On October 9th, 2020, Sam Dubal set out on an overnight solo hike in Mount Rainier National Park. As an experienced and prepared hiker, he planned to do a quick one day hike of the Mother Mountain Loop, expecting to finish on October 10th. When he hadn't returned by October 12th, he was reported missing and a large search and rescue mission kicked off. January 31, 1971, 32 year Carol Turner drove to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, in Arizona, for a short vacation while she had some time off from teaching. Carol would spend the next couple of days hiking in the monument and going on nature walks with the rangers. On February 3rd, Carol went on a hike up to Bull Pasture and was never seen again. July 19th, 1991, 13 year old Jared Negrete was on an overnight backpacking trip with the Boy Scouts in the San Bernardino National Forest in Southern California. On a hike to the summit of Mt. San Gorgonio, Jared fell behind the group and was asked to stay behind and wait. The group planned to get Jared on the way down but Jared was gone. The only item recovered during the search was a disposable camera with an eerie partial selfie of Jared's face at night.

September 24th 2010, 39 year old Todd Hofflander joined some friends on a multi day hunting trip in the remote Idaho wilderness area called Hells Canyon. As an experienced hiker, Todd was well equipped to spend multiple days in the back-country and had been on trips like this before. On the 4th day of the trip, Todd experienced knee pain and decided to split from the group. This would be the last time anyone would see Todd until his remains were discovered a decade later. In the summer of 1988, Keith Reinhard, a Chicago sports reporter and an aspiring novelist moved to Silver Plume Colorado, a small mountain town in the Colorado Rockies. He opened a small antique store and hoped the slower pace of life would help with his novel. Soon after moving in, Keith learned of the strange disappearance of Tom Young, who had previously leased Keith's shop and went missing almost exactly a year earlier. Keith took interest in the disappearance of Tom and decided his book would be based on him. On August 7th, 1988, Keith set out to summit nearby Pendleton Mountain to help with writers block. Keith didn't return from his hike and was never seen again. Join us this week as we investigate the disappearance of Keith Reinhard.

On April 11, 2019, 68 year old Kat Hammontre went on a short day hike with family, friends, and her German Shepherd Tootsie in Diablo Canyon, located in San Pedro Martir National Park. After less than a mile in, Kat sits down due to issues with her foot, while the rest of the group continued on. When the hiking party returned, less than 90 minutes later, Kat and her dog were gone. A Note about episode 50- For our regular listeners, this is a departure from the normal cases we cover. A lawyer with sources close to the subject of this case contacted us about the death of a woman named Gwen Hasselquist. While her obituary lists the cause of death as Covid-19, his sources are convinced foul play is involved. The following episode is our fact finding, in person interview, with the lawyer who has taken a personal interest in investigating this case. Since recording this interview, we have filed several FOIA requests with local law enforcement, seeking out any additional information on what might have happened to Gwen. If or when we discover significant additional information about Gwen, we will release a follow up episode to discuss the findings. There are also some quotes containing profanity so parental discretion is advised. March 2020, Gig Harbor Washington, Gwen Hasselquist is diagnosed with COVID 19, and goes missing. Shortly after an obituary is posted in the local paper indicating that she passed away from the illness. However, there are conflicting statements about the actual cause of her death. June 17th, 2016 - Floyd, his best friend and his daughter set out on a 9 day back country hike on the Northern edge of the Grand Canyon. Late that day, the group briefly split up for no more than 30 minutes, to navigate around a small hill, before reaching the trail head to start their hike. In Episode 50, we learned about a suspicious death, a husband who remarried within months, who then fled the country. With very little coverage of the death, and even less information about the events leading up to her death, we submitted FOIA requests to fill in the gaps. Recently, one of our FOIA requests was completed and a 21-page police report on Gwen's death was sent to us. Join us this week as we continue to investigate the death of Gwen Hasselquist.
