After nearly a quarter century, Jared Peters has been released from prison having served his full sentence, although he probably would have been granted parole when he was eligible if he had applied for it. He was nineteen when he was charged and thus has spent his entire adult life in prison. Only out of courtesy as a survivor of the violent incident that put Jared in prison, college probability professor Sergei Radic, married with a now adolescent son to who he is like a sort of superhero, is informed of Jared's release, a day he knew would eventually come. Jared and Sergei's parallel stories are told in light of their new realities, with their only face to face meeting that fateful night but which has led to their all present shared history. Sergei's story also includes that of his longtime friend, police officer John Bedford, who is going through his own issue in life in delaying signing divorce papers to end the marriage to thus his still official wife, Shelly.—Huggo
