One of the best British dark comedy shorts I've seen to this day!
The name of this excellent short piece would never give away the kind of tale that awaits the viewer and just how funny and thoroughly entertaining it is from minute one. A young guy (Shaun Morton, who is also the film's scriptwriter) on his first date with a beautiful girl (Julie Addy) visits the gents' toilet, only to find there a bathroom attendant (Richard Warrick) trying far too hard to please. Impressed by this strange man's dedication to his job and having found no change in his wallet, he leaves him a £5 note. The overexcited bathroom attendant then decides to make his new favorite client's every bathroom experience beyond magical, so the next time our protagonist finds himself in the WC, he is met with a first-class treatment. But will our lead character be willing to leave a large tip every time he uses the toilet? And if not, then how will the super-caring bathroom attendant feel about that?
A perfect mixture of a skilfully written comedic script, fantastic cinematography and a wonderfully talented cast, Broken Seal tells us the story of a first date gone awry all thanks to a slightly overbearing bathroom attendant (he'll do anything for you just as long as you tip him!). This is the kind of British comedy we all want to see on TV – genuinely funny, short enough so as not to include unnecessary shots or scenes yet long enough to tell the story in as detailed and impressive a way as possible. And just when you think the plot has nothing more to impress you with, you'll find an even more exciting turn ready to leave you laughing and wondering, "What the hell is going to happen next?!" It just keeps getting better and better!
All in all, Broken Seal is the sort of comedy short that you have to see for yourself, and one that is no doubt striking and delightful – you will immediately feel compelled to watch it again, then recommend it to your friends and watch it with them, and then check out all of 205 Film's other works. A fantastic, slightly dark comedy with just the right amount of twists and turns and an unquestionably brilliant set of actors, this short is bound to make your day that little bit brighter and leave you with a big smile on your face!
