Originally this short was to be shown in theaters with Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014) and was to be served as a test for a possible feature film with the two characters. However it ended up being canceled for unknown reasons and was put on hold until it was assigned to be a direct to video short. The short film Almost Home (2014) was shown with the Mr. Peabody and Sherman movie instead. But plans for a feature film was scrapped when the Mr. Peabody and Sherman movie failed at the box office.

The name of the robot moose the mayor called is Miss Moosylvania which is the name of the island in the adventures Moosylvania and Moosylvania Saved from The Bullwinkle Show (1959).
This whole plot is reused from a segment in The Bullwinkle Show (1959) adventure the banana formula where a robot moose is shown in one segment.
In the beginning of the short, Nell Fenwick from the Dudley Do-Right segments can briefly be seen on one of Fearless Leader's monitors, being tied to railroad tracks by an off-screen Snidely Whiplash in homage to the original Dudley Do-Right opening.
