With a trial kicking off next week, Sean Combs, who once bragged about running the city, is now running out of defenses.

Just mention spin-offs and now you have the attention of the entire Attack on Titan fandom. Every character in the series is extremely well-written, which makes them a subject of indefinite curiosity. Spin-offs are the perfect way to know more about the characters and the lore, without taking a detour from the canon narrative.
With that, it’s safe to say that spin-offs are fascinating, but that does not include Bad Boy! If you don’t know already, Bad Boy is a bonus chapter of Attack on Titan that delves into Levi’s backstory. It’s a short chapter and evokes many emotions, and some confusion as well.

During an interview, the mangaka revealed that Levi wasn’t even part of his initial plan for the bonus chapter. However, some creative challenges pushed him to explore a different idea that always intrigued him.

Back in January of 2022, we heard that Insidious franchise creator James Wan was producing a “Back to the Future meets Aliens” project that was set to be written and directed by Jeremy Slater, creator of the The Exorcist television series and head writer on the Marvel / Disney+ show Moon Knight. As the Wan / Blumhouse collaboration Insidious: The Red Door, the fifth film in that series, made its way out into the world last year, it was revealed that Slater’s movie was a spin-off called Thread: An Insidious Tale, which had Mandy Moore (This Is Us) and Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals) on board to star in it. That movie never seemed to go into production, but last year Sony announced an August 29, 2025 release date for the next Insidious movie – not Thread, but Insidious 6. That project hasn’t gone into production yet, either. So it wasn’t a surprise to hear that...

Forty-seven tracks into Rush 50 — a new career-spanning anthology presenting 50 songs across nearly five hours — a cool sonic Easter egg arrives. Near the beginning of “Headlong Flight,” a track from Rush’s final studio album, 2012’s Clockwork Angels, Alex Lifeson plays a slashing solo-guitar break, which Geddy Lee and Neil Peart answer with quick unison bass-and-drum punches. The moment is a deliberate, near-exact replica of a passage from “Bastille Day,” originally released 37 years prior and included as track 10 on the comp. It’s both a fun throwback, and — heard here in...

Sean “Diddy” Combs appeared in court Friday to plead not guilty to two new superseding indictments that were unveiled against him in January and earlier this month.
The 55-year-old’s normally dark hair was fully grey alongside a greying cropped beard he had grown since his arrest last September. As he entered the Manhattan federal courtroom, Combs smiled at his son Christian and daughter Chance, later giving a small wave to his mother Janice, who turned up halfway through the hour-long hearing.
Combs spoke confidently as he addressed U.S.

Behind every great man, there’s a woman rolling her sleeves up. Well, we’d argue that behind every powerful story, there’s someone whose quiet strength fuels it all. Take Voletta Wallace, for instance. Most people know her as the mother of Biggie Smalls, but there’s so much more to her.
Alas, the world lost a pillar of strength on February 21, 2025, with the passing of Voletta Wallace. At 72, her passing signaled the close of an era for those who admired the quiet yet indomitable woman, who fought tirelessly to preserve her son’s memory long after his untimely death. Wallace was the bedrock of his legacy, a woman who carved a path through grief, turmoil, and heartache to honor her son’s brilliance.

The sustained snowfall in Berlin reflected a cool but steady first half of EFM 2025, defined largely by a shortfall in must-have big packages.
Amid reduced buyer presence, particularly from Asia, and with many buyers leaving on Sunday, the EFM has mostly been used by sellers to round off sales on pre-existing slates.
One big talking point is whether the new Berlinale and EFM leadership can bring back bigger sales titles, and craft a heavyweight festival selection extending into the second week to lure back attendees who fly to London for the Baftas mid-festival.

Will Gluck, the director of the Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell comedy Anyone But You, is spicing up cinemas with his next project, One Night Only. In addition to directing One Night Only, Gluck will produce through his Olive Bridge Entertainment studio alongside Olive Bridge vice president Jacqueline Monetta.

Greenland director Ric Roman Waugh is now directing a new, untitled Jason Statham action thriller, with filming underway in the UK and Ireland.
Last May, we heard about one of a several forthcoming projects from action specialist, Jason Statham. It didn’t have a title, but it did have a premise: Statham, roaming about on a Scottish island under the assumed name of Mason, and rescuing a little girl in the middle of a raging storm.
Filming was set to begin in November 2024, with the attached director being Baltasar Kormakur, perhaps best known for his somewhat tame survival movie, Everest.
As of February 2025, things appear to have changed somewhat. Filming did not get underway in 2024. Kormakur is out and a new director is in: step forward Ric Roman Waugh, who directed Gerard Butler in the beefy end-of-the-world thriller, Greenland. Under his stewardship, the production is now due to get underway in the UK and Ireland,...

As the European Film Market kicks off Feb. 13 in Berlin with a new market head, Tanja Meissner, at the helm, this year’s buzziest titles suggest the industry will be looking toward tried-and-true genre fare and splashy, star-driven packages to thaw the winter chill.
Bankable stars are expected to heat things up in Berlin, with Ari Aster and A24’s “Eddington”, Guy Ritchie’s “Wife & Dog”, Ernest Dickerson’s untitled hitman thriller and Kantemir Balagov’s “Butterfly Jam” showcasing how marquee names remain a safe bet as uncertainty continues to reign in the theatrical market.
On the genre side of things, horror is still expected to scare up sales, with buyers looking to sink their fangs into Isabelle Huppert’s 16th-century vampire mystery “The Blood Countess” and Jacob Chase’s killer canine genre-bender “Bad Boy,” starring Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart. Meanwhile, comedy could be making a comeback,...

Sean “Diddy” Combs is still facing life behind bars if found guilty in his sex trafficking trial later this year, but on Monday the Bad Boy Records founder and Jay-Z saw one less defendant in the accusations that the duo and an unnamed female celebrity raped a 13-year-old girl in 2000.
Looking over a February 7 filing by the now middle-aged Jane Doe’s lawyers and Tony Buzbee’s firm asking to voluntary dismiss Bad Boy Records as a defendant in the matter, Judge Analisa Torres could have pulled the plug on the whole case today. Instead the Barack Obama-appointed NYC-based U.S. District Judge signed the filing from last week, with an item in the docket that said: “Pursuant to Rule 41(a)(1)(A)(i) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the plaintiff(s) and or their counsel(s), hereby give notice that the above-captioned action is voluntarily dismissed with...

Big names, high concepts, and crowd-pleasing thrills are the order of the day at this year’s European Film Market, where commercial fare is dominating over the usual arthouse prestige plays, reflecting an industry uncertain of the future of the theatrical business in the post-covid world. Action, horror, and comedy are leading the charge, with star-driven projects like Guy Ritchie’s Wife & Dog (Benedict Cumberbatch, Rosamund Pike), Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You (Rose Byrne, Conan O’Brien, A$AP Rocky), and Ernest Dickerson’s untitled hitman thriller (Samuel L. Jackson, Daveed Diggs) among the titles generating early buzz.
Genre filmmakers are also stepping up in a big way, with The Raid’s Iko Uwais launching a new production/sales outfit in Berlin for his brand of martial-arts madness, and horror entries like Bad Boy — starring Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart — and the body-horror thriller...

Good afternoon Insiders, Max Goldbart here penning the newsletter after another busy week. Read on. And sign up here.
‘Emilia’s Awards Chances…
A week is a long time: Last time I penned this very newsletter we led with the headline ‘Emilia’s Oscar March’. Not the same story this week. An unprecedented situation has played out over the past seven days during which the initial frontrunner for multiple (and possibly record-breaking) Oscar wins has been seeing its chances go up in smoke. This is due to Emilia Pérez lead Karla Sofía Gascón’s highly offensive and frankly vile tweets unearthed from several years back, which first emerged late last week. You’ve likely all seen the tweets, but what has happened since is the film’s maker, co-stars and crew trying to tout the film in spite of, not because of, its lead. At the same time, Gascón’s...
