It's a day like any other in January 1965 in Odendaalsrus. Two cousins, Petro and Issie, go to the municipal swimming pool but then vanish without a trace.
The girls' bodies are found. Issie's brother, André, feels responsible because he didn't look after them. The local police station is ill-equipped to investigate the case.
Captain At van Wyk leads the investigation. The girls are buried, and André swears an oath to catch the guilty party. A family member is taken in for questioning.
No evidence links the family member to the murders. André joins the police. In 1984, At reopens the Niggies case after new information comes to light. André gets involved in the investigation.
A suspect is investigated. André's obsession with the case causes conflict with his parents and family. Gustaff's relationship with his family reaches a low point.
The investigation is caught in a race against time, as the suspect is soon to be released on parole. Criminals target André's family. The suspect's parents are questioned.
An informant close to the case is murdered. André's family remains in danger, and André himself goes undercover as a prisoner in jail to extract a confession from a suspect.
The inmates grow suspicious of André's presence, and his life is in danger. André gains the suspect's trust, who admits to being involved in the rape and murders of the cousins.
Finally, the mystery of what happened to the cousins is solved. The suspect is arrested and found guilty. André is reunited with his family and relatives.
