I wrote the part below after three seasons. S4 is much, much better and the pace has finally quickened. There are still parts where is drags, but in general things are finally starting to happen. Still, almost finished with the 4th season and there is still not much going on.
And then we get to S04E07 and everything starts to grind to a halt again A six minute intro that tell us nothing. There's another music video of dudes making a meth lab. They are copying some of the iconic music videos in Breaking Bad where thing actually happened.
I was just about to bump this up to 6 or 7 stars, but I think that I'll wait.
This could have been an excellent series. Instead it is like a house guest who doesn't know when it's time to go home. Three seasons in and the material could have been covered in six episodes. They are just dragging this thing out forever. Just because you have a TV series with ten episodes of 44 minutes (or whatever it is) doesn't mean you can just show someone walking for a minute. Tell a story. Tell stories. Literally, every scene is too long. How could someone write this? Stop wasting our time.
If you examine this series you would have to agree that they drag almost every scene along to absurd lengths. Do they realize that you don't actually have to show someone on camera walking across a street, for example? You can just show the person taking a step in that direction and then cut. In the next cut you can show them on the other side. Basic film making.
This is a problem with many series and feature films. They have no idea of how much time they need to tell their particular story. I can't count how many feature films I have seen recently that go well beyond the standard 90 minutes, and for no real reason. Netflix cranks out lots of bad movies that go two hours that could be trimmed to 45 minutes, easily. This show is one of the worst (best?) examples of feet dragging. It's excruciating to watch.
Just watch the first scene in the first episode of Season 4. It clocks in at a bit over eight minutes. It tells us very, very little. Eight minutes is an eternity. Most comedy series clock in at 22 minutes for an entire episode so thus scene would have been more than a third of a show. This is only one example and I could list dozens and dozens of this same wasting of time.
I wish that I knew exactly how much screen time was spent agonizing over Hector Salamanca's heart pills. Jesus, talk about extreme over-kill.

This is a perfect example of what happens when creative types indulge in the gem & brilliance hidden deep inside their often padded and overly contrived ideas. No doubt breaking bad was amazing and this wouldn't exist without it. So why the need to make it so terribly slow and obnoxiously in love with its witty dialogue and slow moving Tarantino Esque 20 minute scenes that move the plot along by ZERO. Most of the convenient circumstances in this show are less plausible than one of those silly comic book movies of grown men in spandex fighting 70's Star Trek aliens. Hey egomaniacs making this swill, get the hell on with the plot and stop pussyfooting around in love with your cinematography and witty Easter eggs all on the shoulders of a much more superior show. The performances are the only thing that keep me even trying to give it a chance week after week. It should have been made into a 2 or 3 part series and cut out the garbage. No thank you

Breaking Bad. ever the best. Saul, ever charming. Nothing is Bad (in a good sense) about this spin-off though. There is no Saul in Better Call Saul and it has run 2 full seasons (2 years and still no idea if anything has changed or what direction it is headed). So dull and dragging, the characters might as well have slept through 2 years. As static as a nail on a nuclear bunker... There is not a single interesting character other than the ones that are originally from Breaking Bad. This is just trying to run on the success of something brilliant as Breaking Bad. It is very much sad and disappointing, there is no way to sugarcoat this. The best part of BB was how pacy the story was in contradiction to the how slow each scene was. There was an intriguing story-line and characters were growing and transitioning and the unpredictability made the show such a popular favorite. BCS does not have any punch at all. Better Call Saul, better not.

Terrible boring slow and should be called "Better Call 911" because it puts you in a comma. The writers need to go back and watch "Breaking Bad" and get a clue. I find myself yelling "come on already" at the TV. How has it lasted 3 seasons???? Please fix already or cancel the dud. I cannot believe anyone likes it? Are they fake reviews?

Don't watch this show except if you have insomnia
I was a big fan of breaking bad so I try to watch this show. First season was very bad but I try to continue to listen to it since some show greatly improve after the first or second season. This is not the case here. First season was boring and pointless, second season was boring and pointless and I just try season 3 but it was sooo paintfull to watch that I ad no choice but to stop their is absolutly no hope of this show of becoming average.
Everytime you think something good is going to happen then boooooom! Nothing happen. The thing is the writer seem to have absolutly no idea where the are going with this pure joke of a show. Plus what kind of show this suppose to be? It's not funny, no action, no real drama it's just 100% boring and pointless.
The only reason this show exist is because of breaking bad and maybe to help you sleep if you have insomnia.
This show is by far the most dissapointhing show of all time.

As an enthusiastic fan of Breaking Bad, I really tried to like this show...but after four episodes, I refuse to watch anymore. It is NOTHING like Breaking Bad, except for the fact that some of the same characters make guest appearances. In my opinion, based on the whole premise of the show, it will never have any of the intensity or suspense of Breaking Bad...this show is just plain AWFUL! For some reason, however, it seems as though everyone is afraid to admit it; face it people, the emperor has no clothes! By the way, why did this show have such a high rating before it even premiered? It says something like: "voting not allowed until after the release date", yet it started out with a rating of 9.5...that seems very suspicious to me.

And the fans are completely insufferable. The loudest, most circlejerky fanbase in the world after comic book movie fans and Star Wars fans.
I just saw next week's episode and since I can't review it yet, I'll just post a review here. I really can't believe this show is still on TV. It's so slow moving and full of nothing that it's extremely difficult to watch. They have spent weeks on Nacho switching Hector's medication when we all know that neither one of them dies in this series. It's an intelligence insulting waste of time. The only good thing in the new episode, and this entire season so far, is that we finally see Jimmy's first slip and fall. As much as I want to see how this series ends, I don't think I can take 5 more years of this.

Sorry, I love Breaking Bad, but this prequel is really a bad show. I feel bad saying that because I love the actors and producers for what they made in Breaking Bad, but this is a show that is very difficult to watch.
There are so many things bad about it that it's too long to list, but some are: it's a show about nothing, it's boring, nothing happens, the scenes and writing are full of clichés from shows since the 80s, no original plotlines, procedural, weak performances and weak storylines, short ten episode seasons that could be rolled into 2 episodes since there is so little content and events.
75% of Breaking Bad episodes had more things happen inside of them than an entire season of BCS.
By the way, you know what makes a great story? Suspense, unpredictability, surprises, tension, twists, and turns. This show has NONE of them. None. Juxtapose this with a show like Ozark, which has all of those things, especially in its season 3.
And here's the best part: BCS spends 10 episodes a season delving into all of these storylines that everybody already knows how they wind up. It's like, "Gee, I wonder how this is going to end?" That element of suspense is so key and critical in storytelling. You can argue that, "well it's a prequel, so it has to end up in a certain place in BB", but that's the whole entire problem. You see, if they just made this show its own thing, rather than borrow and steal everything from Breaking Bad, then it might be at least interesting.
Instead, it dwells in all of these uninteresting sub-sub-sub plots that have little value to where the story is going (Chuck and his electrophobia? For real? Kim and her shenanigans in law, Saul and his childish pranks, low quality tough guy drug runner cartel smurfs, etc.)
Oh, and Vince Gilligan is not running this show, so all the people who have to love it because they are in love with him from BB still have no idea that all he does is throw money at it. He's not in the writer's room, except for a handful of episodes (mostly in season 1) through all five seasons because he gave the show to Peter Gould, who is in charge of all of the writing (and it shows; he actually did write some good BB episodes, though, kudos for those, but this is mediocre at best here).
I tried to watch tonight's episode and just could not get into it. The cinematography was good, and some of the desert scenes had a classic vibe to them, but that also means it felt very cliched, like stuff from 80s or 90s television (before the Golden Age we've been in).
Love the actors and characters, but the "chemistry" and cohesiveness in the story just isn't there. Again, the biggest failure of this show is that the set it up so there is no suspense on what's going to happen and where things will lead since everyone already saw Breaking Bad beforehand. In BB, they painted themselves into a corner and found clever ways to escape; in BCS, there is no way out of that corner. If it was going to wind up this direction, then they just should have done what almost all fans wanted, which was an episodic comedy kind of show where Saul represents all of his quirky, shady clients each week in court and beyond.

What is the point of episode 10 of the last season? Soul is a bastard? Thus, all previous seasons were negated and an absolute waste of time to watch. What kind of art form is it supposed to be to destroy series at the end?

As a HUGE fan of BB I was very enthusiastic to start watching this. However, my enthusiasm soon disappeared. Other reviewers have said it too - it's just boring. I have no issue with a 'slow-burner' and am not a fan of all action thrillers only, but this does not have the requisites to remain interesting and be this slow. For starters (IMHO) Bob Odenkirk just doesn't have what it takes as an actor to hold a lead role. He was GREAT in BB as Saul Goodman but that doesn't mean he has the mettle to lead a show. Of course he is not helped by a laboured script that is trying to be arty? quirky? I don't know what! Whatever it thinks it is being - as far as I am concerned it fails. One of the cleverest things with BB was that everything felt completely natural - no matter how far fetched it actually was. With this series even the simplest of setups seems fake and badly handled. Sorry but this is just not for me.

This started off well... At least the first couple of episodes and then it hit a road block. In terms of content there is nothing. It seems to be dragging along. It's the 4h season now and Saul Goodman is nowhere to be seen. This may be an isolated series but comparison to breaking bad is going to happen. By season 4 breaking bad had reached a story which was unstoppable and a tempo that was incomparable. Compared to that BCS is boring. And more boring. There. i said it. i tried my best to like it, but it sucks and it doesn't Move. Saul Goodman is getting murdered in this series-it's going to drag on for 10 seasons. Take a page out of BB and finish it in 5 seasons making pol want more. BCS is boring. Thats that

The number of marks higher than four this series has been given is amazing. This is easily one of the slowest, most boring, series ever written and produced. The overload of everyday minutiae is incredibly painful to watch. There must be much better ways to spend one's life than watching actors and actresses carrying tables , walking, brushing their teeth, making coffee, or doing other mundane, trivial activities that add nothing to the story. If the goal of this production was to create a marathon series, then that was probably achieved, but any expectations of providing an entertaining program that captures and holds an audience's attention was lost in the process.

Don't get me wrong Better Call Saul is not a one-starer. I am only giving this review to balance out the ratings. The series has good points like excellent acting, great character development, strange warmheartedness and other things that make this show watchable.
And it started of really well too BUT it fell apart after second season. It has become unwatchably slow! The story seems to be at a standstill and there is too much repetition. Better Call Saul isn't producing anything new for the viewer. It is elongated and boring with nothing happens whatsoever, episode after episode.

Hello,
How are you?
Well... I suffered through the 1st season 'cause Breaking Bad was an original, compelling, dramatically ironic story but Better Call Saul is just like that other B.S. show with Aaron Paul playing upon the old fan base. Sucks worse than bad.
Try Plan 9 From outer Space, you'll get better plot and acting.
Thanks, dusty-33338

Another show glorifying scumbags, corruption, dishonesty, and evil. A vile character is the focus, and how he hurts others, robs, cheats, and steals. This is the garbage and immorality that Hollywood promotes, this is what our kids are growing up watching. Jimmy the lowlife sleazebag epitomizes and embraces evil. Better Call Scum should be the name of this show.
Let's start with a super zoom of someone's foot but you don't know it's a foot until the camera-man zooms out and the person walks away.
Use of that technique was novel in the BB days but now feels dated. The only part that was interesting was watching the cartel who were absent in the second half of the season. The main characters, Kim / Saul, looked juvenile tormenting Hamlin. That was not at all interesting because Hamlin was such an easy mark.
