life there with his wife and the children they eventually had. He wakes up on the Enterprise, and apparently only 20 minutes had passed. In Puhoy Jonathan Frakes voices adult Finn, and Frakes starred as First Officer William Ryker on ST:TNG.
