  • This show is absolute trash. I've seen JD for many years in NY theater, his work is like backwash "Chitlin' Circuit" garbage. He's so full of himself and his so called "talent" that he has to play multiple roles in his own work - and from project to project (including this one) it's ALWAYS THE SAME CHARACTERS... Just different story scenarios. That old man character he plays in the show.. Same dirty old wig he always wears on stage, I mean REALLY!? And yes there are actors who do play multiple roles in other shows/movies, but hell they do it well. He fails horribly.

I gagged because I'm in awe anyone would put this mess on TV. But then again, it was on Aspire - and I'm black/Latina so that's not a racist comment, just alluding to the fact that a lot of the stuff that comes on that channel failed getting on something more mainstream - because it sucks.Just like this show.

Pass on it - or maybe watch it if you have a few brain cells to burn.
  • I can't believe Sheryl Ralph Lee took part in this. This movie makes Tyler Perry look like an Oscar winning writer, producer and director. I can't say it enough that this movie was not just a waste of time but a waste of thought. It is almost unbelievable. Someone should be arrested and sued for this. I would rather receive the death penalty as punishment than to watch this movie. The premise was weak, some of the acting was buffoonery. I hate the fact that black Hollywood is just as discriminatory as white Hollywood. Why does the light skin black woman always have to be the love interest? I am so tired of that. I would rather die a slow painful death than to watch this movie in its entirety. 50 cent would find this more painful than the multiple times he was shot. This movie is so bad that I had to write a review to save others from torture. This movie is not even good enough for insomnia.
  • I must say after reading the unprofessional and cowardly "reviews" I was skeptical about seeing this production. So, unlike the others, I put my full name. In addition to that, I don't have any underlined motives SMH. The production that me and my church members witnessed was well written and heartfelt. It is so sad that Black folk have to be gang members, prostitutes, substance abusers or some sort of low lives for people to like it. I commend Mr. Lawrence for writing something that we as Christians and as Black people can be proud of. As for the others on this review board that hid behind fake names, please know that God sees all and what you reap you shall sow. To the cast, I say BRAVO! This is what we need on TV, period; whether it be on ASPIRE or NBC. Mr. Lawrence, keep your head up and know that you have fans that love your work. We need positive stuff that's clean and inspirational. Shows that do not degrade our Black women or men. Community Service is an "absolutely entertaining and fun night of television". To the other so called reviews, if you have a personal problem take it up with that person on a different platform. It's obvious you have personal issues with the content provider that real viewers don't care to know. I give this show, the director, and the cast a 10! Also, leave my Tyler Perry out of your stupid reviews. He is also a man of God like brother Lawrence. The DEVIL is a liar and obviously now a critic I see.
  • "JD Lawrence's Community Service" is an incredibly hilarious show that had me laughing from start to finish. JD Lawrence's portrayal of the various characters was spot on and showcased his incredible talent. As a long-time fan of Clifton Powell and Buddy Lewis, I was thrilled to see them in this production as well. After reading some suspicious reviews, like Katy Williams' comment about a "plant," I couldn't help but chuckle. It seems like JD Lawrence didn't party with the right people, but that didn't affect the quality of this amazing show. I can't wait to see more of JD Lawrence's work in the future. I've followed his career on Broadway, Bravo, Aspire, and BET, and I appreciate how his work is always clean and family-oriented. Keep up the great work, JD Lawrence!
