Sales agency Cercamon has debuted the trailer for time-shift drama “Embryo Larva Butterfly,” which has its world premiere in the Proxima Competition section of Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
The film, directed and written by Cypriot Kyros Papavassiliou, is described by the festival as “an imaginative film about the paradoxes of time and of romantic and other relationships.”
It centers on Penelope and Isidoros, who live in a world where today they are lovers but the following day they scarcely know one another. It is a place where time doesn’t flow, where the days appear randomly in the past, present and future.
“Their relationship is constantly changing,” according to Karlovy Vary. “It is one continuous uncertainty marked by shared searching and reassuring. Somewhere next to their world is another where time is linear. It is possible to travel from arbitrary time to linear time, but the conditions for such a...

Dreaming of David, the album Ryan Beatty released in the early weeks of 2020, featured a bold declaration on the single “Patchwork,” where he promised: “This is not my last masterpiece/I am Michelangelo.” Three years later, the 27-year-old singer and songwriter is following through on his word. On April 28, Beatty will release his third studio album, Calico.
The first preview of the album, the newly released single “Ribbons,” is a sobering snapshot of a late night in California bleeding into the early hours of the next morning. The song, built around an airy piano melody,...

"A towering, teetering and exquisitely-wrought puzzle box." The Cinema Guild has released an official US trailer for a French-German indie film titled Human Flowers of the Flesh, which originally premiered at the 2022 Locarno Film Festival last year. Opening at the Metrograph in NYC in April, with hopefully more cinemas to follow. In her spellbinding followup to the critically acclaimed Drift, Helena Wittmann invites us to relinquish control and join her on a Mediterranean voyage unlike any other. Ida lives on a sailing yacht with a crew of five men. While on shore leave in Marseilles, she becomes fascinated with the French Foreign Legion and decides to sail to Sidi Bel Abbès (see Google Maps), the Legion's former headquarters in Algeria. This stars Angeliki Papoulia as Ida, along with Steffen Danek, Gustavo Jahn, Ingo Martens, and Denis Lavant. The film looks extremely experimental and intensely meditative, definitely not for everyone,...

An increasingly important category as the world’s animation industry scours for new talent, this year’s 3rd Quirino Awards Animation School Short section will showcase rising talents from Portugal, Bolivia and Brazil in contenders “Néstor,” “Gravedad” and “I Guess It Went Something Like That.”
A portrait of an obsessive-compulsive man living in an ever-swaying houseboat, “Néstor” marks the first year short of Portugal’s João Gonzalez at the U.K.’s Royal College of Art. Made with zero budget and conceived on a tight deadline, the author took on direction, animation and musical composition –played by the cellist Miguel Teixeira.
Gonzalez also used 2D frame-by-frame animation to achieve both complete visual control and aesthetic freedom. The technique also proved highly apt for the framing he wantedd, including shots rarely found in an animation film.

On the eve of Horror Channel’s UK TV premiere of Patchwork, director Tyler MacIntyre reflects on body image issues. twisting audience expections and his admiration for current female genre directors.

The UK genre fans are among the most diehard in the world, so I’m very excited to finally have it available for them.

Segovia, Spain — Spain’s 3D Wire, an increasingly important festival and market dedicated to animation, comics, video games, traditional gaming, Vr and Ar, wrapped its 10th edition this weekend in Segovia. Four days of industry workshops, works in progress presentations, meetings and much more culminated on Saturday night with an awards ceremony held at the Museo Zuloaga.
Here are five highlights from the weekend, and a complete list of award winners:
The Big Winners
Pixar story artist Trevor Jimenez’s poignant “Weekends” continued its 2018 run of festival successes, taking top honors for best animated short film. Madrid — Over Oct. 4-7, the city of Segovia will host 3D Wire, Spain’s premier platforms for upcoming animation, video games, 3D and Ar content produced on the Iberian Peninsula, across Latin America and beyond.
This year’s market will see more than 1,000 industry professionals visit the historical Roman city best known for its extremely well preserved aqueducts. Segovia seems an ideal place to host an animation festival; the Alcazar de Segovia Castle is said to have inspired Walt Disney and the logo that accompanies so many of the artform’s most iconic productions.
Attendees will be invited to participate in presentations, screenings, round tables and conferences; a number of prizes will be awarded to upcoming projects; there will be a competition for animated short films. The official competition is broken up into domestic and international sections with the former featuring seven animated shorts, while the rest of the world contributes 26 – five from the U.

Billed as an “Lgbt hipster ghost story,” Ruined is a YouTube-first comedy web series that follows the residents (both living and dead) of a hospital-turned-apartment building in Hackney, East London.
Creator Lily Smith tells Tubefilter she made the series to “address my dual anxieties about the rise of neo-Nazism, and not being cool enough to live in Hackney.”
Six episodes have been released so far, with each episode running under 10 minutes. Ruined is for fans of clever, self-aware horror films like Patchwork and The Babysitter, with a good ol’ dose of British wit. It’s also apparent the series has an excellent production team, which includes Smith and co-director Sam Heasman.

Happy 2018, everyone! For most of us, 2017 was a bit of a challenging year, but what remained a constant bright spot for this writer was the deluge of amazing horror and sci-fi offerings that kept the last 12 months from feeling like a complete loss. I was fortunate enough to have been able to take in well over 200 movies throughout 2017, so when it came time to whittle down my list of favorites, let’s just say some tears were shed while I had to make some very difficult decisions about what to include here.
Also, because we listed The Shape of Water, Get Out, and It as our collective favorites over on Corpse Club, I’ve omitted them here because I’ve prattled on about that amazing trio of films enough already, and I wanted to go ahead and shine the spotlight on a few other movies (and some other stuff, too...

A festival favourite, Patchwork involves a three-in-one deal, in which three women are sewn into one. The results should be horrifying, but they are more laugh worthy. The Canadian horror comedy Patchwork is set for its Calgary Premiere. This film, influenced by Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, tears three women apart and puts them back together again. A teaser for the film (hosted below) was released for this feature earlier in the year. The clip's music is soothing, while the images are not. From director Tyler MacIntyre, the film stars: Tory Stolper, Tracey Fairaway, Maria Blasucci and James Phelps. Playing at several upcoming showings, a preview of Patchwork's Calgary release is hosted here. The film calls itself a "throw-back" horror-comedy. Likely influenced by the low-brow comedies of the '80s, three women find themselves sewn to each other, after a wild night of partying. Now, they must work together, in one body, or lose what little remains of themselves. The Calgarian event takes place on April 16th, 2016. Director Tyler MacIntyre will be in attendance and Calgarians should head out to the theatre,...

Over the past year I reviewed a lot of indie horror films, some of them really good, some of them just Ok, and some of them really, really bad. The following isn't exactly a best of the year list, because I haven't watched every single film that was released, played at a film festival, or completed filming this year. Rather, these are the best movies that I reviewed for MoreHorror.com in 2015, and are all movies that I can recommend without hesitation.
Mania is directed by Jessica Cameron and stars Ellie Church. Olalla is written and directed by Amy Hesketh and stars Amy Hesketh, Jac Avila, Mila Joya, and Erix Antoine. Headless is directed by Arthur Cullipher, written by Nathan Erdel, and stars Shane Beasley, Kelsey Carlisle, Dave parker and Ellie Church. Spring is directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead and written by Justin Benson,...

A Tricky Treat is directed by Patricia Chica and written by Kamal John Iskander. Die! Sitter! Die! : Rupert is written and directed by Lee Boxleitner and Sam Boxleitner. Harmful Sensations is written and directed by Jenson Rule Tierra. Meridians is directed by Blake Rice and written by Mark E. Davidson. Yummy Meat: A Halloween Carol is directed by John Fitzpatrick and written by Sean J. Decker.
I have already covered two great short films that played at Screamfest 2015, Night of the Slasher and Mirrored. Those two shorts got separate articles because they were paired with feature films with which they shared common themes, and it made sense to review them together with the features that they preceded. There were a number of outstanding shorts however that played in short blocks, or were paired with features that they didn't seem to share much in common with,...

Patchwork
Written by Tyler MacIntyre & Chris Lee Hill
Directed by Tyler MacIntyre
Canada/USA, 2015
Director Tyler MacIntyre’s film, Patchwork, is horror/comedy that puts a modern spin on the mythology established in Mary Shelley’s classic story, Frankenstein. At its core, Patchwork is an examination of life death in the modern age, mixed with violence, gore, and a cheeky tone sure to delight fans of classic 80’s scream-fests.
In Patchwork, Jennifer (Tory Stolper) is a young professional woman living in Los Angeles, and the embodiment of the fast-paced L.A. lifestyle: she hangs out in bottle service booths inside trendy nightspots, wears pantsuits, and dates a douchey guy that wears a Bluetooth headset while at a club (and he also cheats on his wife). When Jennifer’s frenemies don’t show up to join her birthday jam, she goes home alone, hoping to “Netflix and chill” with her philandering...

Patchwork is directed by Tyler MacIntyre. The film stars Tory Stolper, Tracey Fairaway, Maria Blasucci, with Corey Sorenson and James Phelps.
Mirrored is directed by Ryan Shovey and written and produced by Nicole Bird. The film stars Aaron Jay Rome, David Colan, and Bryan Mordechai Jackson
There are a lot of people within the horror community right now who grew up watching absolutely gonzo insane horror films like Re-animator, Evil Dead 2, and Frankenhooker, which actually came out in 1990 but whatever. These are wild, anarchic films that at the time formed a subversive little bubble trapped within the soup of 1980's normality. Now, decades later, as we find ourselves in a culture that has become homogenized in a way that we haven't seen since the 1980's, there is a lot of nostalgia for these kinds of films.
This nostalgia has led to a wave of 1980's throwback films,...
