  • This is the first review that I am writing for IMDb. I have to start by saying that I am a lifetime film connoisseur and have favorite films throughout the world.

I especially have an affinity towards Malayalam films since I am a Malayalee. It's not often I could say that but they are making some amazing films now and made a series of brilliant films during the Golden Age of Malayalam Cinema which was during the late 70s through to the early 90's.

This film features a career-defining performance by Tini Tom as a Daffedar, someone who is equivalent to a sergeant.

This is the second film directed by writer/director Johnson Esthappan and third film written by him. Daffedar explores the tragedy that is the life of Ayyappan, a man that devoted his life to the welfare and upbringing of his two sons to place them in a position much better than him. In return, they treat him with utter contempt in there greed and position of power.

The performances were a great all-around and Johnson Esthappan and Tini Tom deserved awards for this film.

I like this film enough to want to see Esthappan's other two films starring the late great Kalabhavan Mani. It was truly remarkable and definitely worth watching. It's bad that there hasn't been any reviews for this film so far on IMDb so I wanted to change that.
