Defense attorney Rikke gets a bit of a surprise when the police charge her 87-year-old grandmother with murder. A mummified infant body is found in her grandmother's attic, and now she claims to have killed it. Rikke doesn't believe her grandmother, Martha, who seems vague and erratic, and together with the rest of the family she tries to figure out what's up and down. Is grandma lonely and looking for attention? Or does she have a secret that turns the family's perception of herself upside down?

Rikke can't get the truth out of her grandmother, and the family becomes more and more convinced that Martha is hiding something. Rikke's sister, Anne-Sofie, searches for clues in Martha's old cases, while their mother, Tina, looks inward and thinks back to her childhood. Anne-Sofie shares the joy of her pregnancy with the family, but faces a dilemma.

Rikke gets the DNA test results. It turns out to be Martha's child, but is it also true that Martha killed the child? Anne-Sofie finds out about Martha's past as a housekeeper and speculates about a possible motive. Martha still doesn't want to share the details with the family, but how will Rikke defend her grandmother in court when she is withholding important information?

Covid-19 has really made its entrance, and the country is shutting down. Martha, however, is more concerned with an unexpected visit that takes her breath away. Who is the man from Martha's past, and what does he know about the murder of the newborn child? Anne-Sofie throws herself into a serious lie, while Rikke is further pressured by sensations from another dimension. Tina also senses that something bigger is at stake.

Rikke discovers that the father of Martha's dead child is alive. But Martha continues to refuse to talk, and the trust between them is broken. At the same time, Rikke becomes more and more convinced that something is wrong with her because she sees things that others don't. Anne-Sofie's concealment of the chromosome defect in the unborn child is revealed.

Rikke has to defend Martha in court, and only then does Martha understand that Rikke wants her acquitted. But Martha wants her punishment, and therefore refuses to answer her questions. Fortunately, the father of the dead child testifies, so that a verdict can be reached in the case, and the family can get some clarification.
