- Logging company owner and family man Joe Braven (Jason Momoa), lives with his wife Stephanie (Jill Wagner), and their daughter Charlotte (Sasha Rossof). A storm is coming, and Joe's driver Weston is taking a truck full of logs. He asks Weston to stay overnight for the storm to pass, but Weston insists to complete the run as he needs to be back by the next day.
Braven's father Linden (Stephen Lang), who suffers from dementia, gets into a bar room brawl after mistaking a woman for his wife and asking her to come back home with him. This requires Joe to come to his aid and resulting in hospitalization for Linden (after he is hit in the head with a beer mug). Sheriff Cal Osser (Steve O'Connell) is very understanding but tells Joe that he will have to arrest Linden if this happens again. The doctor tells Joe that Linden's mental condition is getting worse and that he needs full time supervision, but Joe refuses to consider putting Linden at an old age home.
Joe is distraught at the idea that he has to let Linden go as he is the strongest person he knows. On Stephanie's suggestion Joe and Charlotte spend some time together at the family's secluded mountain cabin with Linden.
While transporting logs by truck, Joe's co-worker, a driver named Weston (Brendan Fletcher) is asked by Hallett (Zahn McClarnon), a drug trafficker, to recruit other drivers into Hallett's criminal activities, but Weston refuses. Hallett loads 2 tree logs full of cocaine bags into Weston's truck. Hallett sits in the driver's cabin with Weston. As Weston gets back on the road, the storm hits in full force and Weston loses control of his truck, causing a crash that displaces all the logs and cocaine from the vehicle. Hallett cracks up his 2 logs and transfers all the cocaine pallets into a large bag.
Weston and Hallett resolve go to Joe's mountain cabin to store the cocaine there in Joe's garage. On their way back, Weston and Hallett are picked up by a police patrol car and taken to the nearest motel. Hallett relays the news of the crash to his employer, drug lord Kassen (Garret Dillahunt). Kassen is livid as he specifically told Hallett to bring the load over in multiple runs, but Hallett ignored his instructions and decided to bring the entire load in a single run.
After Joe, Linden and Charlotte arrive at the cabin, the next morning. Charlotte was hiding in the family car as Joe and Linden were going to the cabin some alone time together and Joe wanted Charlotte to stay back with Stephanie. When they reach the cabin, Joe talks to Linden about having more supervision for Linden, but Linden is offended by the idea and believes that Joe wants to put him at an old age home. Meanwhile Joe discovers the cocaine in his garage. Linden walks into the garage and they both realize that the stuff stored is drugs and that someone is coming their way to pick it up. Charlotte comes out of the car and reveals herself to Joe. Kassen and his men pick up Hallett and Weston from the motel and head to Joe's cabin.
Joe, Linden and Charlotte try to drive out, but the cabin has a single approach road, which is covered by Kassen's men. Joe senses danger with the abnormal movement of wildlife on the road and backs up to the cabin.
The cabin is then surrounded by Kassen's mercenaries. Joe tries to negotiate with Kassen by giving him half the drugs, and the other half when he clears the property and meets Joe in town in half an hour. When Weston tries to act as a go-between, Kassen kills him. Kassen sends Joe back into the cabin to get the remaining half of the drugs. Joe tries to fire up the short-wave radio, but the reception is very patchy and not clear. Unable to call for help because of lack of cellular signals at the cabin, Joe, armed with a bow and arrow, and Linden with a gun, kill some of the mercenaries during the ensuing standoff.
Needing higher ground in order to access a cellular network, Joe drives out of the house on a Quad bike with the original cocaine bag, and Charlotte, hidden under a blanket. Joe drops off Charlotte and instructs her climb to the mountain.
Meanwhile, at home, Stephanie finds a note from Charlotte that she left with Joe and starts to drive towards the cabin. On top of the mountain, Charlotte calls Stephanie when her cell phone receives proper reception and tells her that unknown men are shooting at them at the cabin. Circling back, Joe dispatches more of Kassen's men. Kassen finds the bag, but it is empty. Discovering where Joe sent Charlotte, Kassen sends one of the mercenaries, Ridley (Glenn Ennis), to find her, though when Kassen enters the cabin, he is stabbed twice by Linden, who then retreats, and is later wounded by another mercenary, Essington (Teach Grant).
Just before Ridley catches up to Charlotte, a bow-wielding Stephanie arrives, and shoots Ridley with an arrow. A hand-to-hand fight ensures, during which she stabs Ridley before fleeing.
Meanwhile, Joe returns to the cabin, where he dispatches Clay (Fraser Aitcheson) and kills Essington. Charlotte is picked up by the sheriff as Ridley continues to pursue Stephanie. Kassen takes Linden hostage. Joe pleads for his life, but Kassen fatally stabs him. Kassen is then shot by the sheriff, and escapes the cabin, later retrieving the lost cocaine. Joe then chases after him, and after a knife fight in which Kassen bests Joe and taunts him about Linden's death, Joe tackles Kassen off a cliff, killing him. Joe tearfully reconciles with his family.
