  • Warning: Spoilers
"Metallica: This Monster Lives" is a live action documentary from 2014 that focuses of course as the title says on the famous rock music band Metallica. It runs for under half an hour and you could say it is a little epilogue 10 years later to the famous documentary "Some Kind of Monster". The director for both works is Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger and it is basically all interviews and footage involving current and older band members from Metallica. I kinda like the band and their music, even if I sadly have never seen them live (yet?). But they are among the bands where I would really love to be on a concert. Anyway, so as I like them I was a bit surprised because admittedly this little film here felt rather shallow to me. A bit of a pity. Not much music is included here and I am perfectly fine with that because with this running time you should keep it essential and informative and not really focus on songs that you can hear on all kinds of other places too. But I did not feel it to be really deep or informative and for all I care there was no need to make this one. Or watch it. It certainly isn't a failure, but it also delivers nothing really substantial. Only worth checking out for the very biggest fans of Hetfield and the gang.
