IMDB has this as die muse des mörders, released 2018. Roku has this listed as murder by the book, released 2017. In german, with english dubbing. When murders start occurring in vienna, they seem to mirror the murders which took place in the books of a local author, madeleine montana. Are the coppers jumping to conclusions, or do they know something she doesn't? The director is playing games with the viewer, as we try to figure out what's real and what is not. It's pretty good. Not a lot of suspense, but not bad. The dubbing is pretty awful for the first third of the film; so many monotone, and robotic voices, in a regular, non-human rhythmn. Then it seems to get better. Or maybe I just got more interested in the story. Directed by sascha bigler.
  • I watched this on Tubi. I took a chance on a film with no reviews and told myself I'd turn it off after ten minutes if it didn't hold my attention.

This filmed turned out to be a good thriller. A washed up crime author has her career revived when a serial killer starts reenacting portions of her old published works. The killer models his murders after the author's fictional crime scenes.

This a a good Austrian thriller with complex and realistic and flawed characters, all of whom have secrets. The movie is a whodunit and it keeps you guessing right up until the end. A fast paced, good film with talented actors.
