The students of Monster High make a video to express their love for the band, though they can not avoid some bickering among their ranks. The band arrives at Monster High before the results are announced, giving a surprise performance.

    Some girls of Monster High perform at a fashion show, as part of an annual charity event. The mummy girl Cleo De Nile impresses the crowd with her performance. She then has a brief conversation with her main rival, the werewolf girl Clawdeen Wolf. Cleo decides to sabotage Clawdeen's performance, by using a spotlight to simulate the effect of the full moon on werewolves. The entranced Clawdeen howls on stage, improvises a dance routine, and is surprisingly self-confident. She wins the admiration of Draculaura and Frankie Stein, and the adoration of the audience. By the time Clawdeen returns to her senses, she finds the entire crowd cheering for her. Cleo is frustrated because she unwittingly helped her rival.

The cheer-leading captain Cleo De Nile is not impressed by Frankie as a candidate member, but Lagoona Blue and Draculaura find Frankie to be exceptional. Everyone else accepts Frankie as a new member of the squad, while Frankie herself is surprised. Her athletic display was not intentional, but she decides to join the squad anyway.

Deuce informs him that the petrification effect typically lasts for a few hours, though there are exceptions.

Lagoona realizes that she has lost the book which she needs for the study session, and feels disappointed. Gill returns the lost book to her. It contains a note from him, asking Lagoona on a date.

At the last second, Ghoulia writes down all her answers at super-speed. Clawdeen can neither read her answers, nor write them down at a similar speed. Clawdeen is aware that she failed the test.

She decides to prank the vampire girl, and volunteers to apply the make-up on Draculaura's face. She intentionally gives a horrific appearance to Draculaura, then sends her to Heath. Heath has weird tastes in girls, and actually likes Draculaura's new look. He offers his arm to the vampire girl, and they walk away together. Frankie Stein compliments Cleo on her kindness. When left alone, Cleo stomps her foot in frustration. She accidentally helped Draculaura instead of hurting her.

Frankie is increasingly miserable, until Ghoulia Yelps places the neck bolts back in the correct positions. Frankie gives a big hug to Ghoulia, thanking her friend for watching her back. They both fail to notice Cleo de Nile, who is still attached to her locker and is calling for help.

He always forces the students to ditch the books and run laps, turning them into a sweaty mess. The trio decide to hide from him, and they convince a reluctant Frankie Stein to join them. The coach keeps chasing them for quite a while, but can not speak as he has choked on his whistle. He eventually finds them hiding in the bell tower, and tells them that they are excused from study hall to prepare for their yearbook photos. The girls are exhausted, and their hair is messy due to all the running. The yearbook ends up depicting them in embarrassing photos.

Her friends provide her with an earpiece, telling her to follow Draculaura's instructions on ways to woo him. Ghoulia either misunderstands Draculaura's instructions or performs them in awkward ways, confusing Slo Mo. Ghoulia decides to get rid of the earpiece and to express herself naturally. Slo Mo likes her, and they walk away while holding hands. Draculaura comments that she has no actual experience in dating.

    Frankie Stein eats a supposedly cursed snack, and a pimple appears on her pretty face. Cleo de Nile takes an embarrassing photo of her, and three other students laugh at her. Frankie still has the support of her friends, but she decides to wear a paper bag over her head to hide the pimple. The bag also hides her ears, and causes a hearing problem for her. She can not understand what her friends are saying to her. When Frankie removes the bag, she discovers that the pimple is gone. Ghoulia Yelps reveals that she had applied a blemish cream to the pimple when she briefly touched Frankie in the bathroom. At that moment, Cleo screams in horror. She had eaten a dose of the same cursed snack, and her entire face is covered in pimples. Ghoulia places another paper bag on Cleo's head, and it is now Cleo's turn to have hearing problems.

Draculaura chastises them with a Shakespeare-inspired monologue about mercy. Draculaura ends up cast in the role that her friends wanted, though she was not actually competing. Cleo and Clawdeen watch her performance from the audience seats, while severely injured from their fight. Clawdeen is walking with a crutch, while Cleo is using a wheelchair.

Frankie uses her detached hand to subject Hackington to non-stop tickling, leaving him in no condition to control the classroom. Frankie finds a jar full of detached eyeballs and throws one to Cleo De Nile's head. The students enthusiastically engage in an eyeball-throwing fight, giving Lagoona enough time to rescue the frogs. Later, Lagoona turns the girls' bathroom into a new habitat for the frogs. Disgusted female students flee the bathroom.

    Cleo De Nile and Frankie Stein accidentally bump into each other in the hallway. One of Cleo's bandages gets wrapped around one of Frankie's neck bolts. Cleo tries to disentangle herself, and accidentally sends the neck bolt flying. It lands on an ancient statue and breaks it. The two girls are called to the office of the strict Headmistress Bloodgood (a headless horsewoman) for the first time, and fear her punishment. When Bloodgood asks for an explanation of the accident, Cleo narrates a false story which places the entire blame on Frankie. Frankie tries to protest, but finds herself congratulated by Bloodgood. The statue served as a prison for the long-missing teacher Irene Maiden, and Frankie set her free by breaking the statue. Frankie is happy to be receiving praise instead of punishment. Cleo tries to claim part of the credit, though Bloodgood is not listening to her claims.

    Monster High is facing a series of bad luck incidents, since "Friday the 13th" and "October 31st" strangely coincided this year. Deuce Gorgon encounters a black cat, and then has his own powers turned against him by a mirror. He is left petrified. Lagoona Blue informs her friends that the bad luck will last until 3 PM, meaning that they will have to endure 6 hours of misfortune. Cleo De Nile informs her friends that she brought a protective amulet with her. It is supposed to protect its wearer and the wearer's companions. Frankie asks about the location of the amulet, and Cleo says that Ghoulia Yelps is carrying it for her. At that moment, Cleo and her friends realize that Ghoulia is not standing beside them. The girls can see Ghoulia walking alone in the distance, and try to catch up with her. Rain and storm start inside the school, and the girls are struck by lightning. As they observe Ghoulia, they see the zombie girl tampering with the school's clock. Ghoulia moves the clock's hands forward to 3 PM, ending the bad luck wave prematurely. The girls starts conversing on whether the amulet fits with Cleo's outfit.

    Frankie Stein and Lagoona Blue view various exhibits at the school's science fair. They are impressed with a miniature volcano which contains miniature monsters. Then they notice a machine which produces green fuel (biofuel) from trash. The duo are certain that the inventor is Ghoulia Yelps, but Cleo De Nile claims that this is her science project. She points to a decorated armchair and explains that she wants to win that throne. Lagoona tells Cleo that it is not a throne, but she fails to convince the mummy girl. The girls notice a sad-looking Ghoulia, whose project is to examine the effects of water on toilet paper. They quickly figure that Cleo forced Ghoulia to switch projects with her. They tell Ghoulia that she should stand up for herself, but the zombie girl seems resigned to her fate. Cleo wins the fair's trophy for her project, but instead runs to the "throne" and sits on it. Lagoona explains that the armchair is part of her science project, a re-hydration chamber. The chamber is activated with a simple control mechanism, and Lagoona hands it over to Ghoulia. Ghoulia gladly dunks Cleo in the chamber's water, as a form of payback. She waits for Cleo to resurface, then repeats the process. An amused Frankie comments that hopefully Cleo is wearing her waterproof mascara, because Ghoulia is likely to keep doing this for the rest of the day.

Clawdeen is excited to learn that vampires are shape-shifters and can turn into bats, though the book says that it is an ability which vampires gain as they age. The vampire girl Draculaura is asked whether she has that ability, and she is too embarrassed to admit that she never learned it. Draculaura heads into the belfry to try to master the skill, and she accidentally disturbs the rest of a real bat. While Draculaura falls asleep, the bat encounters Clawdeen and Frankie Stein. They think that the bat is a transformed Draculaura, and start hanging out with it. They feed the bat, they give it a make-over, and they allow it to take a multiple-choice test in Draculaura's place. When the real Draculaura returns, her friends are enthusiastic and she learns that she got the only A in class for the test. She is clearly confused, and she fails to notice that the bat is flying above her head.

    Clawdeen Wolf tells Lagoona Blue that despite her recent leg injury, she is determined to run and win the next track event. Cleo De Nile overhears part of that conversation (the running and winning part), and incorrectly figures that Clawdeen is a rival candidate for the Scream Queen election. An event which was previously a single-candidate election, with Cleo as the only candidate. Cleo decides to use a smear tactic, spreading a rumor that Clawdeen is infested with carnivorous fleas and that she will have to drop out of the race. She texts that message to Draculaura, counting on the vampire girl's love for gossip to spread the rumor. Draculaura texts the message to Frankie Stein, and Frankie texts the message to most of the other students. But they have both unwittingly changed the original text in an apparent game of "chinese whispers". Clawdeen easily wins the election thanks to an apparent viral campaign. The modified text was instead praising her, and offering an election promise to voters. Clawdeen is happy, but tells Cleo that she was not even an official candidate. Cleo starts figuring that her plan backfired.

    The track team practices at the gym, and the fire elemental Heath Burns tries to show off for the girls. The girls think that he is conceited and criticize his arrogance. Clawdeen Wolf claims that she is a better runner than Heath. Heath claims that he can defeat her with minimal effort in a race, because girls are too delicate for track. He ignores Clawdeen''s warning that he chose the wrong day to challenge her. Heath sets the rules for their race, and decides that the loser will be condemned to clean the Pit of Horror. Heath brags about his supposedly easy victory to Clawd Wolf (Clawdeen's older brother), only to hear from Clawd that he chose the wrong day for such a contest. Heath is puzzled by the ominous response, but proceeds with the race. Draculaura and Lagoona Blue then open the curtains and reveal that there is a full moon in the sky. As a werewolf, Clawdeen is empowered by the moonlight. She howls at the moon, and then runs at super speed. She easily outclasses Heath. Sometime later, Heath is trying to clean the Pit of Horror while intimidated by a gigantic monster. Clawdeen, Draculaura, and Lagoona laugh as they observe his torment.

    The vampire girl Draculaura reads her horoscope, and it supposedly predicts that she will meet the perfect guy within this day. But there is a deadline for this prediction and it is about to expire with the end of the school day. Draculaura notices a guy in a letter jacket which may fit the description, but he seems to be in a hurry. Draculaura's friends try various ways to prevent him from leaving. Cleo De Nile then has the mysterious boy gaze into the eyes of her boyfriend, Deuce Gorgon. The boy is petrified instantly. Later, Draculaura has fun by narrating her experiences to the petrified boy, in a one-sided conversation. She is glad to have found such a good listener.

    The mummy girl Cleo De Nile is frustrated. She studied hard for her paper, and covered all the work needed. But she was graded with B+ for her work, instead of an A. Her friends remind her that the overly strict teacher Mr. Rotter never grades anyone with an A, but Cleo is determined to change that. She has brought with her a magical idol from Ancient Egypt which grants its user the power of persuasion. Her polite request for Mr. Rotter to reconsider her grading fails,. but then the idol puts him under her control and forces him to grade Cleo with an A. Her friends are worried because such magical items are usually cursed. Cleo later uses the idol's powers to open a way for herself and her friends through a crowded hallway. Cleo proceeds to use the idol to get favors which she never earned, such as forcing Headmistress Bloodgood to erase their homework assignment and forcing her fellow students to serve her lunch. Her friends are still convinced that using this magic will backfire. Cleo eventually tosses the idol into her school locker, where it starts glowing red. Cleo is suddenly zapped with a red bolt of magical energy, and she becomes completely bald. Realizing what has happened, she screams in anguish. Her voice shatters glass.

    As an assignment in Mr. Hackington's class, pairs of students are tasked with taking care of eggs for a week. It is a test of their parenting skills. The sea monsters Lagoona Blue and Gillington "Gil" Webber are told not to partner with each other, as Hackington explains that there is a negative stereotype that all sea monsters are bad parents. Lagoona and Gil are offended, and decide to prove that the stereotype is false. Throughout the week, the young couple makes an extra effort to keep their egg safe and warm. At the end of the week, Hackington locates a crack at the couple's egg and gleefully fails them. But then the teacher realizes that the egg is about to hatch. His laboratory assistant informs Hackington that he chose fresh gargoyle eggs for this assignment. A baby gargoyle emerges from the egg, and proceeds to attack Hackington. Lagoona and Gil proudly note that their egg was the only one which hatched, indicating that they are better parents than their classmates.
