  • Biriyani is definitely an entertaining movie. Karthi made his good comeback. Venkat Prabhu proved him once again as a Entertainer guarantee. Anyhow screenplay is bit similar to his previous Mankatha. VP also made some actors in unwanted cameo appearance for some sort of commercial appearance. New type of climax make you to feel Biriyani as a worthy movie. Cinematography Sakthi Saravanan made a good job and provide us a good color recipe. Editor Praveen & Srikanth made brilliant work which made a huge support to the movie. As his 100th movie Yuvan made some new type of songs & BGM which suits the story line perfectly. Cast including lead & supporting actors done their roll well.

Biriyani is mysterious comedy thriller with some interesting twists.

    Warning: Spoilers
"BIRIYANI"....yep! the title is supposed to be spelt like that because an average south Indian pronounces Biryani like that.

The movie promises a laughathon right from the credits were you are subjected to things like "A Venkat Prabhu Diet" instead of "A Venkat Prabhu Film".

The movie starts with a car chased by a couple of police vehicles and taking a leap over an unfinished Bridge and that's where Parsu played by Premji Amareen takes over the narration. He is in the doomed car along with his friend Sugan, whom Parsu blames for the situation they are in, and starts telling us what led to their present situation.

For starters! this is a dark/black comedy and you have situations galore where you end up laughing at dead bodies, at life and death situations.

The movie is also a thriller with a rather unconvincing end where the director decides to connect a seemingly unrelated incident in the beginning of the movie to the main plot of the movie, the twist is clever but rather unconvincing, when you actually go over everything leading to the main incident but nevertheless, the movie did a good job delivering the laughs it promised through Premji Amareen.

Sugan and Parsu are two childhood buddies. According Parsu, whatever Sugan wishes for he gets it and whatever Parsu wishes for Parsu does not get it, but Sugan gets it.

Sugan shares an off and on relationship with a television anchor Priyanka played by Hansika Motwani. Parsu is always on the move to move in whenever Sugan and Priyanka break up. This is because Parsu was the one who had been in love with Priyanka and when he seeks Sugan's help to get the girl, Sugan gets her for himself.

On one of the many breakups the couple have, Sugan gatecrashes into an interview by Priyanka. The guest happens to be Vardharajan, a business tycoon who is now in the limelight for a supposed scam. Sugan with a huge help from Parsu gets into the good books of Vardharajan and gets invited to a boring business party along with Parsu.

Parsu leaves the party along with Sugan and they start looking for joints serving late night biryanis. They end up on a highway restaurant and run into a Maya,(Mandy Thakkar). Maya invites the guys over for what seems to be a one night stand. The party gets interrupted when Vardharjan comes over, apparently Maya is Vardharajan's concubine.

Parsu and Sugan hide in the washroom have a drink and get into a "hangover" kind of situation i.e. when they wakeup, they have Vardharajan's dead body in the boot of their car and the cops hunting them down for supposedly Kidnapping Vardharajan.

The CBI is also on their trail because they believe that Vardharjan has gone into hiding to avoid an arrest.

The movie has many twists and turns where both the guys go over various hilarious scenarios as to what to do with the body.

The movie keeps its promise of delivering the laughs, they are so good that you can actually forgive the pathetic climax.

It is Premji Amareen's show all the way, with his brother directing it, he has been given the maximum footage and succeeds in chewing up the scenery even with the presence of Karthi. He is so spontaneous that you can't take your eyes off him.

Karthi, though the main lead has been magnanimous in letting Prem take up the show and looks rather sportive about it without losing his own hold. He is good as the compulsive flirt and as a wise guy who turns every disadvantage into an advantage.

Hansika Motwani has very little to do, and you barely realize that she is in the movie, it does not make any difference to the movie even if her character was edited out.

Mandy cannot act to save her life, but she manages to look hot on the screen-well! thats what her character was for anyways. She was real good in the Missisippi song, the only hummable number in the entire movie.

Strangely! the soundtrack is very bad without any of the songs apart from Missisippi being foot tappers.

Yuvan Shanker Raja lays a turkey egg with the music.

Venkat Prabhu's direction is top-notch, though he falters towards the ending, but if you discount that, the movie is fairly enjoyable. This guy has become a synonymous with movies with "different" story lines. This one comes close on heels after "Mangatha"-which could be termed as South India's first Dark Thriller, way to go man-if anything! this guy manages to convince the paranoid south stars to do "this" kind of cinema.

Well! I would recommend the movie, if you are looking for some good laughs and please leave your brain back home, you would not need it to watch this movie.

Well its safe to say that this movie was made for young men in particular. The family seated next to me and my friends mysteriously disappeared twenty minutes into the movie. The first 40 minutes is full scenes that will make you laugh if you are a Prem G fan or weep in agony if you are not. Its been a while since Tamil cinema gave us a who on god's green earth killed him thriller, so i guess you can let the first half pass. The Second half is much better than the first one and i must admit i was shocked when they revealed who the killer was. Karthi has had a lot of practice playing these Masala roles so he does not disappoint. Mandy Thakur got the biggest cheers when she came on screen(no surprises there as the audience was mostly male). You Tube Puyal Sam Anderson,Jai and a host of other Venkat Prabhu regulars make appearances here and there. The music was a major plus.It helped carry the first part of the movie and added a lot to the second one.In short, you can go for this if have nothing else to do.

very entertainment movie, full of jokes and action, After so long karti act as good very entertainment movie, nice songs ,very good fast screen play venkat prabu did the good work but not like mankatha. All other actors did well.Venkat Prabhu's movies portray a volley of characters and giving importance to every single of them is something that is special and close to his heart. Here Karthi and Premji steal the limelight with their timing comedy all over, however the rest of the villains, sidekicks and some cameo appearances by Jai, Arvind also makes you wonder how this guy is able to make amends meet. Through the first half the ingredients make up a commercial pot boiler and the build up to the story is slow and steady. Karthi the witty playboy always wins over the hearts of babe's and his best bud premji who tries and tries in vain.

This Venkat Prabu diet got my stomach upset or I'd say my mind upset. Considering the directors' previous movies this one is pretty ordinary. Yuvan was surprisingly let down comparing with the past Venkat Prabhus' (couldn't believe). Can't understand the addition of too much western classical with the BGM like Wagner's Here comes the bride, Handel's Messiah, Beethovan's Ode to joy etc. Too much spoofs in the movie. The first half was nasty with all the supporting casts wasted, imo. The comedy were predominantly forced with too much Premji's presence. Comical Scenes from 21 Jump Street were also copied.

The biriyani was still tasty in the second half esp. the amazing last 10 minutes that shows the actual Venkat Prabhu and saves this diet. The bottom line : A one time watch (few scenes not for kids due to sensuality/ drinking)for guys to enjoy some dark humor and a splendid climax.
  • Warning: Spoilers
The movie is very slow from the beginning and comedy track is also not so well. The twist in the story is also not so nice. I think I went to this movie with over expectation. Karthi is a very good actor and he done his job but not like in previous movies. Heroine part is very less. Supporting characters are not fully used. Repeated comedy from comedians. Second half is faster than the first half but still something there is missing in the film. Yuvan's music is backbone of this movie. I don't know why director not gave chances to the supporting characters like in his previous movie. I am waiting for his real movie. (Like Mankatha)
  • Venkat Prabhu is master in making this kind of films deals with Screenplay writing. First half deals with humour with a twist at Interval. Though Second half filled with thrilling moments the fun factor never leaves. Its always there even at emotional sequences. Thats something new. Some find its cringe. Pre climax and climax at best. Songs are just avg. Locations and bgm are ok. Karthi is too good in his role. Hansika is ok. Premji makes us laugh asusual. Rest all are okay. It was neither slow nor Fast. Its moderate to watch. Recommended.

A playboy and his best friend wake up from an all night hangover to find themselves in the middle of a murder-conspiracy. I don't have to say what the rest of the story is about.

The cat and mouse play is sprinkled in good proportion with humor. The Hero's sister herself frames a dialogue, "How can you joke in the middle of such a serious situation?" Therein lies the movie's uniqueness, despite being a crime thriller the script and characters have taken humor until the last frame. Nasser-Premji voice swap is bound to make your stomach knot.

Karthi, after a hat trick flop, has finally found the success formula which is: The hero needn't be a superman but any simple man pushed to extreme situations can turn into nothing short of a superman.

Premji, an assured in every Venkatprabhu project, has more screen presence than any of his previous attempts. He has gone shoulder to shoulder with Karthi until the end. Hansika is yet to find a role that will break loose her acting skills, if any. Nasser and Ramki, the veterans, make a gentle yet memorable presence.

Music is a letdown; too unfortunate this has to be Yuvan's 100.The director has, once again, proved his mettle with a fully nutritious diet.

The script has gone to great extents to prevent it from being stereotyped as a Hangover spoof and has even added a reference to the Hollywood flick. It has succeeded too.
  • To begin with, this film starts off with an absolutely different and fantastic opening with Karthi and Premgi trying to figure out their plight at the moment. As soon as the first song begins, you can already sense how different and fresh the film making is. As the story progresses, the audiences are revealed with the further details and characterization of the characters and story in an absolutely different manner. Then comes the intermission, which adds up the interest in the plot. In the end, director Venkat Prabhu hints an upcoming closure, which is then indirectly explained to the audiences. In a totally new style of film making, Venkat Prabhu has established himself as a trend setter and an absolutely creative director. Overall rating: 7.7/10 (68%)
  • It is comedy plus a good entertainer suspense thriller. If u r fan of karthi u will be definitely find it interesting.
  • It has everything that we need, being watching movies from the past 10 years i never enjoyed any film this much than watching Biriyani,it's like he is good at comedy, action, romance and the most important it has the twist that thrills us, if you happened to see his previous movies they are just 10 percent that what Director can create, and this Biriayni has his full potential shown, you believe it or not in the peaks of the climax as well, he never let down the comedy and in most of the films it felt like didn't worked, but not this case, that felt wow!,and if you see the Telugu Mississippi official trailer, that's just the trailer of the bonanza that we have in the film that's Venkat's style of Item song and i am sure you gonna love that for sure - Hats of to you Venkat.
