As many as six different performers are behind the monkey mask over the course of the film, but the person revealed to be the killer is actually in the suit 95% of their time on-screen. The director, the LP, the head of hair and makeup, the UPM, and the assistant editor all filled in at various points throughout the film for as little as a shot and as long as a scene.
Running out of time, both scenes at the motel in the teaser were shot in one take. The scene in the bedroom was almost entirely improvised by the director, calling things out on the fly, as there was no time to shoot the scene as written.
