Between the obnoxious, misplaced music, the drunk-like overacting, and the overbearing "bro" dialogue, sitting through this movie was an exercise in patience.
  • Fantastic visuals and a really glimpse of a realistic portrayal of New York City. The film presents a slice of life of modern thirtysomethings struggling to find themselves admits a backdrop of relationship and professional problems. Ultimately, they find that they have strength in the loyalty between themselves. A solid effort from first time director Dan Simon (who also stars in the film). If you are a fan of micro-budget anti-wave films, then this film's for you. It sheds the typical Hollywood schlock and portrays life as it actually exists.
  • I like this movie. A lot. The movie has great casting, strong acting, and a solid look ... and I liked the music, especially the use of piano. Frankly, I have no idea why this indie film is getting such negative ratings. Although it's somewhat talky at times, I found Lonely Boys to be a gritty New York kinda story, with an ending that's ultimately a love story ... but not the way you expect. Definitely worth watching!
  • A wonderful indie film - amazing on-location cinematography; excellent acting and outstanding vernacular dialogue, always real, never stilted or pedantic. The acting of the principal leads (Gregory Lay and Dan Simon) is outstanding. I felt as if I were watching a true "slice of life" story of two BFFs on a particular weekend where both are on "tilt" due to recent break-ups. This is coupled with professional challenges that make their weekend go awry, then giving way to a much-needed catharsis and greater self-awareness. Excellent score also, comprised mostly of piano music that complements the scenes very well.
  • So, I wasn't expecting to like this film so much but I did. The performances were captivating especially the role of Haley played by Kiva Dawson. Seriously, why isn't she a superstar? This film was probably made for little money so I would bet that with a bigger budget, they'd come up with some even better projects. I am looking forward to following the careers of the people involved in this.

The great parts about this film are too many to name, however it is a heartfelt romantic comedy that explores love and contemplation in the Big Apple. I highly recommend you give this little gem a shot!

Besides the great acting, the directing is superb. Dan Simon's debut film speaks to his New York sensibilities and desire to invoke a sense of longing for love in a city that seems all too devoid of it at times.

Shot with great care, the cinematography is clear and the sound concise. It is rare to see a film with such a low budget made to this high a quality.

Dan Simon is a filmmaker the world needs.
