This was the one film I wanted to see the most at SXSW and I was lucky enough to see the world premier and left more than pleased. Jon Bernthal really explodes on screen and you can feel the joy he gets from pushing his brothers buttons in the most entertaining way possible. These two have real, believable chemistry and brought something both familiar and unexpected while delivering a story that isn't the same ole buddy trope the way other films seem to struggle. Jon's comic relief blends perfectly with Ben's robotic, emotionlessness. It feels like anything can and will happen at any moment...and it does! I hope we see these two characters together again sooner than later!

I saw an early screening of The Accountant 2. I went in with tempered expectations because a sequel after 9 years feels like a cash grab. To my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie for the entire runtime.
The selective action moments are just as hard-hitting. The characters are just as unique and enjoyable. The character dynamics may even surpass the original. And there are just as many story threads that reach satisfying conclusions. You can tell they put effort and care into this sequel.
The comedy, though?!?! There were some funny moments in the first one. But in the sequel, I laughed out loud so many times, to the point I would list "comedy" as a subgenre. And it's not "insert joke here"-type humor. It's organic to the story and characters.
I would say I still like the original a tiny bit better, especially with the originality and overall story. But with the comedy in the sequel, I scored them both the same. I was extremely satisfied leaving the cinema.

I was ready to hate The Accountant 2. The trailers made it look like just another over-the-top sequel that no one asked for-same character, louder explosions, and a plot that felt like it was pulled out of a hat.
But honestly? It surprised me.
Ben Affleck is back as Christian Wolff, and he's somehow even better this time around. The movie leans into what made the first one work-calculated action, smart pacing, and a character who's not your typical action hero. There's actually some depth here, and a bit more heart than I expected.
The story moves fast, the action scenes are tight, and there's just enough emotional weight to keep it from feeling hollow. Is it perfect? Nah. Some side characters could've used more love, and a couple twists felt a little too neat. But overall, it's a solid sequel that doesn't just cash in-it builds on what came before.
Don't let the previews fool you. The Accountant 2 is definitely worth a watch.

Okay. "The Accountant 2" is one of the year's biggest surprises and one of 2025's best movies.
First, it's funny that it took almost the entire time Ben Affleck spent playing Batman for this sequel to come out. I thought I'd mention that. Affleck reprises Christian Wolff as if 2016 happened yesterday. Wolff is a man of ingenuity and dry wit, which Affleck emulates with gravitas.
It helps that this time, he teams up with his brother Brax, delightfully played by Jon Bernthal. Although they both play off each other incredibly well, Bernthal managed to outshine his brother pretty often. What can I say? He stole the show in the first installment and stole more of the spotlight here.
Before moving on, I should mention how I feel about the prior entry into this franchise. I liked it, but it has confusing stuff that takes me out of it. Also, I don't think Anna Kendrick's character worked for its story. Would you believe me if I said that this nine-years-later sequel has none of the issues I had with the original? I'm blown away by how well Bill Dubuque's screenplay improves and enhances this universe. Even when thinking about a potential plot hole, by the end, I remember a detail from earlier that explains it away. Nothing here perplexed or took me out of the movie, as I was always invested and intrigued. Additionally, I laughed a lot, something I don't think I could say about the original. The first didn't include much humor, but this one has many comedic elements that unexpectedly worked.
For the rest of the positives, a returning Gavin O'Connor did a solid directing job, and even though Affleck and Bernthal are the highlights, the rest of the cast performed nicely. The action was fantastic (I'd recommend seeing it in a Dolby Cinema), Seamus McGarvey's cinematography was exceptional, many outstanding scenes outside the action and comedy were present, and the 2-hour and 3-minute runtime didn't drag.
"The Accountant 2" blew me away. There was the potential for it to be superior to its predecessor, but it went beyond that by making for a wildly fun time at the movies.
Technically, the acting, directing, screenplay, and cinematography make the technical score a 10/10.
The enjoyment score: I felt the first was an 8/10, but the contrast between that and this sequel's quality is vast in the best ways possible. 10/10! It's not a years-later sequel for the sake of making one. It's a years-later sequel made to expand an immersive world richly. If you're a fan of the original, I have no doubt you'll see this follow-up, but if not, give it a chance! For my money, it's a must-watch!

This is the first time I've seen the sequel be as good or better than the first movie! Great plot and was very funny in in a lot of spots!
I would highly recommend that you go to see this movie. If you like the first one, you won't be disappointed!!!!
They must've put a long time in developing the script to the movie as they did s great job on continuing in the story line from the first movie! I totally recommend this one! I truly hope there'll be a third movie and make this a franchise. It was so good, I think I will see it again as it was so good I thinki I will see it multiple times . The movie action was excellent add even though it was kinda long time wise, it went quickly.
Great movie, go see it people!!

Finally a sequel that is as good, or better, than the 1st. Hope they make a 3rd. They left a possible story line open that I could see being similar to the last John Wick. That's just me and my imagination. It could be a complete action movie from start to finish.
This was one of the best movies we've seen this year. Great character building off of the first movie. Has quite a few heart felt moments, some unexpected comedy, and a lot of action. The chemistry between the brothers seems genuine, not forced or acted.
Glad they were able to get the same director and cast.
A must see for 2025. Would see again in the theater.

The Accountant 2 doubles down on the action and humor over the first film. It does however try to juggle too many subplots that are poorly connected, leading to a less coherent film and a lack of a singular, hateable villain.
On the plus side, making Jon Bernthal a co-lead this time was incredibly smart. He and Affleck have great chemistry and Bernthal's Braxton is both a lethal threat and downright hilarious. This is easily his best role since The Punisher.
Like the first film, action isn't the primary focus, with a lot of time spent on enjoyable character moments. But when the action does arrive, it really delivers. Depending on what the new Mission: Impossible has in store for us, the Juarez shootout in this film may go down as the best action sequence of the year.
Again, I wish more of the character development had been focused on the villains, so we'd have a central antagonist who seems like a real threat. Instead we get several boring micro-villains.
I also wish the writing and editing were working in better harmony to bring us a more coherent story.
But all that said, Affleck and Bernthal have charm to spare, the final act is awesome, and this is a decent follow up to the admittedly better first film. 7/10.

The Accountant 2 is everything fans could hope for and more! From the very first scene, it grabs you with intense action, sharp wit, and a story that's even more layered and compelling than the original. Ben Affleck once again delivers a masterclass performance, bringing depth, heart, and precision to Christian Wolff. The character development is rich, the pacing is spot-on, and the direction is tight and purposeful.
What really stands out is how the film balances complex financial intrigue with raw, emotional moments and high-octane sequences. It's not just a great action movie - it's smart, stylish, and full of surprises. The supporting cast also shines, with returning favorites and new faces that add even more intrigue and energy.
The Accountant 2 proves that sequels can not only match their predecessors but surpass them in every way. If you're looking for a film that's gripping, clever, and satisfying from start to finish, this is a must-watch. Bring on The Accountant 3 - we're ready!

7/10. The Accountant 2 serves as a worthy sequel. Leaning more into brotherly banter, tighter action, and plays into a lighter and humorous tone.
The plot and character arcs, much like the first, leave a lot to be desired. The story isn't as convoluted as the first but still gets murky. The villains are one dimensional, generic, and quite forgettable. Sadly, Anna Kendrick doesn't return.
The film heavily relies on bringing Jon Bernthal into a bigger role and it works. His strained relationship and funny lines with Affleck are the heart of the movie. Crazy stuff always happens when Bernthal and Affleck show up. Their actions scenes are fun to watch. They are brothers who are trying to get along and get past their messed up childhood trauma. This results in the humor being less dry; for better or worse.
Ben Affleck again does a splendid job in his role as a Aspergers man with his different tics and mannerisms. He is smart, nerdy, and a killing machine. Yes, the Hollywood portrayal of Asperger's is kind of cliché for the sake of the plot. Not all of us are genius computer hackers. Or killers for that matter. But the film did a respectable job with depicting the thinking, psyche, and social struggles on a personal level.
I think Ben got the weirdness down well by being around Matt Damon for too long. Haha, just kidding Matt, you're great. In the one trillion chance you read this, please don't be mad.
Thank you, Regal Cinemas, for showing this early on Tax Day. No, I didn't see this at a film festival but that would have been awesome. (Hint, hint). Ben Affleck awkwardly line dancing was very hilarious. Kudos to suggesting the band play a Metallica song.

*although not "totally" necessary it would be wise to watch the 1st film before this and even get a refresher as some character roles are from 1st and not really recapped
Good: Affleck/Bernthal's chemistry together with the team-up. Decent action. Some fun/comedy moments to be had
Bad: Introduction/Pacing/Writing
Overall: Movie starts off rough and confusing with not much of an introduction. As a movie that came out 9 years ago, it would have been wise to add some writing to recap some past events or character roles. Granted movie is set a few years after the 1st.
The movie is almost a copy/paste of the first one in terms of pattern/pacing/action just replacing Anna Kendrick's character with Bernthal
It has all the beats of the first, but with it comes some confusion/messy writing when going over details.
Mainly consisting of some nods to Afflecks accounting and condition/skills, a team-up with another person as they carry out a mission, and a big production action scene to end off the movie
If you're a fan of the 1st, you should probably give this a watch, but overall nothing new and exciting. Best element is the comradery between Affleck/Bernthal
Flat 3/5.

'The Accountant 2' takes what works so well in the first film and amps it up with a really great, dynamic screen chemistry between Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal. They play off of each other so well, and their scenes together are some of the best of the film. This time around it spends a little less time fully focused on Christian Wolff's special gifts as the forensic accountant by giving other gifted individuals time to shine while also playing up the great brother dynamic and Christian's want for some normalcy in his life. The story does take a slight backseat to the brother relationship, but plays out rather well in the end, leaving open the possibility of another film in the future.
In the end, 'The Accountant 2' gives us great action, good humor, and great performances for a film that's well worth the price of admission.
Brad: 8 Josh: 7.5 Final: 8.

It is understandable that studios want to make money by creating sequels especially if the first movie was successful. The task is difficult one-either go bigger and louder or continue the same with some twists. Both are seldom to succeed but Accountant 2 tries to go second route. This time, action feels bland and scrip is not as tight as in first movie. It suffers from identity crisis- is it a comedy, thriller or action ? One moment there are jokes and funny comments and next second somebody is getting shot by a sniper. Not much action either and last shootout sequence is as generic as possible. I think it is a missed opportunity to develop Accountant in something exiting and breath a new life into old characters.
Due to the severe bad language throughout this movie I will not be seeing this movie. When will movie companies, writers, directors, actors, actresses, and movie theatres learn that over 60% of the US is Christain and the majority of us will not see this movie due to its bad language. Movies and movie theaters would make more money if they would drastically reduce the bad language. We Christain's need to boycott these filth y movies. I saw "The Amateur" the other day and it was a great movie and had none of the bad language so great movies can be made without the bad language. Wake up movie supporters people.

Yes that is Math and not the other ... thing with an E in it .. so no pun intended. We are talking about the accountant after all ... this time you have his brother in a way bigger role ... which is great because I think Jon Bernthal is an amazing actor ... unfortunately the movie is lacking one major thing: a villain that holds our attention for the whole movie.
So what is the thing our main characters struggle with? Well the main villain is more for a female character to overcome ... our two male leads are looking to fill a void within ... and you might say the kind of succeed ... in overcoming odds and not just battling but winning against their own "weaknesses" ... family! You got to love them ... well hopefully, no matter what their job is ... and another unlikely pairing is being done.
The characters are well written - and maybe there was no room for this overarching villain ... there are weird scenes (that's my big brother) that are actually endearing ... even a scene where Jons character seems bewildered that another character is afraid of him ... well once we get to see the full picture, we fully understand her fear(s).
Jon has to connect - he is in denial. So this is as much a character piece as it is action (and a great action scene we are getting towards the end) ... so if you don't mind that this might seem aimless ... this is doing a great job in giving the characters you came to love (hopefully) a new home ... and some perspectives for the futures for those who survive it all ...

I was a big fan of the original Accountant film as it had some fantastic original ideas about people on the spectrum/autism that learned how to use them in really super cool ways.
Unfortunately, the sequel starts with one concept that feels like a bunch of different type of ideas bundled together around a rip off of Face Off but then it blends into a lethal weapon/90s brothers vigilante story that is probably the highlight of the film and carries it since both Ben Affleck and John B have some cool times together.
Go in with low expectations and don't feel bad about being confused about the secondary concept which might requires being on the spectrum to understand what the heck was the point of it, but it's still an entertaining film and the two main lead actors are a delight to watch,
hopefully this is the end of the Accountant series as it's lost its cool originality and instead feels like a first draft that could've been flushed out in a different manner esp since 8 years has transpired and this is the best idea the writers thought would merit a part 2.
The best part is Ben Affleck square dancing ha ha
7 stars for lead actors and the Airstream.

A perfect balance of action, comedy, buddy movie and expanding the characters archs and relationships. Loved the role of the school and the relationship between the brothers. They compliment each other in every way. Moving forward and doing what they do best with perfect timing. The plotline carries throughout the film and ties the character development together. Watch for details because they all come together at some point which makes it even more enjoyable! It feels good when the good guys win even if they are a little bad...someone has to hold evil ACCOUNTable. Really hope this is a trilogy.
