  • Along w/the likes of David Firth, David O'Reilly is one of the very very best mostly-internet-based animators working today. Having seen the beautiful portrayal of love in his 2008 experimental short 'Please Say Something', my interest in his work began to sprout, leading me to viewing 'The Horse Raised by Spheres', an even shorter and, in my opinion, even better short. Perhaps it doesn't exactly deserve 9/10 stars, but it affected me in such a conflicting and amazing way that I cannot help but give it that honor (I do suggest any readers of my reviews take my ratings w/some rather heavy dosages of salt as these 'ratings' of mine are oft-extremely personal). I was on the verge of laughter and tears within the exact same moment, and, in my opinion, it was absolutely beautiful. Everything about this short provides us w/an excellent and meaningful balance of the funny and the sad, as well as the hugely absurd and borderline surreal yet totally sincere (and relatable), and there's little more than I appreciate in art than the possibility of such balances as that.
