Special investigator Carla Pisani is also targeting "Capo" Zanchetti, who gambles in illegal poker games at night. The Mafia governor in Bolzano, Rossi, can't afford any trouble right now. He is under observation by Luca Rizzi, the "family's" devious accountant, and has to fear for his own life. In this dangerous constellation, Zanchetti and Rossi seem to be dependent on each other. A nerve-wracking game begins: Rossi now senses the opportunity to make the "Capo" submissive, and Zanchetti wants to put a stop to his activities. A bomb explosion literally blows up a secret Mafia meeting in Bolzano. A bodyguard of the hostess Giulia Santoro is killed, the angry bosses leave in a hurry. For the ambitious governor and her rival, the "Capo" Michele Lagagna, more is at stake than the billion-dollar business she has orchestrated. And Giulia absolutely has to find out who is behind the attack before Commissioner Sonja Schwarz does it. The interim chief of the Bolzano Police Department is just as unimpressed by the fact that there is considerable tension in her team, as is the stance of the anti-mafia agency DIA. By evaluating the explosives, Sonja comes across an unexpected lead that leads to unexplained attacks by an underground organization from the 1960s: the "South Tyrol Liberation Committee". This belonged to Robert Lanthaler, the father of the ex-police officer Sofia, who was exposed as a mafia informant. Inspector Jonas Kerschbaumer, who fears for her life, is enraged that his girlfriend is linked to the case. Sonja's affair from Bari also plays an opaque role: Riccardo Riello, DIA's undercover investigator, appears as Lagagna's driver in Bolzano. But can Sonja really trust him?

When "Capo" Sonja Schwarz finds a carefully discarded newborn on her doorstep in the morning and shortly afterwards the body of a young woman is discovered, an unusual criminal case begins. A DNA sample provides the sad certainty that the body is that of the young mother who appeared to have died falling off a mountain cliff. Sonja and her partner Jonas encounter shockingly little grief from Theresa Egger's strictly religious parents: Marianne and Josef Egger had rejected their daughter because of the illegitimate pregnancy. Could there be a motive for the crime? Who is the secret father? In order to understand the connections, Sonja sets her sights on the Sutterer community and the charismatic Franz de Billio. The inspector finds his dispute with a prospective priest, whom Sonja observes, just as suspicious as his harshness in dealing with dropouts. She soon begins to recognize conflicts that were fatal to the victim.
