The Angry Birds franchise started as a game series, and its popularity led to two films, a television series, merchandize, themed parks, and more. The first movie, The Angry Birds Movie, came out in 2016, followed by a sequel in 2019.
In 2024, it was announced that a third film was in development. Now, Paramount Pictures officially confirmed the movie is happening, and set a worldwide release date for The Angry Birds Movie 3 on January 29, 2027. This will be the longest break in between installments, with almost a decade after the sequel.
The original film starred Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Sean Penn, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Bill Hader, and Peter Dinklage. It followed Sudeikis' Red, an outcast on an island of anthropomorphic flightless birds who thinks the leader of a crew of pigs is plotting an evil plan. Netflix head Ted Sarandos is once again sticking to his guns when it comes to the streamer’s comedy specials. During a conversation Friday at a Paley Media Council event in New York that TheWrap attended, the CEO defended giving comedy specials to both Dave Chappelle and Tony Hinchcliffe.
After the release of Chappelle’s 2021 special “The Closer,” the comedian came under fire for his jokes about the transgender community. Sarandos admitted that whether or not to stick by an artist are “never easy calls” and said that the decision to back Chappelle came down to “protecting free speech and free expression.”
“I knew that the art form itself always needed a safe place to try things out. Comedians define the culture in a bunch of ways, and they do that by figuring out where the lines are and the joke is,” the Netflix head explained during Friday’s “Beyond...

Bachelor parties are a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, a carefree night out with friends is a great way to celebrate an oncoming and exciting chapter of your life. How do you keep a clear head while trying to get blazed and blitzed? Kevin Hart is about to find out after reteaming with Tim Story for 72 Hours, an upcoming film that finds Hart’s character summoning his strength for bachelor party shenanigans.

For the second year in a row, comedian and actress Nikki Glaser will host the Golden Globes, the first major awards show of the season.
Earlier this year, Glaser became the first woman to host the Golden Globes solo, months after grabbing headlines for her successful performance during Netflix’s live broadcast of “The Roast of Tom Brady.”
“Hosting the Golden Globes this year was without a doubt the most fun I have ever had in my career,” said Glaser. “I can’t wait to do it again, and this time in front of the team from ‘The White Lotus’ who will finally recognize my talent and cast me in season four as a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past.”

It’s official: Nikki Glaser will be back to host the Golden Globes next year.
The comedian will front the 83rd iteration of the TV and film awards, which will take place in January 2026 and air on CBS.
Glaser was the first woman to ever host the Globes solo and went down a treat with viewers. She scored the gig after her star turn on Netflix’s The Roast of Tom Brady, telling Deadline before the awards ceremony that the roast slot got her on “some important people’s radar”.
During January’s ceremony, she walked the line between gentle roast and tribute.
“Some of you may know me as a stand up comedian and from my appearances on roasts but I am not here to roast you tonight. I want you to know that. And how could I really? You’re all so famous, so talented, so powerful, you could really do anything.

Netflix may be open to scoring more NFL games. The company’s CFO Spencer Neumann addressed the possibility of expanding its partnership with the league during Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media and Telecom Conference.
On Christmas Day of 2024, Netflix aired two NFL games, marking one of the first times the streamer had aired a major sporting event. As part of its current deal, the streamer is set to air at least one holiday game in both 2025 and 2026. Netflix has long maintained that they’re happy with their current strategy around live events, a point that Neumann emphasized on Wednesday. But during a recent interview with “The Town,” Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said she would be interested in Netflix expanding its NFL offerings if, in five years, the league opted out of its current deal. Specifically, Bajaria said she would be interested in securing the rights to the Sunday afternoon football games.

In a surprising win that resets the Oscar race, Anora director Sean Baker took home the Feature Film Director prize at Directors Guild of America Awards Saturday, instantly becoming the frontrunner for the Best Director trophy at the Academy Awards.
Baker, a first-time DGA nominee, toppled a strong field that included fellow Oscar nominees Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez), and James Mangold (A Complete Unknown), along with Conclave director Edward Berger, who failed to land an Oscar bid. The DGA victory came on the same night Baker’s film — which personally earned him four Academy Award bids — unexpectedly won the top prize at another major precursor, the Producers Guild of America Awards, and one night after the film scored at the Critics Choice Awards.
Corbet had still been considered the prohibitive favorite for both the DGA honor and directing Oscar going into Saturday.

Sean Baker won the top film prize for “Anora” at the Directors Guild Awards on Saturday, putting himself in the driver’s seat for the Best Director Oscar. Last year’s winner, “Oppenheimer” director Christopher Nolan presented Baker with the DGA Award.
Baker and “Anora” are on a huge high following the film’s surprise Best Picture win at the Critics Choice Awards on Friday. And about an hour after winning the DGA Award on Saturday, Baker collected the Producers Guild Awards’ top feature film prize in a stunning turn of events. The DGA, PGA and Critics Choice accolades are the first major honors the film has won this awards season, catapulting it into the front of the Oscar conversation.
“Oh my god, incredibly unexpected,” Baker said as he accepted the DGA honor alongside his directorial team. After acknowledging Nolan and “maestro” Ang Lee, he admitted his “imposter syndrome is skyrocketing right now.

This year’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony was full of unexpected brilliant moments after some troublesome years. Glaser began the show by telling the audience it was “Ozempic’s biggest night” and then made sure to tell everyone she wouldn’t be in full roast mode, but what she proceeded to do was a near-perfect balance of jokes and digs. Though more restrained than the previous hosts like Ricky Gervais, Glaser made sure that nobody was really safe from humor.

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards had several major surprises and snubs. Held at the historic Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the 2025 Golden Globes were hosted by comedian and television host Nikki Glaser. Glaser was recently a standout guest on Netflix's The Roast of Tom Brady. Early presenters at the Globes included Dwayne Johnson, Demi Moore, Ke Huy Quan, Kathy Bates, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Miles Teller. Among the biggest Golden Globe predicted movie winners are The Brutalist, Anora, Emila Perez, and Conclave.
The night opened with predictable winners in the Female Supporting Actor and Female Actor in a Television Series, which went to Zoe Saldaña and Jean Smart, respectively. Hiroyuki Sanada of Shōgun brought home the Best Actor in a Television Drama award after winning the Emmy in the same category last year. Jeremy Allen White won his third Best Actor Golden Globe for his celebrated performance in The Bear.

Nikki Glaser came out swinging at the 2025 Golden Globes, opening her hosting debut with a monologue that poked fun at Diddy, “Dune: Part Two” and Timothée Chalamet in front of Hollywood’s A-list stars.
She began her monologue by calling the awards ceremony “Ozempic’s biggest night,” and told viewers on Paramount+, “You have six days left to cancel your free trial.”
“I’ve got to say, this feels like I finally made it. You know, I’m in a room full of producers at the Beverly Hilton hotel, and this time all of my clothes are on,” Glaser said to big laughs. “It was worth it.”
Running through some of the top nominees, Glaser said, “Tonight, we celebrate the best of film and hold space for television,” nodding to the viral “Wicked” press tour meme. “‘Wicked,’ ‘Queer,’ ‘Nightbitch’… these are not just words Ben Affleck yells after he orgasms,...

As Nikki Glaser prepares to host the 82nd Golden Globes, she’s staying away from politics and the latest Hollywood drama.
The comedian, whose special Someday You’ll Die is nominated for Best Stand-Up Comedy Performance, recently explained that she’s “not gonna go so hard that anyone’s gonna be offended” during her hosting gig on Sunday’s awards show, airing live at 8pm Et on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
“I’ve made a point not to, and that’s not to disappoint anyone who’s hoping I’m going to pull a Ricky Gervais,” Glaser told Yahoo Entertainment. “I’m not Ricky Gervais. This isn’t my last Golden Globes, this is my first one. He really went hard on his last one. He was ready to burn some bridges [because] it didn’t matter anymore.”

Nikki Glaser is ready to take on the biggest night of her career.
After a breakout 2024 — one that saw her earning awards attention for her HBO comedy special “Someday You’ll Die” and dominating the discourse for her excoriating performance on Netflix’s “The Roast of Tom Brady” — the stand-up has been tapped to host the 2025 Golden Globes. Glaser had been in the comedy trenches before May’s Brady roast, in which she took the football legend to task for his failed relationships and for delaying his retirement, all with a smirkingly abashed delivery.
Now, she’s emceeing in awards season’s most raucous room. The potential upside is huge, but the risks are real: Ricky Gervais and then the hosting pair of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler became iconically associated with the Globes over multiple appearances, while last year, Jo Koy tanked with a crude joke about Barbie’s breasts.

As the industry was rocked last year by layoffs, budget cuts, runaway production, a decline in volume and an overall malaise, one mantra kept popping up: “Survive ‘til ’25!” It was a bit of a hopeful rhyme, as Hollywood looked for some light at the end of this turbulent tunnel.
Well, 2025 is here. And there indeed are some hopeful signs in the air: The broadcast networks are coming off a promising fall, boasting several new breakout performers. A bevy of hit shows are finally returning to our screens with new seasons after a long delay — more on that in a moment. The post-Hollywood strikes shakeout seems to be stabilizing. And there’s a sense that maybe we’ve seen the worst of things — after all, how much more can the industry cut without hitting bone?
Maybe don’t answer that. Because let’s face it, “Survive ‘til ‘25” was always a bit too optimistic.

America loves a parade. America also loves to learn from Oprah, to rock with Ryan Seacrest on New Year’s Eve and to belt out the hits with Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden.
The list of the year’s top 25 most-watched entertainment specials is topped by NBC’s Turkey Day telecast of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which hauled in 23.4 million viewers in Nielsen’s Live-plus-7 measure covering live viewing plus seven days of delayed viewing. Two Oprah Winfrey-hosted specials made the list, one for ABC (coming in at No. 19) and one for CBS (No. 24).
The Rose Parade, the annual New Year’s Day trek of floral floats through Pasadena, nabbed two slots on the list (No. 14 and No. 17). NBC’s national coverage grabbed 5.4 million viewers while ABC’s coverage of the parade leading in to the college football game at the Rose Bowl garnered 5.1 million.

Nikki Glaser is turned on. That the comedian is, at full volume, discussing her level of arousal in a restaurant — she is “damp downstairs,” to be precise — is probably not surprising to anyone who has seen her four standup specials. Nikki Glaser called out beauty standards and joked about having to wake up at the crack of dawn to open The Hollywood Reporter’s annual Women in Entertainment gala, presented by Lifetime, on Wednesday at The Beverly Hills Hotel.
“When I was told I had been chosen as one of the Power 100 Women in Hollywood I was so incredibly honored,” the comedian said. “And then I said, ‘Which number am I?’ And they said it doesn’t work that way; you’re all equal. And I said, ‘Ok if that’s the case, then can I sit at Nicole Kidman’s table?’ and that’s when the correspondence ended.” (Kidman is also featured on this week’s THR cover.)

Tony Hinchcliffe has one unexpected ally: Jon Stewart.
The host of “The Daily Show” used his opening monologue to defend the controversial roast comedian, and instead put the blame for his viral remarks on the Trump campaign for inviting him in the first place.
Hinchcliffe was one of the speakers at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday. During his set, he likened Puerto Rico to a “floating island of garbage.” His remarks were instantly met with a backlash from both Republicans and Democrats, including condemntations from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin.
“Now obviously in retrospect, having a roast comedian come to a political rally a week before election day and roasting a key voting demographic, probably not the best decision by the campaign politically,” Stewart said on Monday night. “But to be fair, the guy is really just doing what he does.”

Danny Amendola had a magical night on Dancing with the Stars and didn’t hesitate to call out his former teammate, Tom Brady.
The former NFL star experienced movie magic as he and his dance partner recreated an iconic opening scene from this year’s box office smash Deadpool and Wolverine.
Danny donned a red and black costume for their dance routine to match Marvel’s Deadpool, and Witney Carson wore an outfit similar to Wolverine’s yellow and black X-Men costume.
The backdrop consisted of a screen with fake snowflakes falling to help recreate the wintry opening scene from Disney and Marvel’s film.
Throughout their performance, Danny and Witney traded fake kicks or jabs as if fighting each other.
The former wide receiver also delivered some “breaking-the-fourth-wall” moments by pretending to kiss the camera or look out to the viewers at home.

YouTube has become Netflix‘s biggest rival in the world of streaming. The latter company’s Co-CEO thinks that his platform’s superlative stories are still a difference maker, but is his view outdated?
Ted Sarandos was asked about YouTube during Netflix’s Q3 2024 earnings call. Those two platforms account for half of all streaming traffic, but Sarandos still believes his SVOD service has a competitive edge over YouTube.
“Netflix is the best place for premium stories because we’re the home to the best storytellers,” Sarandos said. “When I look at YouTube specifically, I’d say look, we compete directly with YouTube for people’s time, for the time they spend on that TV screen. But we have very different strengths.”
That answer sounds similar to the one Sarandos’ fellow Co-CEO, Greg Peters, gave in response to a question about YouTube during the Q2 2024 Netflix earnings call. At the time,...

Netflix released its semi-annual data dump on Thursday, unveiling viewership for the streamer’s biggest hits — and not so big releases — from January through June of 2024.
While the most-watched seasons of TV during the six-month interval included “Fool Me Once,” “Bridgerton” Season 3, “Baby Reindeer” and “The Gentlemen,” a group of winners have arisen from the data dump, including children’s TV as a whole — including “Peppa Pig” — “Young Sheldon” and buzzy crime docs like “Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal.”
As the streamer continues to bolster its live event programming, the success of “The Roast of Tom Brady” followed in the footsteps of “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage” as it found an eager audience, whereas the first-ever livestream of the SAG-AFTRA Awards earlier this year didn’t do much for Netflix, viewership-wise.
For the full breakdown of the biggest TV-centric revelations from Netflix’s data dump for the first half of 2024, see below.

Netflix’s latest data dump is here and, as trailed by Ted Sarandos earlier this week, the Brits have dominated the TV series listings.
Harlan Coben adaptation Fool Me Once led the pack in the first half of 2024 with more than 100 million views globally, just ahead of the third season of Bridgerton on 91.9 million. Bridgerton had an epic six months, with its first and second season also making the top 20 with 38.4 million and 34.2 million views globally. Nikki Glaser‘s year just keeps getting better: The standout from Netflix’s “The Roast of Tom Brady,” nominated for two Emmys for her HBO special, will officially be hosting the 2025 Golden Globes.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes. It’s one of my favorite nights of television and now I get a front-row seat,” said Glaser in a statement. “The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film, but also for comedy. It’s one of the few times that show business not only allows, but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so).. It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars (who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes).”

Watch out, Golden Globe nominees: Nikki Glaser is hosting next year.
The popular comedian and scathing celebrity roaster will host the 82nd annual Golden Globes in January.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes,” Glaser wrote in a statement. “It’s one of my favorite nights of television and now I get a front row seat (actually, I think I have to host from the stage). Comedian Jeff Ross thinks roasting can help heal our world, and Netflix’s “The Roast of Tom Brady” was a huge step in the right direction.
“I live in Roast world,” Ross, an executive producer on the special, says. “But I think the rest of the world is getting back in touch with their sense of humor and leaving politics out of it — which was a mission of mine, to make it as inclusive and fun so people could let loose. I think that helped. It was a break for the fans.”
The Brady special was the biggest project Ross, who has been doing roasts since 1995 at the Friars Club and eventually brought them to television as specials on Comedy Central, has ever helped to assemble.
He had been discussing the idea with the champion quarterback, who is also an executive producer on the project, for three years, and the...

It’s an open secret that hosting an awards show is one of the most difficult jobs in Hollywood. If you do a poor job you’re criticized for weeks, but if you do it well, it’s barely a blip on the radar. Even though she is fully aware of the risks of the gig, hosting the Emmys or the Oscars is a job comedian and Emmy nominee Nikki Glaser wants.
“I think I would do a really good job, so I can’t wait to host something. I think it’s imminent,” Glaser told TheWrap.
The comedian, who is currently nominated for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) for her HBO standup special “Someday You’ll Die,” is no stranger to jobs that terrify other people. She pointed to her recent appearance on “The Roast of Tom Brady” as a recent example. Though she likened the Netflix special to her own personal Olympics,...

Netflix is continuing its push into live programming with a new weekly series, “Live From the Other Side” hosted by medium Tyler Henry, premiering Sept. 17.
The eight live shows, which will stream every Tuesday at 3 p.m. Pt on the platform for 45 minutes apiece, follow Henry as he gives celebrity guests hope, healing and long sought-after answers through emotional readings that showcase his gifts as a medium, clairvoyant and medical intuitive.
“Not even I could’ve predicted that I’d be doing a Live show on Netflix! I am super humbled and grateful for the opportunity. I know the skepticism that comes with mediums — and this project will let me lean into that in an honest and unedited way, demonstrating high-stakes readings in real time,” Henry said in a Tuesday statement. “My goal is for this live format to open some minds and change some lives. This project is my biggest,...

When Nikki Glaser took to the stage to join in The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady, she made headlines with her close-to-the-bone whip-smart jokes. It’s a Tuesday morning in late July, and at a gigantic warehouse-turned-production facility in L.A.’s Canoga Park, Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson are in one studio riffing on the Summer Olympics. On the other side of the building, comedian Earthquake is recording a podcast. Meanwhile, between that building, another nearby and a third in West Hollywood, teams of staffers are running around, working on one of the two dozen other projects across TV, film, audio, branded entertainment and experiential events that Hart’s entertainment company, Hartbeat, has in the pipeline.
You know Kevin Hart, the comedian and star of films like “Ride Along,” “Central Intelligence” and the just released “Borderlands.” But he’d really like you to think of him as Kevin Hart, production maven. This year alone, he’s produced Netflix’s “The Roast of Tom Brady,” a revival of “Comic View” with BET and released...
