- A young peasant boy is taken from his home by Viking raiders and raised as one of them. But when a legendary dragon attacks his clan, he discovers that he is the Viking hero destined to stop the dragons from destroying the world.
- Erick, a young Viking warrior, joins forces with a rival clan in order to rescue a kidnapped princess from the great Midgard Serpent. It's a perilous task with a risk far greater than merely their own lives; by rescuing the princess, they might cause Ragnarök - the end of the world.
- In 7th century Scandinavia at Volsung Castle, a princess is getting prepared for some sort of ceremony while a strange old man in a hooded cloak watches. The old man then approaches the king, who looks worried, and they seem to have a silent conversation before the king nods and the man leaves. Cutting to the sea shore, two guards drag the princess to a wooden contraption that they tie her too. The king arrives with the strange old man and ignores his daughter's desperate crying as he lifts his arm and shouts out a prayer to the water. He asks the great Jormungander to accept this gift of the royal bloodline and keep Midgard safe. He then turns to his daughter as she begs him not to do this and tells him she doesn't want to die. He touches her face and tells her not to be afraid and to make her clan proud. As the princess continues to cry the king walks back to the old man in the cloak and nods at a guard. He blows a horn and something begins to stir in the water. The king asks for forgiveness, with the old man saying they had no choice as a monstrous serpent rises out of the water and eats the princess.
Skipping forward a hundred years, a young viking, Erick, and his friend, the princess of his clan, Tasya, are riding horses in the woods and laughing as they race each other. Erick admits defeat, saying Tasya beat him and then says he has something to show her. He takes her to a tall metal pole stuck in the ground and seems excited. Tasya is initially unimpressed, but Erick says that he is going to use the rod to harness the lightning of the god Thor. Suddenly the sky grows stormy and the pole gets struck by lightning. Erick excitedly retrieves a bracelet he had placed on the pole and gives it to Tasya. She tells him she cannot accept it, as she is betrothed and so only her future husband can give her gifts now. Erick tries to tell her that she doesn't even know her fiance, but Tasya says she doesn't need to and even a bracelet blessed from gods cannot change her mind about her marriage. He continues to try to talk her out of it but to no avail. Impulsively he kisses her and tries to tell her they are meant to be together, but Tasya slaps him and tells him not to talk like that and he needs to grow up.
Men on horseback enter a busy village through the gates and the villagers seem anxious and wary. The strangers greet King Orn, the leader of the village, and all seems well as Tasya returns home and finally meets her groom to be, Lord Wolven, for the first time. Wolven and his men are from a rival viking clan, with Wolven's marriage to Tasya meant to finally form a pact and bring peace between them. As a feast ensues everyone is having a good time and the groom toasts his bride. King Orn gives a speech about how the clans will join and peace will reign forever because of the marriage. Meanwhile, Erick tells with his friend Hild about how if Wolven ever hurts Tasya he will kill him. Hild spits his drink in Erick's face as he scoffs, laughing at the idea because Erick is young and scrawny while Wolven is big, strong and a king. Erick says he's serious and that he will kill Wolven if he hurts Tasya. Hild believes that Erick loves her and Erick muses that maybe he does. Hild says she belongs to Wolven now and that he needs to let her go. Suddenly Wolven stands up and says its time for some entertainment, challenging any man in the room to beat his best warrior, Stomper, for ten golden pieces. Three challengers step forward, but all three are quickly defeated and the groom brags that is the reason his clan is more powerful. Angry, Erick stands up and challenges Stomper as Wolven and his men laugh. Stomper manages to hit him once, but Erick is much faster and more nimble than the big guy and manages to take him down. Wolven begrudgingly gives Erick the reward of ten golden pieces and asks for his name. Erick says he is Erick the Blessed and Tasya explains that as a boy Erick was struck by lightning but Thor reached down and spared his life, meaning he was touched by the gods. Wolven and his men laugh at this, calling Erick a liar. King Orn defends the boy, saying the clan believed him then and they believe him now. Wolven is unconvinced and continues to laugh and ridicule Erick, causing Erick to toss back his gold and leave the feast.
Back home Erick talks with his father, the blacksmith Lars, saying he isn't going to the wedding. He tells his father that he loves Tasya and always has and his father tells him he needs to understand that Tasya is doing what's best for the clan. Erick changes the subject, talking about the forge instead and how if they can increase the heat they could work with lighter metals and make stronger, sharper swords. Lars says the bellows cannot create such heat and Erick suggests using lightning, but his father warns that lightning belongs to the gods and tells Erick not to try and take whats not his.
Elsewhere the strange old man from the beginning of the film walks through the forest with giant wolves at his side. He looks out at the sea and worriedly tells the wolves that the great Jormungandr is restless before disappearing in a flash of blue mist. He is apparently some sort of sorcerer/wizard.
Erick and Hild are out shooting arrows into an old helmet, arguing about whether Hild should go to the wedding or not. Erick finally tells him to just go and Hild does, but says he's only going for the food. Back in the village Stomper tells Wolven he can still make a run for it, but Wolven says that this is what he wants and they walk up to King Orn. As Tasya enters the scene and "walks down the aisle", we see several armed men traveling through the woods near the village.
Erick is still in the woods, about to shoot a deer with his crossbow when an arrow narrowly misses him. Three of the soldiers attack him but he manages to fight them off and kill them before running away. Erick comes upon cliff overlooking ships docked in the harbor and he realizes that his people are in danger and rushes back to warn his village. Back at the village, the ring is about to be placed on Tasya's finger and the wedding ceremony is nearly complete but at that moment the soldiers attack the village and all hell breaks loose. During the battle dozens of villagers are injured or killed and King Orn is slain. Tasya is taken prisoner by the invading soldiers with Erick and Wolven finding out that she has been kidnapped and watching the boats sail away. Desperate to save his bride, Wolven shouts for them to head to their own boats so they can follow but Erick quickly points to the burning wreckage left from the enemy soldiers destroying all their ships.
Back at the village, the survivors tend to the dead and wounded while Erick tells his father and Hild that Tasya was taken. Confused as to why she might have been taken, Lars picks up a severed hand from on of the invading warriors and points out a tattoo marking him as a member of the Volsung clan. Erick doesn't understand why the Volsung clan would risk war for a woman, but Lars points out that she is a princess. Every one hundred seasons the Volsung clan sacrifices the daughter of the king to appease Jormungandr, the son of Loki and arch-enemy of Thor, who takes the form of a giant serpent. Wolven says that Tasya is not of their bloodline, but Erick speculates that if the king of the Volsungs only had sons then they would need to take a princess from another clan. Wolven immediately decides they should build a ship and sail for the Volsung island. Lars rejects this plan, saying Tasya will be dead long before they can build a boat. Erick suggests that they go to Greylock, an old fisherman who lives with his son out on the sea shore away from any society. Hild thinks this is ridiculous as Greylock is a recluse and is very strange but Wolven tells the boys to take him and his men to the fisherman anyway. As they prepare to leave, Hild warns Erick to watch his back around Wolven and his men. Erick is confused why he should as their clans now have a truce, but Hild reveals that the ceremony wasn't completed and Tasya isn't married, meaning that the truce is still not official. Erick is clearly surprised by this news but now he knows he needs to be careful around Wolven and his men.
Erick and Hild lead Wolven to Greylock's cabin where Wolven asks for more information on the old fisherman. Erick says there isn't much to tell; he trades his fish in the village, has a son that no one ever sees and hates people but he has a boat he built years ago that they can maybe barrow. Hild comments that Greylock has had "one too many blows to the head". Wolven orders his men to enter the house, saying that if they can't find the old man they'll take his boat anyway. His men are quickly incapacitated by several traps, however; and Erick tries a more peaceful approach. He calls to Greylock and introduces himself, saying they have come for the old man's help. Greylock asks who Wolven and his goons are and Erick says they are friends. Greylock finally comes out of his house wielding a harpoon, followed by his son Mani, and asks what they want. Erick explains that the princess has been kidnapped by the Volsung and Wolven says they want his boat. Greylock is angry that the king of an enemy clan is there and he insults Wolven and his men and asks Erick why they are traveling together. Erick says Wolven is engaged to Tasya and that their marriage will bring peace to the clans. Greylock doubts it but he offers them a meal in exchange for information about the attack.
Inside the cabin, Erick tells Greylock that King Orn is dead and the Volsung intend to sacrifice Tasya to Jormungandr since their king has no daughters. Greylock is sorry the king is dead but isn't interested in helping them save the princess and tells them it's best they don't interfere. He believes the legends the Volsung tell. If Jormungandr is not satisfied with a sacrifice he will bring about the end of the world, known as Ragnarok in Norse mythology. Furious, Wolven says they are taking the boat whether he gives permission or not and threatens to cut off Greylock's fingers if he tries to stop them. Greylock ignores him, making Wolven even angrier and the latter grabs the fisherman's hand to cut off his thumb. Erick tries to calm Wolven down and Greylock's son, Mani, begs the angry viking not to hurt his father. Finally Greylock gives in, telling them they can take the boat but clearly believes that they will die on their journey.
As Wolven's men prepare the boat to sail, Mani chases down Erick and Hild and says he's coming along with them. Hild says no, calling Mani a child and Mani angrily declares he is not a child and has seen sixteen summers. Hild says this isn't a game and that they might be sailing to their deaths, but Mani insists they won't if he's navigating. He was born on that boat, he says, and he was with his father when they saw the serpent Jormungandr and he can take them to Volsung. Hild claims they will find it on their own but Erick realizes that Mani can save them time. He tells Mani to get the provisions he'll need and the boy rushes away to get ready. Hild is annoyed and confused, asking how they'll explain the boy to Wolven but Erick says they will just tell him the truth. They have just hired the best navigator in the land.
Finally ready to set sail, Greylock sees the group off, unaware that Mani is sneaking onto the boat with them. He tells Erick that Tasya isn't worth them dying, or risking the end of the world, but Erick says they think she is. As the boat leaves, Greylock realizes that his son is gone and has left with the rescue team. Falling to his knees he prays to Thor to protect his child.
On the Volsung ships, Tasya is woken by one of her captors and given water. She asks where they are taking her and the man says they are going to the Volsung castle, where through her death the world will continue to live. He smiles at her and tells her she should be proud that she has been chosen.
Meanwhile at said castle, the king of the Volsung, Sigvat is discussing things with the wizard with the wolves. The sorcerer is worried about the wrath kidnapping Tasya will bring not only from her own clan, but her future husband's as well. Sigvat is unconcerned, claiming that the two clans' history of violence and distrust will keep them from being able to work together and with their fleet destroyed they have no chance of interfering. The wizard is still worried and Sigvat wants to know why. The wizard says that Jormungandr is restless, more so than ever before, and that concerns him. Sigvat says the serpent is just excited and we learn that the wizard is immortal, but the king finds his worries annoying and dismisses him.
Back on the boat of rescuers, Wolven orders his men to row faster and then tells Mani to give them water. As he gives water to Hild and Erick, Erick says Mani is small for his age and asks if he's sure he's seen sixteen summers. Mani is not amused and the three bicker for a moment as Hild and Erick tease him. Wolven orders them to shut up and keep rowing and Mani makes a snippy remark, earning him a smack from Hild. Cutting away for a moment we see Princess Tasya being dragged towards Volsung castle before its back to the heroes' boat. Mani and Erick, who seem to have somewhat become friends, talk about whether their going in the right direction and then about Erick's fascination with storms and lightning and that he wants to harness the heat of lightning. He is sure that Mani thinks he's a fool, but Mani assures him that if he thought Erick a fool he wouldn't be on this journey. Mani then tells Erick about when he and Greylock saw the serpent, but Erick dismisses it as having been a whale and looks back at the stormy sky.
Up at Volsung, Princess Tasya is taken to King Sigvat. He says he hopes her trip was comfortable and she angrily points out that he attacked her village and abducted her on her wedding day. Sigvat explains that he has only been blessed with sons and his sister Astrid died an unfortunate death, so she has been chosen to serve their kingdom. Tasya says she doesn't care what she was chosen for, she'd rather die that serve the Sigvat. He tells her she won't just be serving him, she will be serving everyone including her own clan. She has been chosen as the sacrifice for the great serpent and will thus placate it and prevent the end of the world. Tasya says she isn't his daughter and Sigvat acknowledges this, saying that for the sake of mankind he hopes she will do. He then orders her to be taken away to her room but Tasya manages to undo her bindings and grabs a guard's dagger. Taking a serving girl as a hostage, she tries for an escape attempt but is quickly captured and subdued. The king says if she's going to behave like that then she will spend her time in Volsung in the dungeons. The guards take her to a cell and chain her wrists, leaving her there crying as they leave.
On Greylock's boat they have sailed into a terrible storm. Wolven asks how far away they are from the island and Mani says they are close. Erick realizes they are too close and are about to run into several dangerous rock formations. The vikings are forced to abandon ship.
Tasya meets her cellmate, a creepy cripple who sniffs her hair and tells her she is quite a pretty thing. He has been in prison for a very long time and asks what she did to anger the king. Tasya explains she didn't do anything and that she has been chosen as a sacrifice. Realizing she is a princess the prisoner says she has been sent to save them and that it is a noble way to die. Tasya suggests they clean him up, put him in her dress and he can die a noble death instead. He will gladly take her place, he says, as it would finally get him out of prison. As Tasya cries the prisoner pulls two strange artifacts from his sleeve and places them at her feet.
Swimming to shore after jumping ship, Erick and the others finally make it to the beach. Erick quickly realizes that Mani is missing, the boy seems to have drowned in the sea. Wolven is not concerned and says the boy was useless. He's more angry because three of his men are dead and Erick and Hild are still alive. He wonders why the gods would spare them and Erick says he could ask the same about Wolven and his men. Wolven warns him not to push it or he'll wish he had drowned with the others.
Back at the beach Mani turns out to be alive, having washed ashore away from the others. A group of Volsung soldiers find him and are asking where he came from when Mani makes a run for it. As Wolven continues to threaten Erick, Mani arrives with the Volsung warriors in tow and a battle erupts. Wolven's men quickly dispatch all but one of the Volsung soldiers and they threaten the survivor until he agrees to take them to Tasya. The prisoner refuses to travel the woods during the night though, saying that the forest is full of dangerous wolves descended from Fenrir himself and that all men fear them save the king's Druid (the wizard). He says the only thing that will keep them safe is a campfire and after some consideration Wolven relents. Settling down for the night, Hild cooks fish while the rest of the party sit around the fire. Mani suddenly decides to go get fresh water and Wolven orders him to get firewood as well. Erick says he will help him, leaving Hild alone with Wolven and his men.
Out gathering firewood, Erick comes across Mani cleaning up by a small creek/river and sees him with his hat off for the first time and with most his heavy outer clothing gone, revealing long blonde hair and bare shoulders. Mani is actually a girl. Flabbergasted, Erick says her name and she jumps up and asks why he's following her as she tries to put her outer clothes back on. He is very confused and wants to know why she was pretending to be a boy. Mani says that Greylock was keeping her hidden and that the easiest way to do that was for her to be a boy. Erick asks why Greylock is hiding her and Mani asks if he promises not to tell anyone if she tells him. He promises, but before she can tell him Hild turns up calling for Erick and saying Wolven and his men are scary. Erick and Mani rush to put her hat back on to hide her hair and just manage it before Hild finds them. He's annoyed that Erick is taking so long and tries to bully Mani when she makes a smart comment but Erick stops him. The three head back to camp and Erick keeps Mani's secret so the rest of the group continue to believe she's a boy.
In Volsung castle, Princess Tasya is removed from her cell and taken to be prepared for the sacrifice. As she leaves, her cell mate turns into the king's wizard and he watches her as the guards take her away. We cut away to the forest as our heroes wake up and head out. Mani and Erick share an awkward silence as they get up, but neither of them says anything and the party moves on. Going back to the castle, Tasya is being prepared just like the princess in the beginning of the film but if being restrained with a collar around her neck attached to a pole to keep her from struggling. She tells the women preparing her that her people will destroy Volsung for this, but the servants don't seem worried and tell her to be calm. It will all be over soon.
The wizard is in the forest and he can sense Wolven's group. He tells his two giant wolves to take care of them and the animals get up and begin their hunt. Meanwhile the group continues through the forest and Wolven asks their Volsung prisoner how much further they have to go. He says they are close but the party stops as they hear howling close by. Wolven asks if the wolves are following them and the prisoner says that the Druid must know that they are here. Suddenly a scream echoes out and the group dashes back to find one of Wolven's minions with his arm and leg ripped off and lying dead in bloody snow. The wolves circle around the group and Erick orders Mani to stand behind him and asks Hild to remind him to kill Wolven if they survive this. The wolves snag another one of Wolven's men and kill him while the Volsung prisoner manages to escape. One of the wolves charges past Erick and Hild and rushes towards Mani, but instead of attacking it stops and looks at her curiously. Hild runs in to protect Mani and the wolf attacks him, pinning him down and biting his throat before Erick manages to stab and kill it. Wolven and his surviving men abandon Erick, Hild and Mani, running off to save Tasya and leaving them to die. Erick tries to help his friend but Hild dies from his wounds and Erick says that Odin has seen his courage and awaits him in Valhalla. He takes Hild's sword and gives it to Mani, saying Hild would have wanted her to have it.
Wolven's other surviving minion is worried that they left the others behind, saying that they will need rowers when they rescue the princess. Wolven says they will figure it out and they continue on. Out in the woods the Volsung prisoner gets killed by the remaining wolf and Erick and Mani are trying to make their way to the castle. As they walk Erick asks why the wolf didn't attack Mani. She claims she doesn't know but Erick doesn't believe her and asks her to tell him the truth. Mani stops and finally says she thinks the wolves protect the Voslung royal family. Erick is confused, wondering what that has to do with her. Mani then confesses that Sigvat is her true father. Erick asks who her mother is and she says she was Astrid, the king's sister. His wives would only give him sons so he raped his sister in hopes of finally getting a daughter. Heavily pregnant, Astrid threw herself from the castle into the sea in either a suicide or escape attempt and Sigvat believed she had drowned. Instead Greylock found her clinging to a log a few days later and rescued her. She gave birth to Mani on Greylock's boat and died shortly after. Greylock promised Astrid that he would raise Mani as his own and keep her safe from Sigvat no matter what, thus he dressed her as a boy and called her his son.
Erick is surprised by this new information, but quickly begins to worry as he realizes that if Sigvat or Wolven knew she was here they would sacrifice her to Jormungandr. Wolven would trade her for Taysa without a second thought but Mani points out that it would save Tasya's life. Erick is horrified, saying that there has to be a way to save them both. Mani says no one can protect her and that its her destiny to die. Erick is adamant that the need for a sacrifice is just a story, but Mani says it doesn't matter either way because the attack on his village and all the violence since is because of her. She blames herself and offers to give herself over to the Volsungs to save Tasya and stop further bloodshed. Erick flat out refuses, grabbing her shoulders and looking her in the eyes, saying that no one is going to be sacrificed today. He then says they need to get going and find a perch or hill so they can figure out where they are. Mani is obviously shocked and confused that he is so willing to protect her, but seems to be touched and grateful as well. The two search for higher ground to get their bearings.
The Druid comes to escort Tasya to the beach. As they walk Tasya says that her people will be coming. The wizard says that they did come and that they are all dead. Tasya calls him a liar but looks scared as they continue down the hall. In the forest Mani has climbed a tree and says they are going the right way to reach the beach where Tasya will be sacrificed. As she jumps/falls out of the tree Erick catches her and accidentally touches her breasts. Mani shoves away from him and tells him never to touch her like that again. Erick apologizes, saying he is sorry but she was falling so what else was he supposed to do. As Mani snaps that they go this way and storms off, still mad. Erick mutters that he liked her better as a boy.
On the beach, Tasya is tied to the sacrifice contraption and Sigvat gives the prayer speech to Jormungandr. Taysa implores Thor to strike down the king and Sigvat slaps her. She gets another slap for saying she spits on Loke and his serpent and then the king orders for his men to sound the battle horn. As the horn sounds we see Wolven's group and Erick and Mani rushing to save Tasya. The water begins to stir as Wolven and his two men arrive, astounded that the serpent actually exists. Still, they charge into battle and attack the king and his men while Mani and Erick arrive and head for Tasya.
Wolven battles Sigvat, finally running him through and finishing him off with decapitation. With the king and his men dead Wolven and his minions rush to Erick and Mani, who have cut Tasya free. Wolven picks up his bride and they run towards the ships farther down the shore as the serpent finally rises out of the water. With no princess as a sacrifice he eats the Druid still standing on the shore as the wizard laughs maniacally.
Reaching the boat, our heroes climb aboard and begin to row away, successfully escaping the serpent and the Volsung. While aboard the ship Tasya and her fiance embrace and kiss, making Erick jealous. Mani mentions that his princess is not his princess anymore and points out that Wolven and Tasya are in love. Erick denies this, saying he sees a union of convenience and nothing more. Mani is surprised he can see anything through his jealousy. Wolven and his men brag about their heroism, speaking about how they will become legends. Erick reminds them that he, Hild and Mani helped save the princess as well and fought just as bravely. Wolven initially sneers at this, but Tasya tells him that they did help immensely and he finally agrees. He promises them they will be rewarded.
In the village back home, Lars and Greylock are waiting anxiously and are the first to see as the heroes return with the princess. Erick is greeted warmly by his father, but Greylock is clearly still mad at Mani and coldly asks her what happened. She explains Sigvat is dead and the serpent is no longer a threat. Lars asks where Hild is and Erick admits that he died on the journey. Lars says they will drink to his courage tonight as they feast. Wolven addresses the village, proclaiming that since King Orn is dead this marriage will not only be a truce but a full union and declares himself king of both clans and that he an Tasya will finish the wedding ceremony tomorrow. Erick is devastated and runs away to think. Mani goes to follow him, pushing past Greylock when he tries to stop her.
Standing at the shore Erick is throwing rocks into the ocean, angry and hurt that Tasya is still going to marry Wolven. Mani arrives and tries to talk to him but he wants to be alone. She tries to say its not the end of the world and that two people can connect when they least expect it, awkwardly attempting to confess that she cares about him. But Erick isn't listening because he suddenly notices something moving in the water out at sea. Realizing the serpent has come for Mani, they rush back to the village to warn them.
Consulting Lars and Greylock, Erick and Mani discuss the serpent and that it still wants a sacrifice. Erick wonders why Thor doesn't just destroy the serpent, but Greylock says he can't as Odin was the one who banished Jormungandr to the ocean and Thor can't kill it without his father's power. Thor wants the serpent destroyed though, as Jormungandr killed a Volsung woman that Thor fell in love with and threatened to destroy the world if the reigning king of Volsung didn't sacrifice a daughter to him every one hundred years. Erick says that Thor needs the people as much as they need him and believes he would help them if they tried to fight the serpent.
Wolven is ordering one of his men to go to their clan and return with warriors, refusing Tasya when she says she will give herself to the serpent to save her people. He says he won't allow her to sacrifice herself, not now not ever. As he passes by the forge they overhear Erick telling Lars that Mani is a Volsung princess. Erick says she needs to go with Greylock and flee but Mani refuses, saying that if the serpent wants her it can have her. Greylock angrily reminds her he promised her mother he would keep her safe but Mani insists that she can put an end to all this. At this Wolven barges in, revealing that he's heard everything and he smacks Erick out of the way as he grabs Mani. Dragging her out into the village square roughly, he holds her at knife point as his men attack Erick and Greylock. Erick is nearly strangled and Lars kills one of Wolven's men who attacks Greylock. Tasya intervenes before Erick is murdered and demands Wolven explain himself. Calling everyone to gather around he tears off Mani's hat while she struggles and tries to get to Greylock, who was mortally wounded during the scuffle, and reveals her as a Volsung princess. Tasya is shocked, asking how this can be. Mani confirms the truth, declaring she goes willingly to her death before Wolven finally releases her and she rushes to Greylock's side. He chokes that he failed her and her mother, but Mani says that he loved her as a daughter and there is no failure in that. Greylock dies and Mani grieves over his body as she cries.
Wolven is furious that Greylock has been keeping Mani hidden all these years and was gladly willing to let Tasya die in her place. He tells Tasya a princess will be sacrificed, but it will certainly not be her. With that he grabs Mani by the hair and begins to drag her away, ordering everyone to the beach to sacrifice her to the serpent.
Lars helps Erick up, who is hurt and out of breath from nearly being strangled. Erick says he has to stop them but Lars says its too late. Erick insists that he must save Mani and that he can kill the serpent but he needs a horse. Rushing away he heads out to retrieve his lightning rod.
On the beach Wolven attempts to summon Jormungandr as Mani stands ready to die, but the serpent doesn't come. They sound their battle horn but still he doesn't show. The whole crowd waits as night falls. The try to summon the serpent again several times and at last they see the water stir. Mani starts to cry, ready and willing to die but terrified nonetheless. Just then Erick arrives and calls her name. Wolven orders Stomper to stop him, but Lars shoots him down with his crossbow. Wolven rushes to take Erick down instead as Mani screams she has to do this.
Wolven yanks Erick from his horse but Erick manages to blind him with some dirt and then knock him down with his metal rod. Erick runs towards Mani and Wolven gets up, rushing to get his sword to kill Erick. Jormungandr rises out of the water and spits a jet of fire at Wolven, killing him as Tasya screams in horror. At the same time Erick reaches Mani and tells her to run as he charges the serpent and stabs it in the face with his lightning rod.
The serpent rears up and roars in pain, lifting Erick with it while Mani screams for him. Dangling from the rod, Erick lets go just as lightning strikes it and electrocutes the serpent. Jormungandr explodes from the overload of Thor's lightning and Erick falls into the ocean. Mani cries, thinking he is dead, but then he crawls up the shore and stumbles towards the crowd as they start cheering his name. He looks at Tasya, who smiles at him and seems very proud of her friend, but then Erick looks at Mani and he seems to realize that she is the one he truly cares about.
Cut to Volsung castle, where Mani says in a voice over that Erick the Blessed became Erick the Savior and Thor's lightning never touched him again. But over time the gods blessed him in other ways. We see Mani in the castle throne room in a fancy dress with a crown on her head, showing she returned to Volsung to become the queen. In comes Erick holding a baby and he hands the little bundle to Mani before he lovingly kisses his wife and they sit on their thrones.
The End
