‘The Four Seasons’ Debuts Atop Netflix English TV Charts, Putting ‘You’ Season 5 In Second Place
Image
Netflix had a new TV Top 10 leader last week with the debut of The Four Seasons.

The eight-episode adaptation of Alan Alda and Carol Burnett’s 1981 romantic comedy scored 11.9M views in its first weekend of availability, after premiering on May 1. That’s a strong start for the The Four Seasons, which faced some tough competition due to the return of one of Netflix’s incredibly popular series, You.

However, it seems You has been off to a much slower start since it returned for its fifth and final season. Season 5 racked up 10.9M views from April 28 to May 4, which marked its first full week on the streamer. That’s up only slightly from its debut weekend, when it managed 10.1M views. As Deadline pointed out last week, Season 5’s premiere weekend was down compared to Season 4A and 4B. That remains true as Season 5 continues to track below the previous season.

Netflix’s New Post-Apocalyptic Show With 92% Rt Score Becomes Global Hit In Just Days Of Release
Image
The post-apocalyptic subgenre of sci-fi has gotten a big boost in recent years, notably with the Apple TV+ breakout Silo. But other streaming services have explored what a dystopian wasteland would look like, albeit with a lighter touch. That's been the case with Prime Video's Fallout, which garnered awards buzz and topped the streaming charts. Both shows are returning for additional seasons, buoyed by the audience interest they've garnered.

Netflix is well-positioned to put its stamp on the genre. The streaming platform releases hundreds of new shows each year, in several different languages. As proven by Squid Game, a title that debuts relatively quietly has a solid chance of breaking out and finding an audience. That looks to be what's happening now with a new Spanish-language drama that's winning over viewers and critics.

Netflix’s ‘The Eternaut’ Tops Global Charts, Boosts Argentina’s Economy By $34M
Image
The Eternaut has landed in Netflix’s viewing charts and also delivered a $34M financial boost to the country’s economy, figures from the streamer reveal.

The apocalyptic sci-fi series was produced in Argentina and largely in and around Buenos Aires where it is set – with international collaboration coming into play for the VFX and post-production elements.

Production of the drama – the biggest ever series out of Argentina – contributed over 41B ($34M at current exchange rates) to the country’s economy, Netflix said. It does not break out production budgets, but said its measure takes in the wider impact on Gdp. That measure factors in direct spending on the show as well as the ripple effect, which could be travel, tourism, or the boost to local stores and employment.

Telling the story of what happens after a deadly snow descends, The Eternaut has quickly topped Netflix’s global top ten for non-English-language series.

Netflix's Bilingual Action Movies Becomes Global Hit, Even Beating Out Tom Hardy's New Film
Image
Netflix continues to release original movies and TV shows at a regular cadence. The streamer recently released titles like The Electric State (2025) and The Life List (2025), with Havoc starring Tom Hardy marking one of Netflix's most recent films. Havoc reviews weren't glowing from critics or audiences, but the gritty action movie has been a big viewership hit, topping the charts upon its release on April 25.

Though Havoc and many of the streamer's other big titles are presented in English, Netflix is a platform with a global reach, meaning non-English titles continue to be an important part of the service's offerings. Recently, Netflix released non-English titles like iHostage (2025), Demon City (2025), Counterattack (2025), Bullet Train Explosion (2025), and The Eternaut (2025–). Now, another recent non-English title has broken through.

Production of ’The Eternaut,’ the New Netflix No. 1 Non-English Series, Gives Historic Multi-Million Boost to Argentina’s Economy (Exclusive)

Just confirmed as No. 1 on Netflix’s global Top 10 list of non-English language series one week after its premiere, “The Eternaut” plowed 41 billion pesos ($33 million), adjusted for inflation, into Argentina’s economy, Netflix has revealed to Variety.

The economic injection is an extraordinary indicator of the value of major international productions to local economies around the world.

Using common economic practice, the total investment, a measure of impact on Gdp, includes both direct production spending and its ripple effect throughout the supply chain. Netflix noted.

For the week April 28-Sunday May 4, “The Eternaut” amassed 10.8 million views worldwide, the production landed in the weekly Top 10 series in 87 countries, including Brazil, France, India, the U.S, Italy, Mexico, Germany and Spain, proving that Netflix hedged the right bet on Bruno Stagnaro’s adaptation of the iconic Argentine comic strip created by Héctor G. The Eternaut Ending Explained: Time Loops, Trauma, and That Mysterious Compass
The Eternaut (2025)
Few sci-fi series in recent memory have arrived with the quiet force of The Eternaut. From its haunting depiction of a silent snowfall to its layered narrative of survival, time distortion, and alien control, the show crafts a singularly bleak atmosphere that lingers long after the final credits. As the last episodes dropped, expectations ran high—not just for answers, but for emotional and thematic closure. The mystery of the whiteout, the elusive threat of the Hand, and Juan Salvo’s fractured journey through time all demanded a deeper look. What follows is an attempt to unravel the ending of The Eternaut, explained not just through plot, but through character, emotion, and idea.

The Cataclysmic Whiteout and Juan’s Time-Altering Quest

At the heart of The Eternaut lies the whiteout: a lethal snowfall that descends without warning, wiping out nearly all life in Buenos Aires. The origins of this phenomenon...

The Eternaut Cast And Character Guide
Image
As a literary medium, cartoons, comic books, and graphic novels have been used as a weapon wielded by writers and artists against oppressive state machinery since as far back as the 18th century, showcased through some of the most critical, influential political allegories like Maus, V for Vendetta, and Persepolis, to name a few. In a similar vein, renowned Argentinian journalist and writer Hector German Oesterheld penned his famous comic series, The Eternaut, to use the seemingly conventional sci-fi elements of an alien invasion theory to raise a voice against the autocratic military governance prominent across South America. The visionary nature of his work is demonstrated by the fact that The Eternaut acted as an ominous prediction of Argentina turning into an autocratic military state, and the writer perished along with a number of his family members in his efforts to counter the tyrannical forces in power. The characters in...

Netflix’s New Post-Apocalyptic Show With 92% Rt Score Gets Instant Season 2 Renewal
Image
Netflix's new post-apocalyptic TV show gets an instant season 2 renewal on the streaming platform, just days after season 1 of the series dropped. The streaming service is home to some of the best post-apocalyptic TV shows in recent years, exploring a variety of worlds that have ended in a multitude of ways. Some of these include common ideas of world-ending events, such as the zombie apocalypse of Black Summeror the viral pandemic of Sweet Tooth. However, these ideas also emphasize the diversity of post-apocalyptic TV shows on the platform.

However, in addition to the popularity of post-apocalyptic shows, Netflix is also home to a variety of sci-fi series that offer interesting ideas across their stories. ‘The Eternaut’ Season 2 Theories: Can Juan Break The Time Loop?
Image
Netflix’s The Eternaut ended on a shocking cliffhanger revealing that there’s some larger power at play that has been mind-controlling the alien beetles and the human-robots to further their sinister goals with a wave of their hand. One could even hear hypnotizing music that gave Pied Piper of Hamelin vibes in this closing shot. Well, this entire sequence suggests that there is indeed going to be a second season of The Eternaut. The makers of the Netflix show have already shown their keen interest in finishing the story. They have only adapted a part of the comic strip, which is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. However, there hasn’t been any official confirmation from the streaming platform, as they might still be waiting for the numbers to come in before they make an official announcement. The thing is, The Eternaut is quite an expensive show,...

Screen Rant’s Nick Bythrow awarded the series an impressive rating of 8/10, praising the Netflix adaptation’s modernization of Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López’s comic and creating a show that’s “perfect for sci-fi fans.

Netflix’s The Eternaut Recap And Ending Explained: What Do The Aliens Symbolize?
Image
Almost every celebrated, pivotal piece of art and literature retains its uniqueness from its timeless quality and ability to use seemingly regular motifs, symbols, and references to discuss crucial themes and ideas that have universal appeal. Renowned Argentinian comic-book writer and journalist Hector German Oesterheld had set a great example of this through his pivotal work, the comic strip series El Eternauta, aka The Eternaut, beautifully illustrated by Francisco Solano Lopez, later collected as a graphic novel. On the surface, the graphic novel unfolds as an alien invasion story riding high in the 60s silver age sci-fi fandom and space race excitement, but in reality the narrative serves as a wake-up call against military dictatorship prevalent back then in Argentina, which robbed citizens of their autonomy, and also as a deeply personal account of the author’s connection with his family explored in troubling times. Netflix’s TV series adaptation...

The Eternaut Season 1 Review: When Snow Becomes Enemy
Image
Amid a flood of post-apocalyptic dramas on streaming platforms, The Eternaut carves out its own frozen niche. Originating from a 1957 Argentine graphic novel by Héctor G. Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López, this adaptation arrives in a cultural moment defined by collective anxieties over climate, isolation, and unseen threats.

The story unfolds on an ordinary summer night in Buenos Aires, where a sudden power outage is followed by flakes of toxic snow that kill on contact. In the midst of this surreal catastrophe, Juan Salvo (Ricardo Darín) improvises protective gear and ventures into the transformed city, determined to reach his ex-wife and daughter. Along the way, he gathers a disparate band of survivors whose conflicting instincts—compassion, fear, opportunism—mirror real-world debates about community and self-preservation.

Bruno Stagnaro’s direction updates the original’s 1950s setting to the present day, allowing resonances with recent blackouts and social unrest in Argentina to amplify the narrative’s urgency.

Eternaut’s Aliens Explained: What Did The Bugs Want & Where Did They Come From?
Image
The residents of Buenos Aires experience a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon when the city, known for its temperate climate, observes the sudden onset of thick and fatal snow. The reason for such an odd and extraordinary event was explained later in The Eternaut when a character named Alfredo “Tano” Favalli deduced that the toxic snowflakes were radioactive particles falling from the sky. Ideally, a shield called the Van Allen belt, suspended by the magnetic forces of the poles, protects the Earth from solar winds (carrying charged particles from the sun). However, due to some strange phenomenon, the geomagnetic fields had either weakened or stopped working completely, because of which the charged particles emitted from the sun started bombarding the Earth’s surface and killing all the living beings as soon as they came in contact with their skin. The question here is, what or who could be powerful enough to disable Earth’s entire magnetic shield?...

Netflix’s New Post-Apocalyptic Series 'The Eternaut' Gets Season 2 Tease
Image
Ricardo Darín, the actor in Netflix's new post-apocalypse series, The Eternaut, has jumped ahead and said that Season 2 of the series has to be produced in the near future. The dystopian series was released today, meaning it's still too early to speculate how it does in terms of critical reception and the appraisal of worldwide audiences.

However, when speaking to Vogue Spain, Darín makes it seem as if a second season is inevitable. "It's not that I look for challenges, but when the opportunity arises, I instantly feel it," says the actor about making the show, which spent decades in development hell. He has been attached to the project since 2018, when Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia expressed interest in bringing the comic book to the big screen. Darin is also involved as executive producer on the show, which perhaps has given him the ability to look into the...

The Eternaut’s Title Meaning: Is Juan A Time Traveler? What Do His Visions Symbolize?
Image
Netflix’s The Eternaut centers around an alien invasion at the heart of Buenos Aires, where a toxic snowfall starts killing people as soon as the flakes come in contact with the skin. The anomalous and disturbing event had forced Juan Salvo and his group of friends to take shelter inside a house that belonged to their mate Alfredo “Tano” Favalli, an electrical engineer by profession. Juan, trapped inside the house, tried to make contact with his daughter, Clara, and his ex-wife, Elena, but to his dismay, none of the electronic devices were working, because of which Juan had no other option but to venture into the fatal snowfall in order to bring his family to safety. Now, the moment Juan stepped out of the house, he started having eerie visions, especially the sequence at the end of episode 2. These visions were nothing but snippets of the alien invasion that Juan had witnessed before.

‘The Eternaut’ Netflix Review: A Boring Alien Invasion Show With Great Visuals & Historical Allegories
Image
The sci-fi genre is the go-to for scathing commentaries on politics, culture, and society. Hirak Rajar Deshe, a movie produced by the Government of West Bengal, is ironically about fascism, book-burning, and the brainwashing of the youth of the state as much as it is about two goofy guys using music to stun their opponents and high-fiving each other to teleport. Star Wars: A New Hope is an allegory for the United States of America’s involvement in the Vietnam War, and it is also about lightsabers, the Jedi, the Sith, and cool spaceships that travel through hyperspace. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is seen as a critique of McCarthyism as well as an endorsement of anti-communist sentiments, while its creators say it’s just an alien invasion movie. Starship Troopers, till this day, is sometimes celebrated for its parody of the United States military-industrial complex and lambasted for apparently promoting genocide as well,...

‘The Eternaut’ Ending Explained & Finale Recap: Is Carla The Alien’s Robot?
Image
The Eternaut’s ending was all about Juan, Favalli, Omar, Franco, and Mosca trying to figure out how the beetles from outer space had gotten humans to betray each other and kill their own. During the penultimate episode, the snow that was killing people as soon as they came in contact with it had stopped. When Juan and all the other survivors had come out of the mall where they were taking shelter to bask in the sun after what seemed like ages, some random shooters appeared out of nowhere and began firing at them, leading to a lot of casualties. Juan, Favalli, Omar, and all those who had any kind of arms in their possession managed to kill the attackers, barring one who apparently went into whatever hole the alien beetles were living in and was accepted like he was a part of their group. Juan even recognized one...

Netflix is adding 11 movies and series this week
Image
To be completely honest and transparent, Netflix is adding 45 titles this week, not 11. But 34 of those are the typical first-of-the-month glut of titles to replace all the shows they've taken out of rotation. If you're a fan of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, better catch him soon!

As for all the titles coming to your favorite streaming service this week, there are two major titles that have fans amped up to 11 for their debuts. No, This Is Spinal Tap won't be one of the titles coming this week, but a guy can dream, right?

Some notable titles are hiding among those 34 new arrivals on the first of the month. Just a few of the gems you'll find: the Julia Roberts romance Eat Pray Love, Keanu Reeves thriller Constantine, and Steven Soderbergh's classic caper series, Oceans 11 and its sequels. For those of you who subscribe to the sparkly vampire vibe, the...
