Something about Señorita Polvora that I find totally unfathomable is that despite its 70 chapters and having been seen by upwards of 10 million people in the Americas, my review is, apparently, going to be the first to appear here on IMDb! Well, stranger things have happened, I guess! My rating is 7 stars, because 7 1/3 is not an option...So 7, it is.

From a technical production standpoint, POLVORA can stand up to almost anything produced in the USA. In fact, at times it seemed perhaps just a tad overproduced. I am usually not a great fan of Mexican Telenovelas, but this production flies completely in the face of many extremely rigid Telenovela conventions! Without crossing the Spoiler threshold, I will try to clarify Especially as regards the lead couple, a lot happens to them that you just don't see in any other Telenovelas! POLVORA makes a real effort not to glamorize Narco-traffickers nor their lifestyle.

Unfortunately, this goal is not always achieved, but it gets an "E" for effort! Not everything in POLVORA is totally original, however. Some of the interaction, particularly most of the scenes that take place in and around the strip club, are usually quite predictable. Mexico's rather prudish censorship standards would have us trying to maintain suspension of disbelief in the face of 70's style Bikini clad pole dancers. Yeah, right!

Despite the above observation, POLVORA does provide us with quite a dose of eye candy, albeit of the GP category. Considering the genre, there is undoubtedly considerably less violence than we would see in a US production. I consider that a plus, but there are many viewers who wouldn't, of course! The acting, for the most part, struck me as much better than most of what you see in this type of production. Of course, there are a number of over- the-top moments, so don't hold your breath here for any Oscarsor would that be Emmies? POLVORA is enjoyable and well made

    so... ENJOY/DISFRUTELA!

    Warning: Spoilers
The episodes are very good, the head of the cartel is actually likeable? I guess he's a kinder, gentler homicidal drug dealer. A spoiled, beautiful rich girl and the head of a drug cartel fall in love. The other 60 + episodes are their adventures and lead to an awful, but realistic conclusion. Lots of violence, brutality, sex, language. Both the girl and the drug dealer become somewhat redeemed and begin to be justice warriors, exposing the corruption in Mexico's government and law enforcement. , but for those that like happy endings, don't watch. i enjoyed it up until the last 15 minutes, therefore the 7 stars.
