The movie starts in 1994. Ricardo just bought his first new car. But It's actually a 1996 Honda Civic that wasn't available before the end of 1995.
When Yunnis leaves Ricardo's hotel room, the mobile phone in his pocket is seen (Scene 1:01:28). It is not a cigarette package. It is very clearly a mobile phone. Mobile phones were used in the 2000s.
The young guide calls Ricardo "Mr. Ricky", but Ricardo hasn't yet mentioned his name at this time.
