S1.E6 ∙ The Case of the Menendez Brothers Today

    Tue, Apr 18, 2023
Beverly Hills, California, August 20, 1989: Growing up surrounded by wealth, luxury and privilege, brothers Joseph Lyle Menendez, age 21, and Erik Galen Menendez, age 19, brutally murdered their father and mother in their Beverly Hills home. In their two highly publicized trials, the brothers admitted to the shotgun murders of Jose and Kitty Menendez, but claimed they acted in self-defense after their parents physically, mentally and sexually abused them for years. Their true motive was to cash in "early" on their large inheritance. However, the legal strategy of "blaming the parents for their own deaths" did not sway the juries for Lyle Menendez or Erik Menendez. Both young men were found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Fast forward to 2022. The infamous double murder case is back in the spotlight after questions arise around whether the murderous brothers, Lyle Menendez and Eric Menendez, should still be behind bars for the murder of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez. However, the brothers have run out of legal appeals, so it is believed that the only chance they would have for an early release from prison at this point would be if new evidence from the 30+ year-old murders were to surface.

    S1.E8 ∙ Inventing a Rockefeller

    Tue, May 2, 2023
A couple, John and Linda Sohus of San Marino, California goes missing in 1985 while working a supposedly secret mission for the government in New York. The investigation puts police on the heels of a con artist with ties to America's high society. A team of law enforcement and prosecutors across the nation must work together to pin down the elusive mastermind. Their hard work pays off. Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, the man that people knew as "Clark Rockefeller" or "Christopher Crowe" or "Christopher Chichester" had impersonated numerous people, including a talk show host and a Pentagon advisor. Gerhartsreiter ultimately claimed to be an heir to the famous Rockefeller family. Using his fake name of Clark Rockefeller, Gerhartsreiter became respected among Boston's elite society. He used his deceptive "status" to meet and marry Sandra Boss, a millionaire with a Harvard MBA. Their marriage was carried out in a Quaker ceremony that had no legal status. The pair had a daughter born in 2001 named Reigh but their marriage ended in divorce after twelve years. Afraid of losing custody of his daughter in the divorce, Gerhartsreiter abducted Reigh. The child was found unharmed. In the end, the FBI investigation exposed Gerhartsreiter's years-long con game.
