- Akela is unwell, and without his guidance the wolf pack is unsuccessful in their hunts.
- Mowgli continues his training under Bagheera's watchful eyes. Bagheera trains Mowgli on how to harvest a coconut from its tree, using rocks. Mowgli tries different techniques to throw rocks to generate maximum power and range in his shots.
Akela is always sick, and without his guidance the pack is in complete disarray. The wolf pack is really demotivated. Bagheera suggests that if Akela walks about, he might recover quickly, but Leela says that Akela is very old and doesn't have the same energy as in his youth.
Mowgli and Bagheera use their new stone technique to hunt for deer together. They manage to kill 3 deer together. But that's when Sher Khan arrives at the scene. Sher Khan says that Mowgli has hunted in his territory which is against the law of the jungle. Bagheera says that it is Sher Khan who is trespassing. The verbal repartee continue which riles Sher Khan. Sher Khan attacks Mowgli, but he easily evades Sher Khan. Mowgli gather rocks before Sher Khan can attack again.
Sher Khan asks Tabaqui to steal Bagheera's kills. Bagheera moves to protect his hunt and that leaves Mowgli alone to face Sher Khan. Sher Khan makes his move and lunges at Mowgli. Mowgli waits till the last second, throws a large rock directly at Sher Khan's face and moves out of his way. Sher Khan starts bleeding from the forehead. He notices that Tabaqui and his colleagues have run away. Now Sher Khan is outnumbered and injured. He decides to retreat.
Bagheera is impressed with how Mowgli faced Sher Khan. Bagheera is livid that wolves have become dysfunctional to such an extent that they could not observe Sher Khan's entry into their territory. Mowgli agrees with Bagheera and narrates a story to support his point. A few days ago, Chil brought the news of a herd of buffaloes passing through their territory. Akela was sick, so the pack decided to hunt by itself, since this was a golden opportunity to get some food. The pack is unable to decide a leader to lead the hunt, since they all end up fighting amongst themselves. So, the pack goes to hunt without a designated leader. The pack ignores Chil's recommendation to appoint Mowgli as the leader. Since there was no planning, everybody took up a position according to their own wish. The wolf attack was not coordinated, and everybody attacked at random. As a result, the buffaloes simply rode through the pack and mowed them down. The pack sustained heavy injuries but was lucky that nobody was killed.
Even the monkeys start to make fun of Akela and his companions. Monkeys suggest that wolves should give up hunting and start looking for bananas instead. Mowgli decides to teach a lesson to the monkeys, but in the trees they cannot be defeated. Mowgli is forced to retreat.
Bagheera tells Mowgli that he needs to think about developing unity in the pack. Mowgli brings the deer from his hunt to Akela and Leela. Mowgli meets with Akru and Pakdu and discusses the sudden plethora of problems facing the pack. Mowgli says that the next leader of the pack should be Vikram.
