This documentary marks the first time any footage from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) has been remastered in high definition. The filmmakers worked with CBS Digital to remaster thirty minutes of the original film negatives, and also reproduced a portion of the main battle sequence from Sacrifice of Angels (1997). The filmmakers have stated a goal of this project is to convince CBS to remaster Deep Space Nine in high definition.

This movie was released the year before the passing of Rene Auberjonois (Odo) and Aron Eisenberg (Nog).
As of 2021, neither Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) nor Star Trek: Voyager (1995) have been released in high definition. As a result, this documentary and Birthright, Part I (1993) are the only official releases to show the interior and exterior of Deep Space Nine in high definition.
Avery Brooks declined to participate in the documentary. The interview footage of Brooks that appears is reused from Avery Brooks (2013).
