Defense attorney Rikke gets a bit of a surprise when the police charge her 87-year-old grandmother with murder. A mummified infant body is found in her grandmother's attic, and now she claims to have killed it. Rikke doesn't believe her grandmother, Martha, who seems vague and erratic, and together with the rest of the family she tries to figure out what's up and down. Is grandma lonely and looking for attention? Or does she have a secret that turns the family's perception of herself upside down?

Rikke's sister, Anne-Sofie, searches for clues in Martha's old cases, while their mother, Tina, looks inward and thinks back to her childhood. Anne-Sofie shares the joy of her pregnancy with the family, but faces a dilemma.

At the same time, Rikke becomes more and more convinced that something is wrong with her because she sees things that others don't. Rikke has to defend Martha in court, and only then does Martha understand that Rikke wants her acquitted. But Martha wants her punishment, and therefore refuses to answer her questions. Fortunately, the father of the dead child testifies, so that a verdict can be reached in the case, and the family can get some clarification.
