The Wheel of Time

This is finally becoming the series I've waited 28 years for.

I almost never write reviews, but the previous episode and this one have finally reached the point where watching the series has part of my brain daydreaming about my life when I was 12 years old and reading this series for the first time. Hearing book terms used so effortlessly by the characters in the show has made me smile ear to ear. Seeing the treatment of Egwene by her sul'dam in this episode fills me with the same animosity towards the Seanchan I had when I first read the book, and again when I re-read the series after Towers of Midnight came out. I have been forgiving of the streamlining in the series, and it has paid off.

Very respectable work

Very wonderful work, especially in the second season, after the flop of the first season. This season succeeded in endearing the audience to the work again I hope that the series continues in this rhythm. I liked this episode very much, and of course, like the previous episode, we are waiting for the upcoming episodes and for the season to close with a wonderful ending I would also like to thank the characters, although they were average in the first season, but in the second season the characters are very good and the monsters are wonderful as usual. The acting in this season is wonderful, especially the dragon, and the directing is also wonderful and the scenes are great.

Finally something that feels more like Robert Jordan's work

To this point the show has been something "inspired by" WOT instead of WOT. This was a completely different vibe. Stuff finally starts to get real. Less like Hogwarts or a trope ridden D&D cartoon with WOT familiar names and more like something RJ or even Sanderson would have had something to do with. Majority of the cast has always been strong and felt underused and confusingly directed and edited but this episode hits hard as it should. Rand is emerging as the Dragon without eclipsing the ladies and the stakes are finally being explained and demonstrated. If the show can keep this heading it can rock. Fingers crossed.

This episode made me cry, the best television I've ever seen

I just... I've barely recovered from the episode and it's ten hours later. I rewatched it earlier just because I couldn't stop thinking about it. Bring tissues or a very strong will, because this episode is absolutely brutal. It will fill you with horror, it will make you yearn, it will bring you moments of joy, it will make you feel in a way that few other TV shows can. This is quintessential Wheel of Time, but it's also just absolutely incredible, riveting television. Madeleine Madden should win an Emmy for this episode alone, and the wait for episode 7 is maddening. Edge of your seat, heart in your throat, full investment. This episode is incredible.

It Just Keeps Getting Better and Better

This episode was Egwene's to shine and she met the challenge. I love how each of the Two Rivers group has been given an episode to highlight their story and to show their acting chops. We got a hint of Mat in this episode and hope to see more of him. I definitely hope that he stays far away from the influence of the Forsaken. Will he be the one to blow the Horn of Valere? The ending of this episode was intense. VERY intense. Will Nynaeve and Elayne be able to rescue Egwene from the Seanchan? Of course! By how? I'm on pins and needles waiting for the next week's episode and wish I could binge this all at once. I've gotten used to the bing-watching format and now prefer it to waiting for a weekly drop. I love this series.

A massive improvement on season 1. Loving it!

After session 1 I gave a rather scathing review. Mainly because I started reading the books back in the 90s and this has been one of my favourite all time fantasy series. However, I think I need to take all of that back. With season 2 each episodes has quickly forced a rethink.

The heart of the story is becoming more prevalent and I feel like the world building is being reinforced with characters that match my imagined version. Rand needs to become more 'Rand' but I can see seeds of that. Liking the way the three novices are forming a bond that will be the bedrock of much to come and also looking forward to how they weave in Rand's three love interests.

I'm sold!!

Getting Better & Better

This series is becoming seriously good. With each episode, I'm becoming more and more captivated. The acting is excellent, and the plot is well interwoven with the character development. I can feel their pain, and the horror that awaits if the dark one gets his way. I can't believe I have to wait another week before the next episode. Currently, the Dark Friends have the upper hand - but surely our heroes will slowly turn this around, and I await with anticipation as to how this will unfold. No doubt there is still a lot of pain to endure, but the heroics of some of the players has brought tears to my eyes. If the standard of this episode is anything to go by, then we're surely in for a treat.

Amazing

This episode along with 4 and 5 have really upped this show, this season has been amazing.

Those who tell you this show is nothing like the books, have forgotten the core of what the first books were - we are getting so many tie-ins and nods. The feel of the book is there, the major beats, the characters, the story I am in love again.

Some aspects are different. Some I don't understand or like but they are outweighed by all the things I love. I'm super excited for what's to come.

This episode was so heartbreaking I did Egg justice, the acting was amazing- all the performances have been. I need more, more episodes per seasons and all seasons.

What a uturn in direction

After hating how much they butchered the characters and books this episode was a pleasant surprise. Really good in fact. Hated season 1 apart from a few choice scenes.

Hopefully this new direction from the last 2 episodes will continue into season 3.

They have realised the seanchan threat and scenes really well, they are fleshing out other characters and concepts finally. I would be curious to know what changed on the inside and with the production of the show. Did the writers take on board some of the criticism or did these scenes finally align with their warped politically motivated culture war.

Careful Rafe, Someone Might Accuse You of Making The Wheel of Time

By now anyone still watching is either a Rafe Judkins apologist rating it a 10 because it's "THA BESTEST WHEEL OF TIME EVA!!" (and I question their motives) or masochists like me who are just morbidly curious how many backflips Rafe will do to avoid telling Robert Jordan's story. If he had to cut so much from the books to make it work for a series, why has he added so much Liandrin and Moraine? Oh, I know! Because he wants to tell his own story using Robert's world and characters. Unfortunately he's not a great storyteller. As always, the production is above average but not good enough to justify the budget.

As expected, we get a healthy dose of Moraine, Nynaeve and Egwene right off the get-go, and more of the weird sexualization of Rand that's carried over from the previous episode. He's more like an object or a prop anyways, so may as well. However we ARE treated to almost one full minute of Mat, so Rafe's feeling benevolent.

How about some Lanfear and Leandrin? There's no time to go after The Horn of Valere, also everyone forgot about it, but did you know Liandrin has people she cares about? Gripping stuff, Rafe!

These are certainly some interesting choices for the use of Loial- consider my expectations subverted! Wait, why can't we tell Jordan's story, again? Because it's too long? It has too many characters? But we have time for this?

The Egwene part isn't too bad, and this is probably Rafe's favorite part of Jordan's story because it features a woman literally trying to break through chains of oppression. Wait, did he get rid of the chain? Ah, well, who cares, it's not major, just cutting corners and limiting himself in the future if he has to have someone make angreal, but this is Rafe Judkins we're talking about! He just gonna backflip right out of those oppressive bonds of narrative writing whenever that comes up!

Whatever this is that he's trying to do with Min is just insane. Again, it must be because it's hard to adapt a book or something(maybe it's just too hard for Rafe).

This Lan stuff is also insane. Now we're pulling in plot threads from like 7 books from now, sort of kind of. And this Rand subplot(face it, The Dragon Reborn is a subplot)... Everything is just all over the place. At this point the only way you can enjoy the Amazon story is if you've never read the books at all, because it's just confusing if you try to link the two together.

Oh we finally get clarification on the ambiguous thing Rafe did to Moraine's powers several episodes ago... which raises a whole lot of questions about everything since then. Let's see some more Moraine family drama since the books are pretty light and we need to pad the run time.

OH WOW! 1 season and 40 minutes into episode 6 and we FINALLY get Mat doing Mat stuff and kind of acting like Mat. This is actually good, which means we can't have more than 30 seconds of it and Rafe is about to do something colossally stupid. In a surprise twist, he's gone back to the plot thread he cares about, so he'll probably veer closer to the source material. Always keeping the readers guessing, just not in any way that's compelling.

I guess we're completely throwing out the Rand love- uh, square from the books. And since we're dividing up his girlfriends amongst his friends I guess that means we won't get Faile. That makes sense because the books are long and we're pressed for time, after all.

Why do they keep making Min into such a loser?

Oh hey, you know what I was hoping for? More Moraine family drama. Let's also check in on Liandrin again since we have some time to kill.

This whole Rand subplot has quickly gone from enjoyable to ridiculous. Doesn't he know men can't save women? Fortunately we have two girl-bosses waiting in the wings to swoop in when he inevitability fails. Also, just no. I know what you're doing, Rafe- don't try to merge these plot threads. I know you want to because you dropped the ball on The Great Hunt and backed yourself into a corner, but it's not gonna work. Ah whatever, I'll see your backflips in episode 8.

And then Rafe takes a left turn on the Egwene plot. It doesn't bother me in this case because it still feels like it's trying to tell Jordan's story, you know, the part that lines up with his own. I was about to say something about how it was out of character that he didn't gender-swap the sul'damane, but then I saw the fan-bait. Definitely starting some important conversations there, aren't ya Rafe? Next time pick a bigger role if you want free publicity from a Twitter fight.

Thankfully there are only two episodes left, and I'm praying the strikes force Amazon to cancel the already-approved season 3 so someone else can buy the rights and make The Wheel of Time for real. To Rafe's credit, we probably got the most glimpses of what that might look like in this episode.

Something have changed, and its good

I really didnt like the first season, and I despised the first 4 episodes of season 2.

While a show need to make changes from the books, the changes made where bad at best.

The destruction of some (most) of the characters where unforgiven, in no way could you recognize the characters from the books.

This continued hard in the first episodes of season 2, to the point I had to force myself through most of the scenes with Lan, Moraine and Rand.

The changes made where so stupid I almost stopped watching.

Then we got S2E5 and all of a sudden the tone started changing and at the end of the epsiode I found myself emotionally attatched. I really liked it.

Some of the changes now made where quite good, the acting took a big step to the better and the number of scenes where I wasn´t mad or annoyed where few .

Then we get this. S2E6, first episode ever I rank higher then 8 (most of them got a 5-6). Its amazing. Acting is really good, changes made from the book was fine, even good in some cases.

I enjoyed every single scene.

And the best part with an episode this good, is that you dont care about the small errors, its fine.

If the show continues like the last 2 episodes I´ll be so glad I sat through the trainwreck of a show that it was up untill S2E5.

Great

This episode was absolutely incredible-definitely better than the last few ones. The emotions, the storytelling, and the character bonds made it such a powerful experience. I felt so many emotions watching their relationships evolve, and it reminded me why I love this show so much. The way the characters interact with each other, the struggles they face, and the way they support one another all come together to create something truly special.

One of the things that made this episode stand out was the emotional depth. The way the characters' relationships have been developing over time really paid off here. You could feel the weight of their connections, the pain of their struggles, and the joy of their victories. There were moments that made me tear up and moments that made me cheer. It's rare to find a show that can balance action, drama, and emotional storytelling so well, but this episode absolutely nailed it.

I also think some people need to understand that this show doesn't belong to just one or two countries. It has a global audience, and not everyone has had the chance to read the books. Some fans may have never even heard of the books before watching the show, and that's perfectly fine. Everyone should be able to enjoy it in their own way without feeling like they have to do homework first. The show should be accessible to all, whether they've read the original material or not.

That's why it's important to be mindful about spoilers. For those who have read the books, it might be exciting to discuss what's coming next, but for many viewers, the show is their first introduction to this world. Spoiling major plot points can take away the impact of those moments, and it's not fair to those who are experiencing the story for the first time. Everyone should have the chance to enjoy the twists and surprises as they unfold. It's much more fun to experience those moments naturally rather than having them ruined in advance.

At the end of the day, this show is for everyone. Whether you're a longtime fan or someone who just started watching, we all share the same excitement and passion for the story. Instead of arguing about who knows more or who's the "real" fan, we should focus on enjoying the journey together. This episode was a perfect reminder of why we love this series. It delivered strong character moments, deep emotions, and some unforgettable scenes. I can't wait to see what happens next, and I hope the show continues to build on this momentum.

Prime Video keeps surprising us

Season 2 of The Wheel of Time has been missing the interactions between the core five, the Two Rivers group, and the books. The series often divides the main characters as they explore different regions, but the connection between the characters is crucial. In Episode 6, "Eyes Without Pity," Egwene struggles under the control of her Sul'dam, a Seanchan woman with the ability to control damane, women who control the one power. The Sul'dam uses their powerful tool, the a'dam, to break the will of those they have enslaved, weaponizing them for their strength. Egwene's journey is marred with brutality and emotional manipulation, as she tries to win the upper hand while Elayne and Nynaeve seek a rescue mission. The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 6 highlights the evil rooted in humanity's foul impulses, such as the Seanchan's power and Lanfear's darkness. Friendship is essential in episodes like this, as it inspires hope and a break from the bleak nature of their paths. The episode features moving parts in the shadows, with Lan confronting Rand before he leaves to find Egwene. The episode follows Mat and Rand's reunion, making it bittersweet. Josha Stradowski and Dónal Finn have a sweet chemistry as they embrace, with Mat exuding wholesome awe and meeting his childhood friend again. The episode highlights the importance of friendship in inspiring hope and a break from the bleak nature of human paths. Min reveals the truth to Mat, causing her to feel heartache if she leaves with Rand. She pleads with him to stay away, but the screen brightens with the two sharing a scene. The forces of dark, Lanfear, Ishmael, and Liandrin are the strongest elements in Season 2, but the actors playing the Two Rivers five, Stradowski, Finn, Zoë Robins, Marcus Rutherford, and Madeleine Madden, have also demonstrated depths untapped in Season 1. They are best when given scene partners to elevate their narratives, and although they may not always work together due to plot mechanics, they deserve the same level of writing. "Eyes Without Pity" is a captivating episode of The Wheel of Time Season 2, featuring characters like Lan and Moiraine, who bring the horrors of the world and small moments of levity to greater focus. Daniel Henney's performance as Lan is listless, while Moiraine is better as an accompanying character. The episode moves at a quick clip, trying to force as many storylines in as possible. The season starts off at a slower pace, easing us into the main story. With only two episodes left, it will be interesting to see if the current storylines are wrapped up with a clear conclusion. However, with so many threads being pulled at, it seems unlikely for a clean ending. The emotional storyline with Egwene embraces the darkness of the world, but the fragmented plotting loses some of its impact due to the frantic plotting. Despite this, the production and costume design, the devastation of Egwene's storyline, and the brief moments of light, such as Rand and Mat's reunion, make "Eyes Without Pity" a captivating if inconsistent installment.
