  • I was initially in no mood of watching Dhadak since I was so in love with the original one and another reason was the direction and the production house. I knew I was digging into something which will be of on worth compared to Sairat. But the only thing which makes this mess watchable is the fresh pair: Ishaan and Jahnvi. They both've acted good in the movie especially Ishaan . He was brilliant just like his debut movie into the clouds and we can say Jahnvi was decent in serious situation although some of them were so rushed which just destroyed the essence of the scene from the original one or had no so essence. Just pale 1-D direction .And she was easy on eyes on lighter moments. Coming to the screenplay and direction both are very bad. I'm surprised that why Shashank Khaitan is even handed projects and something like the remake of an iconic movie... Why God why. The direction is not simply poor . There's nothing to talk about it and screenplay .. omg he just insulted the original one by changing some of the parts of it and making it too rushed , choppy and flat.. ughhh!!! Why ?? The supporting cast is not at all used well. The friends which played a major role in Sairat , they are reduced to just comical figures and side-kicked stalkers. Nothing else to talk about them. Summing this up , this movie is nothing like Sairat . Another Easily forgettable flick by Bollywood and a trashy remake only made watchable by the lead pair.

Nepotism can get film to this star kids but telnet is god gifted. Waste of time and money
  • Rating - 2.75/5

Positives: 1) Ishaan and Janhvi's Performances 2) Social Message 3) Music 4) Cinematography and Production Design

Negatives: 1) Clichéd and Formulaic Storyline 2) Mundane Screenplay 3) Unmenacing Antagonist

Summary: Overall, Dhadak had a significant message to share in the climax and the superstar kids Ishaan and Janhvi were a delight to watch. But, the generic storyline and the tedious screenplay made it nearly unwatchable as I found myself cringing and regret watching the majority of the film. Nevertheless, it's sad to see Bollywood still trying to beat a dead horse while South Indian Film Industry is busy exploring unorthodox love stories like Arjun Reddy.
  • Same old story, nothing new, "two lovers have biggest possible obstacles, and there's nothing important than love in life".
  • If you are a star kid, with experienced people from Film industry to guide you, shouldn't you star in a movie which at least makes some sense(at least script wise, if not acting wise)? It's like a part of a Masaan has been taken and powdered with usual useless waste. The trailer was bad but the film is even worse. Privilege can only take you this far.

Watch it at ur own risk. Had Sairat not released, it still would have done some business. But comparing this crap to SAIRAT, it's painful. Complete waste of money and time.
  • I am thankful that I did not have the good fortune of watching the 2016 Marathi sleeper hit Sairat before seeing Dhadak. From the venom spewing forth in the reviews of the latter, it appears that director Shashank Khaitan did the unspeakable in his temerity to remake a Hindi version. To tone down public ire, Shashank who has delivered the "....Ki Dulhania" twin hits (Humpty Sharma and Badrinath) I believe was forced to concede that 'he would be more careful in future when approaching subjects dealing with caste sensitivity.' Shashank's backtracking is sad. If the director has qualms about and becomes defensive about his offering, what faith will viewers have in his product? Nevertheless, I found Dhadak laudable on many levels: First, this rant on 'star kids' must cease. We know how inhibiting and heavy the mantle sits on debutants- many survive by luck or staying power, many just fade away. For the naysayers, perhaps they do not recall that Sridevi had a number of movies as a child artist before her first 'adult' role in "Moondru Mudichu" where she was supported by two stalwarts of Tamil cinema- Kamal Hassan and Rajnikanth. Compare that to Dhadak where her daughter Jhanvi debuts with a newbie Ishant. Second, kudos to Shashank's panache in capturing almost every shot in close up for Jhanvi and Ishant. Every nuance, twitch and emotion laid bare for the world to see. No hidden camera angles, no long shots. Third, the controlled understatement of the warring families was brilliant. No ranting / raving by the villains, no excessive violence and gore and no over the top hamming. If class/caste internecine strife required all these 'in-your-face' drama and trappings, thank your lucky stars that Dhadak has none of these. Fourth- breathtaking capture of the of the locales and the essence and flavour of Udaipur and Kolkata- well done! Fifth- the ending. Will hit you like a sledgehammer. Dhadak, perhaps a hackneyed plot, but done sensibly. Ishant as Madhukar will delight you and Jhanvi's nuanced character unfurls like the petals of a beautiful flower. Go watch it!

Such a cult movie SAIRAAT cut to mince by KJ ... Go n watch Sairaat once more than this Dhadak disaster...
  • I'm actually stunned by the low ratings this movie has received, though it has rightly proven to be a box office success. First of all, I will state I haven't seen Sairat. Maybe Sairat is much greater than this, but that doesn't undermine this movie! Furthermore, Sairat is a regional movie, it can't appeal to all audiences alike, like the way this does. Dhadak is a fantastic movie in it's own right. You feel for the characters right throughout. The film starts like a normal bollywood romance, a boy meets a girl, they fall in love....romance pursues. But it is the second half, where reality kicks in, is where the film soars. This movie required debutants, who are raw and unpolished. Even Sairat did that. Dhadak does that too. Jahnvi Kapoor and Ishan Khatter are not pros at acting, but thier raw unpolished performances make you believe in the characters. People are silly at making a fuss about nepotism as if they would've done it better than them. We celebrate the likes of Ranbir Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, and suddenly now we scream about nepotism! Just watch the movie, and enjoy it guys! Another plus point of the film is great music and Cinematography. Udaipur and Kolkata are beautifully captured in the two halves. Overall I definitely recommend Dhadak. Ignore the haters. These days it's simply cool to bash bollywood, and go gaga over anything hollywood. It's a trend. Everyone judges movie even before watching them. Rating- 8/10
  • Warning: Spoilers
It's perhaps one of the most realistic films ever made in Bollywood. It is apart from the usual happy endings which many love stories fall for. It is not even Romeo and Juliet but a film with an excellent well maintained finish. The film as said has so much to explore as it beautifully portrays the effects of decisions made in haste and love. Instead of giving rise to a healthy life free from danger, it maintains that and gives the ending it deserved. The characters are based in Udaipur. Ishan Khattar manages to verse in the local language and give a local touch but Jaanvi fails at that aspect and her dialect feels a lot tampered. Her eyes can be of good significance but many a times they fail to produce the effects they should though the last scene was carefully done.

India's division of caste and ignorance is eminent in the drama. One cannot but have a regard for the screenplay. However there are times when direction seems loose. Also, the background score isn't really much to appreciate since it doesn't get you hung to the feelings of the characters. Suspenseful music might have added to the intensity but there is no music as such. Overall, if the few things would have been cared for it would have been a perfect watch but it still very well makes for a good watch.
  • Just plain shut ruined Sairat! Jahanvi Kapoor is awful and Ishan is average.

Movie is not at all upto mark...and Janhvi Kapoor acting is not at all good....she needs to work hard so much...
  • Just because actors are star's kids not make them a great actor. Worthless movie. Don't watch it if you respect your time.
  • Creepy acting, useless adaptation of original movie , time waste movie.
  • An entertaining movie with an interesting plot of young love birds. A different angle to their struggle against their parents & society .

However it could have ended on a positive note instead of the sudden shocking climax.
  • I've been on IMDB for almost a decade and here is my first movie review. Just watched it now because I haven't heard of it earlier. And I do not consider it to be overhyped because of a star cast. I stopped reading a bollywood movie reviews, because all that most of them do is overrate a films that don't deserve any attention at all. Now I come here and all I see is a hate. I have never seen so much hate for a movie that actually does have some sence in it. Only because an actress (who BTW has done a lovely job for a debut) is Sri Devi's doughter. Come on you all, your hate for this one is so obvious, most of you don't even explain the 1/10 rating at all! Shame on you! At least for a memory of Sri Deviji you could have some respect! Bollywood is not in a condition where u can underrate a decent cinema because of a star cast. Go watch Bharat or Zero and rate it 10/10, that is a cinema you deserve!

So here is what I can say about Dhadak. Both of the actors has done a good job. It will never be a masterpiece of some sort but it does have a charm in it. The music is touching. The supporting cast is good. It was really funny at some parts. Yes it does have a cliche spots, but they do not ruin the message it carries. Do not expect anything out of it, just enjoy it as it gets. I do not want to continue so I don't get to the spoilers. To all of you who didn't see this I recommend to ignore the haters (who are mad because they didn't get to be a Raj Kapoor grandchild))) and enjoy it. I've seen many bad bollywood films, I mean MANY! but,,, this isn't the case! Karan Johar surprised me this time. It gave a drop of hope for his upcoming works.

Artificial expression in every frame. This is what happens when industry is full of dynasty people and these dynasty junks are pushing more dynasty junks.

I've seen sairat and it's awesome, but this one is also not that bad. It's good. Everyone should watch this.
  • Total waste of time, instead go for any movie but don't go for this. ! you will come out of the hall abusing and cursing yourself only.
  • All those who are not appreciating this movie, seem to me against love stories like this one, which is ridiculous, I think people in India have problem with girls from remote areas fall in love, so they have made propaganda to devalue this movie. As far as, the acting of both the debut actors is concerned, I loved their acting. I don't understand and don't find any sense in peoples' comments against the acting of Janhvi Kapoor, may be she is being targeted for something, otherwise she has given her best and I found her very good for the role she played. The first half has shown an innocent love and is a fine entertainment, in second half, story gets serious, but I can relate the whole story as well as the acting, so it is a thumbs up!
  • Finally watched #Dhadak. I don't think it was meant to be Sairat. It is an adaptation and is an engaging and well made Bollywood film. The young lead pair is very good. You need that kind of youth to make infatuation credible. Liked it. It stands on its own.

I do think Shashank Khaitan has in fact matured as a filmmaker with Dhadak. I had liked his previous two films too. This is his best.

Also what is the point of reviewing Dhadak for what it is not. It is not Sairat. Gauge it for what it is. There is no point in the filmmaker making a frame by frame copy. This is his vision and his film.
