  • I enjoyed this film. I sat down to watch it tonight after work. I like how the killer's identity wasn't easy to figure out at the beginning. However, I really like mystery and suspense films so I did figure it out about halfway through the movie and my inkling was right! I really did like this film. It's worth the watch. I learned more about Freemasons as well. And I really liked Sean Astin's performance. It was very nice seeing some fresh faces in film as well--I liked Randy and Alex's portrayal of their characters--great job! It's worth paying the money to either rent it or buy it. But I say, buy it! I hope to see more films from this crew in the near future.
  • The film's opening scene had me glued to the screen, and I was pleasantly surprised to be so enthralled.

While much of the film is a slower, steadier pace, the filmmakers don't dumb down the finer details of Freemasonry. It's one of the more informative and specific portraits of Freemasonry that I've seen. (Rather than just saying "it's a secret society" and leaving it at that.)

The film is well-shot, and I appreciate the beautiful Salt Lake City location as I don't see many films set there.

The acting gets a bit stiff at times, and the plot becomes slightly choppy near the end, but overall I feel it was worth looking at.

First of all....I really wish there was a rating of zero, or even negative numbers because if any movie deserved a rating of negative stars, its this one. I was at a Comic Con and was sold a copy of this movie by the one of the principal actors. (apologies to Alexander Hamilton, I miss ya dude...sorry I wasted ya.) It is absolutely hilarious to read some of the reviews on here, suspend disbelief and pretend that those who apparently "loved" the film or "wanted more" because the movie was too short(my personal favorite has to be that it "exceeded my expectations"...might want to set your sites a little higher next time, bud) weren't being paid off for their time to write this tripe to help with sales or con the unsuspecting into seeing it. Misery loves company. This is one of those films where you will find yourself nudging the person next to you on the couch and saying "hey, wake up...something boring is happening." Where to start....the lead actor is made out to be a poor man's Val Kilmer (in his thinner days),and is just irresistible to the opposite sex for no apparent reason, ****ATTENTION**** here's your spoiler...the main female character is motivated to just jump in the sack for a romp with Iceman because the dude has his shirt off, laying in bed after suffering an injury and hell, nothing else to do so you might as well go for it....characters are introduced and then just disappear (first female you see in the movie...why was she necessary to the story? what was her relationship to the main character, friend, friend with benefits, agent, procurer?...no worries, she's never heard from again.) Hard to imagine this film getting a passing grade as a film school project, let alone a release intended for theaters. Edward D. Wood it ain't, but that's as high as the praise goes. Low production values, dialogue to set up actions by the principals that make as much sense as it does in a porn movie to motivate the character, synthetic actors, and there you have it. If you could dry this out and grind it into a fine powder, this steaming pile could fertilize your lawn. Don't waste your money, and keep 95 minutes of your life that could be put to productive use...unless you have insomnia or are a masochist. You can't help but feel stupider for having been involved.
  • My wife and I saw the synopsis online and thought we'd give this one a chance. We should have done some more homework! Folks, this one's a real stinker!

First, the production value is third rate at best. It looks as if it was filmed with a very cheap camera on very cheap film. There are also shots of buildings (inside and out) that don't do anything to tell the story or set the mood.

Second, the acting....Oh the acting! It's clear from the start that each and every actor in this movie needs to finish acting school BEFORE trying to act in a feature film! They have years to go before they will be even adequate. I expected a bit better of a performance from Sean Astin but alas, it wasn't meant to be. He was a crying emotional mess of a hobbit and that's where it should have ended.

Third, the dialog was the worst I've seen in a long time. And I just watched Sharknado!

Please don't see this movie! You will only give encouragement to everyone involved in it!
  • I purchased this DVD mainly because I was curious, not about Freemasonry, but how it would be portrayed. To say I was disappointed puts it mildly.

This film is badly made, badly acted and the soundtrack (music) is terrible. The story line is poor and disjointed.

A good film about or involving Freemasonry is long overdue and I had hoped that this film, with all it's hype, might just be it, but I was wrong.

Personally I think they tried to capitalize on the word 'Freemasonry' and failed.

If I could get my money back I would.

This was certainly not of the "From Hell" movie spirit.

To expose the Satanic Masons as From Hell did was very good, but this movie comes nowhere close to that and on top of it, paints the Masons in a good light (some of them), whereas any secret and elite occult-based club cannot be good - despite their words to the contrary.

The production value is very low so there is no reason anyone would want to watch it anyway.

I went and viewed this movie at the preview showing. It is a good movie with some basic information about freemasonry. It is well put together and the story line does flow.

My family liked the movie. I just purchased a copy of the film on DVD. I would recommend this film to anyone who likes freemasonry, crime and suspense.

Sohrab Mirmont who directed this film did a great job. He was able to portray a murder mystery very well.

There are some great scenery shots of Salt Lake City and the Masonic Temple in Salt Lake City.

There are always some things with every movie that viewers do not like. However, this one is done very well and I recommend people to view it and buy the DVD which is out currently.

    Thank You, Arnold Jones
  • The Freemason is a film that surpassed my expectations. I had become accustomed to see Freemasonry mentioned or alluded to in dialogs and film plots before, but this time Freemasonry plays a leading role. I have the utmost respect for the timeless and mysterious fraternity of Freemasonry, which makes me critical of any time it is portrayed in films and documentary. However, I was pleasantly surprised and delighted that Freemasonry was portrayed with such eloquence and respect.

The film begins with a murder mystery, which initially caught my attention, but the subsequent twists and turns kept me guessing throughout the entire film.

I am somewhat knowledgeable about Freemasonry and I greatly appreciated that the scenes including "Masonic Ceremonies" revealed enough to peek someones interest, yet respected the privacy and discretion of the organization by not revealing too much.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable film and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery or suspense film.
  • The movie gives you a fair insight into Freemasonry. The story line is suspenseful and intriguing with twists that will keep you on your feet. Even more fun for Freemasons and their families or anyone with an interest in Freemasonry.

I love the role of the Grand Master, he was very Grand Mastery, giving credibility to the movie.

Sean Astin was fantastic, he did a great job. Alex McKenna did an excellent job at her role.

Bottom line, a great movie with an action packed ending.

    Well Done!
  • Freemasonry in the movies is a rare and treasured thing. As a member of the fraternity, I was worried about this film divulging too much. This was not the case.

It is a perfect blend of fact and fiction to bring a great story to life. This movie has suspense, mystery intrigue and even some comedy. I watched the film with my wife and she liked it as well. This movie is definitely worth seeing.

Sean Astin plays a detective trying to solve a murder. Who did it? The Freemasons? I can't tell you, but what I can say is it will keep you guessing. Get ready for a kick @$$ ending!
  • The film was well put together, very professional and theatrical quality. It surpassed what I expected it to be. I felt that the film was moving at a good fast pace and kept me intrigued constantly throughout the film.

The suspense in the movie kept me on my toes and guessing. The ending was a shocking surprise. This film is not the typical "I know who did it" right off the bat. It is almost interactive with the way it keeps you wondering.

Additionally, this film lets you peak into the world of Freemasonry. This film has touches of Freemasonry wrapped throughout it and gives quite the comprehensive look into how the they operate while still being respectful. Matter in fact there are scenes in this film that are filmed at an actual Freemason temple which adds for an authentic touch.

I watched it with my friends and overall we agree that it was an enjoyable and entertaining film!
  • Great movie. Excellent suspense and a surprise ending. Couldn't ask for better entertainment.

Thank you so much for allowing the screening in Muskegon Michigan.

Sean Astin as always performed up to expectations - and my expectations for him are high due to his fine body of work, including Rudy.

Strong performances by Randy Wayne and particularly Alex McKenna. The screen comes alive when she is in the scene.

Probably one of the best Independent movies I have seen in some time. The scenes inside the Masonic Temple and the dialog develop and are true to the philosophical underpinnings of Freemasonry. The truth as to Freemasonry is far more interesting than the fiction and it was well portrayed.
  • What a great cast of Actors from Sean Astin (Leon Weed), Randy Wayne (Cryus Rothwell), and Alex Mckenna (Rana), to Richard Dutcher (Sheldon Lombard) making a return appearance, and Joseph James playing the voice of understanding (Jericho Beck) a 32nd Degree Freemason. You are taken along on a ride with Rana the wealth daughter and heiress, and Cryus the free-lance writer she has retained to help Leon Weed solve the mystery of her father's ritualistic murder. We learn more about them as they learn more about themselves and each other. Can they trust each other let alone anyone else? And what is this strange and cryptic group of men who are intertwined with this case? I truly enjoyed the story line. Directors turn a script into a movie; and Joseph James has done this artfully and with great skill. I enjoyed seeing his growth as a director since I first became a fan watching his last film Templar Nation. Directors work with actors; makeup artists; cinematographers; writers; and film, sound, and lighting technicians and in each film I like to see progress and a transformation over the one before. It is an ever growing process to achieve a higher level of understanding of their craft. In this film, you can see that this has happened I am looking forward to the next installment. IʘI
  • So many times when you see a movie about Freemasonry or watch a "documentary" about Freemasonry on the History channel the Freemason is cast as the villain or shown as some weird occult member. It has became a running joke among Masons. It's sad that a group of men who's purpose is to make themselves and their communities better is shown as cultish type figures who only care about world domination, murder and satanic rituals Its refreshing to see the Fraternity I love shown in a positive light for once.

I feel the movie was well written and very positive. I encourage everyone to see this great film!
  • The Freemason movie is a suspense packed intriguing thriller right from the blast. Demystifying the fraternity of Freemason in such an enjoyable manner, to Masons and Non Masons alike. Telling a story of murder and Masonry in a beautiful fashion.

I must say that I am very thrilled. Kudos to Joseph James Films headed by my brother Joseph James and the excellent cast members for a great job delivery.

Its a film that would be watched over and over again in the household of many for many years to come. I would recommend a copy for every home, particularly, those that want to know more about Freemasonry.
