Edit
During shooting of the skinhead scene, a German task force was about to raid the set due to an emergency call by a pedestrian who thought the scene was real. Three police officers inspected the set first, and the task force was sent home.
Director Michael David Pate never met actress Nasia Jansen in person, who played Karina in Los Angeles. His brother Miguel Angelo Pate shot the scene in Los Angeles, directed by Michael via Skype.
The "like thumb of people" scene was shot on June 30, 2013 on Heide's marketplace, the largest in Germany. The mayor himself brought the pylons that outlined the figure, and a crane was used to film the scene. At 65 meters height, the crane was the second highest structure in Heide on this day, after the radio tower.
The Swastika teeth worn by actor Sebastian Hülk were originally designed for Joe Wright's "Hanna", in which he also plays a skinhead. They were cut from the film and allowed to be used in another production of Hülk's choice. On shooting day, July 6, 2013, Hülk surprised director Michael David Pate by wearing them, prompting Pate to also shoot a close of Hülk's mouth, the same way it was filmed in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds".
The witness interrogation was disguised as a casting for a small role in the film. The people in the scene were actually fooled into method-acting by being accused of doing exactly what the witnesses in the film supposedly did: threatening another Facebook user via mail. Their reactions were authentic enough to make the scene.
