I would enjoy the show more if the sarcasm was a bit more realistic. Portraying University professors and ordained ministers being dumb does not hold much humor for me. Just saying.

Anyone expecting to find any of the humor of Big Bang Theory in this series is going to be severely disappointed. If you don't go in with any preconceived notions, this show will be merely annoying.
The high points: everyone except Sheldon. The mother is well-acted and admirable, the father is someone most people will like and appreciate, the daughter is hilarious (as much from the acting as the lines she's given), and Sheldon is an obnoxious, unbelievable brat who would benefit from continual sedation. In the real world he would not have lived this long without being beaten to a pulp by his chronological peers. In the high school into which he is unwisely and even more unbelievably forced to attend, he wouldn't last one day without becoming intimately acquainted with the inside of a locker.
If this were an archery contest this show would likely kill someone in the audience. There are mild points of humor, none of which really hit the bullseye. No one, but no one will identify with the main character (or if they do... pity them and all those who know them). It results in a show as obnoxious as the character.
In today's mixed-generation humor some will possibly find this hilarious. Others will hate it. Humor is subjective. But the casting for Sheldon is some of the worst I've seen. The actor carries none of the charm of Sheldon and every bit of his annoying qualities. The presentation is artificial and contrived, leaving the viewer wondering if they should watch more than one episode or not. The viewer who decides to leave it at one episode may claim an I.Q. higher than Sheldon-- at least in the field of television common sense.

Even some of the really bad comedy shows had a chuckle or two with something so stupid it was funny but I can say that not once did I even crack a smile. Nothing was even remotely funny. I can only think it is paid people that give it a high rating. The acting was fine and might have been OK if it wasn't supposed to be a comedy.
I normally give a show 3 viewings before I decide if it sucks or not but this one was so unfunny that it would need a whole new set of writers for the rest for it to be worth the time.
You can tell the parts where the writers thought it was going to be funny such as Radio Shack being around forever. But it just wasn't...

Having seen the commercials for Young Sheldon over the past month, I came to watch this series with low expectations. But no matter how low I set the bar, Hollywood manages to limbo under it. Sheldon Cooper is perhaps the most annoying, egotistical character in the history of network television. And yet, someone thought a show about this character as a snotty young boy would be a winner.
I didn't laugh a single time while watching the pilot. I didn't feel any empathy at all for Sheldon, nor any of his family (except maybe a little for his mother). Plot points were so predictable they once appeared in Johnny Carson's Karnak sketch.
I will give credit to the director, who got Zoe Perry to sound exactly like Laurie Metcalf does in The Big Bang Theory. But that's not enough to carry an unfunny comedy with thoroughly detestable characters.

It just doesn't click. I don't know who ever thought this was a good idea to begin with, but it detracts from the character more than it adds. Plus seems more focused on the mother than Sheldon.
If you take this show as a stand alone show and not a TBBT spin off then it's ok. Just ok! Some bits are funny but mostly the character of Sheldon is just annoying and often you feel sorry for his family. His family actually provide most of the comedy and heart warming moments! His sister has some of the best lines and is acted well! Otherwise it's just ok!
If you watch it as a spin off from TBBT then it actually becomes worse, because it doesn't tally very well with what we know of the character Sheldon from TBBT. Throughout TBBT we hear a lot about Sheldon's childhood and family but this spin off paints a whole other picture. For example: Adult Sheldon gives the impression his dad was a drunk and a poor father figure and that his Meemaw was the most caring, loving person in his family. However throughout Young Sheldon both these characters are shown as something else; George (Sheldon's dad) comes across as quite a decent loving father figure and Meemaw (Sheldon's grandmother) comes off as the drunk, gambler, who is crude and not very maternal. It just doesn't match up, and then you find the characters hard to relate to. You have to forget what you know of them and treat it as a separate entity to TBBT.
Adult Sheldon was funny because of the dynamic of a super intelligent adult person who presented many childlike characteristics, driving his friends mad. However Young Sheldon, a child who presents an adult persona, condescending, patronising and rude is just what it comes across as. You feel sorry for every other character for having to deal with him and actually find yourself getting angry with him for treating them that way! Unfortunately his acting is wooden and the styling of the character doesn't match with his adult version from TBBT.
Jim Parsons narrates as Adult Sheldon but this also is a bit pointless as we know the character of Sheldon from TBBT and it would have been nicer to have a different perspective on him, say maybe his mother or father narrating.
It's ok as background noise while doing other things but otherwise I didn't enjoy!

Remember that annoyingly selfish and narcissistic sociopath from TBBT? Now imagine an entire show centering around that same guy, but as a kid.
It's unrelatable, predictable and hardly ever funny. The narration is completely unnecessary as we already know the inner workings of this character.
I think it would be a lot more enjoyable if the show centered around the whole family, instead of them just contantly reacting to the actions of 1 person.
The best thing this show did was leave out that awful awful laughtrack
This is my first IMDb review and I am going to keep it short - ish. I love, love, love The Big Bang Theory and I have watched it since watching the pilot all those years ago. Sheldon makes me laugh so hard on so many occasions, so when Young Sheldon the TV series popped up on my TV/Movie radar I was obviously rather excited and couldn't wait to see this new treat. I forced myself to watch the Pilot to the end and that is the only episode I will ever watch. Do I need to elaborate? I think not. Do give it a shot, as you may like it and the rest of the family are funny and enjoyable to watch, but the kid Sheldon is (imo) extremely annoying and is the very reason I will avoid Young Sheldon henceforth.
I really was hoping to like this. But I was really disappointed. I can't pin down whether it was the writing, the stiff acting, or just that it wasn't entertaining, but this was a horrible miss. There is some work to be done, or this will be a short-lived show come November. Just to be clear, I love BBT, and thought this had huge potential as a spin-off, but it totally missed the mark.

Used to like this series. But even allowing for his age, has there ever been a more one dimensional actor than Ian Armitage. His facial expressions are exactly the same in every episode and seem to be getting more irritating.
The new series, we've removed series link, is the worst of them all. Sheldon doesn't seem to have grown up. He's a 5yr old in big boys pants. The plot is now ridiculous without any direction. His facial twitches when he speaks are even more pronounced and annoying. Sadly, another program where the new series is one (maybe 2/3) too many. Not a patch on TBBT!!

I found two things very wrong with this show, first, it seems that all cast are there cause of connections not acting ability. every failed show or movie starts with connection and family based casting. second, it is supposed to be a comedy, however they have added awkward melodramatic parts.
I found the concept of the show fantastic, which is why I would say what waste. I might be wrong but I feel that this show will not last long.

I find TBBT to be mildly interesting just because of Sheldon cooper and Leonard. However, this show being labeled as comedy, I was expecting some cleverly written jokes as Sheldon is portrayed as a gifted child. But on the contrary, the jokes fall flat on all levels. When I saw the sibling fighting at the dinner table, I thought this was going to get better, like Malcolm in the middle or The Goldbergs. But nah, its just poop and fart jokes that makes up the entire show. I think there are better shows right now to spend your time on. Acting is good though.

From watching TBBT, I expected a more bizarre cast of characters. Sheldon's dad is talked about on TBBT as quite the boozer, crude talker, a person whose drinking habits were so bad that a liquor store either went out of business or nearly went out of business when Sheldon's dad died. In Young Sheldon he comes across as a very typical Texas father. His mom certainly does not come across as the person who would "write her sins on a clay pigeon and blast them out of the sky" in the event "Gunning For Jesus". There are so many childhood events related in TBBT that would appear to be fodder for Young Sheldon such as Billy Sparks stuffing a peso up Sheldon's nose with Sheldon still needing a half hour to get through airport security. In Sheldon we have a person who played Krippke one on one until near death without either scoring a basket. So much to work with, so little has made it to the screen.

The Big Bang Theory was an instant hit among fans & is one the most popular sitcoms ever made. The character of Sheldon Cooper had a huge part to play in making the show a hit. Never before had people seen anything like him. His mannerisms & total lack of social skills made him one of the funniest guys on TV. Jim Parsons won a fan following across the globe. He also won 4 Emmy's & a Golden Globe for his brilliant portrayal of the much loved character. The show's reruns on TV continue to boast of a huge viewer base. The Big Bang Theory fans will be delighted to know that the show has been renewed for two more seasons. Thereby bringing the total number of seasons to 12. Fans of the series have seen their transition from complete nerds to not so nerdy guys. The awkward scientists/physicists now have gf's/wives. The show has managed to build a lasting relationship with its viewers. It is the show which made being a nerd cool! It comes as no surprise that the makers of the hit show decided to make a spin off on the Sheldon Cooper character. While the other guys were weird as well, no one was as weird as Sheldon Cooper. His way of knocking on the door, not getting sarcasm, lack of empathy, humility & being honest to the point of being rude have made people fall in love with the character. Like Joey in Friends, Barney in HIMYM, Sheldon was the character who was the fan favorite. It was Sheldon who was the show's USP & the reason why viewers kept coming back for more. It was he who had all the punchlines. It comes as no surprise that the makers of the show, decide to milk the hit character. Expectations were high from the spin off, which was a prequel to the hit show. The show gave viewers a glimpse about the growing up years of Sheldon Cooper. Iain Armitage has been cast as the 9 yr old child prodigy with a genius level IQ. His family consists of a loving mother, a brother - George who is repulsed by him, a sports coach dad & a fraternal twin sister - Missy. The first episode has Sheldon join High School in his elder brother class, thanks to him skipping four grades. His exploits lead to unsavoury situations for his coach dad & brother. Goes without saying that all his teachers & classmates hate him because of his lack of humility, snitching on everyone & his condescending attitude towards others. It pains us to say that while we are huge fans of the original, we were totally disappointed by the prequel. Firstly the casting of Young Sheldon is totally off the mark. Iain Armitage is wrongly cast for the titular role. While he does try his best given his tender age, he is not able to do justice to the role. He doesn't convince us that he is the "Young Sheldon". The jokes lack punch & sound dull. The situations Sheldon gets into are not humorous. While Big Bang Theory has funny one liners a dime a dozen you will have to really look for a good joke in Young Sheldon. There is no laugh track in the show. But the show does have a Sheldon track voiced by Jim Parsons. While we generally watch the entire season before posting a review, we just saw the first 3 episodes in this case, before concluding that this show just doesn't work for us. We really wanted to like the show, but we just couldn't. Would recommend this show only to die hard Sheldon fans.

This show is almost as good as the Big Bang Theory.
The writers must have lived in Texas to delist it so accurately, something which rarely happens.
The best part is the no Social Justice preaching in this show- and it actually shows Christians as good people !!!!!!!!!
Update. I guess showing Christians in a good light was too much to believe. They removed a third of the show,s cast in one episode and dumped the church after making ALL the church members evil. Now it is just a soap opera about the family.

Sheldon is just obnoxious. As a kid I want to jump through the TV and spank him until he learns how not to be a brat.

It's a bit sad that children with high IQ make people around them at a loss. If Big Bang uses comedy to resolve this, then the spin-off drama allows the audience to truly see how difficult it is for such a child to grow up, especially when the family is in financial difficulty. Parents clearly know that their child is a genius, but they can only do so much if they work hard. How to train him so as not to delay him may have been the most distressing thing for Sheldon's family when he was young. The young actors are really good at acting. The genius has been different since he was a child. He has twin sisters with high emotionalintelligence, a doting mother, a cold-faced and warm-hearted father, an arrogant brother, and the cutest grandma ~ This family The people are really cute and the laughter is constant. I am looking forward to the second season. Compared to The Big Bang Theory, this one is closer to life.
