Exclusive: Peter Gadiot (Queen of the South) and Kim Matula (LA to Vegas) are set as series regulars opposite Ben Rappaport and Alexandra Chando in NBC’s untitled drama pilot based on the award-winning Dutch series Adam & Eva. The pilot is written by The Village creator Mike Daniels and will be directed by Stephanie Laing.
The project, described as a funny and heartfelt drama, chronicles the epic love and lives of two complete strangers, Adam (Rappaport) and Eva (Chando), whose multiple run-ins begin to defy coincidence, leading both to believe in fate. The show breaks the mold by pairing a serialized, stand-up-and-cheer romantic comedy with the wildly diverse and often unexpected human stories of anyone who finds themselves six degrees from Adam and Eva.
Gadiot will play Felix, an ambitious fine art and fashion photographer whose depth and talent are an irresistible draw for Eva. Matula portrays Monica, a Midwestern...

NBC has unveiled its fall premiere game plan for the 2019-20 TV season, and Season 17 of The Voice will kick things off on Monday, Sept. 23 — minus longtime coach Adam Levine, of course.
The long-running singing competition will set the stage for Jimmy Smits’ Bluff City Law, which is one of just three new shows being unfurled by the Peacock this fall. (Remember, Manifest Season 2 isn’t scheduled for takeoff until midseason.) Among NBC’s other fresh fall fare, you have Bradley Whitford and Anna Camp’s Perfect Harmony and Kal Penn’s Dreamer sitcom Sunnyside.

Directly after graduating from Juilliard in 1982, Lorraine Toussaint began rehearsals for her first paid acting gig, as Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare & Company’s production of “Macbeth.” After eight years of classical theater training, the Trinidad-born, New York-raised performer found herself among seasoned professionals like Kristin Linklater and Tim Saukiavicus, who mentored her as she entered the city’s Shakespearean heyday. Toussaint’s first mention in Variety was on Aug. 4, 1982, when she was cast in the Scottish Play; her first on-screen role was in the 1983 telefilm “The Face of Rage.” Among Toussaint’s many credits are Vee in Season 2 of “Orange Is the New Black” and a starring role in NBC’s current “The Village.” She also co-starred in Julia Hart’s superhero movie “Fast Color,” and plays Flo Kennedy in the yet-to-be-released “The Glorias: A Life on the Road,” the Gloria Steinem biopic directed by Julie Taymor.

NBC has cut a trio of freshman series.

NBC has canceled freshman series “Abby’s,” “The Village,” and “The Enemy Within,” TheWrap has learned.
The trio of shows (two dramas and a comedy) all debuted at midseason and had been the only programs still sitting in limbo at the network, which made most renewal and cancellation decisions ahead of its upfront presentation to advertisers earlier this month — and canceled “A.P. Bio” last week.
Executive produced by Josh Malmuth and Mike Schur, the sitcom “Abby’s” centers on the titular unlicensed bar that Abby (Natalie Morales) runs in her backyard, which “is the perfect gathering place for locals to find camaraderie and sanctuary.”
“Abby’s” is averaging a 0.6 rating in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic and 2.4 million total viewers, according to the “most current” data from Nielsen, which includes a week’s worth of delayed viewing where available.

NBC has made a decision on its new midseason series, comedy Abby’s and dramas The Village and The Enemy Within. All three have been canceled, joining sophomore midseason comedy, A.P. Bio, which was axed last Friday.
NBC left the future of Abby’s, A.P. Bio, The Enemy Within and The Village undecided heading into its upfront presentation earlier this month.
“The next season’s schedule is fluid, we want to give those shows a chance to fulfill their run and we’ll take another look at them then,” NBC Co-Chairmen George Cheeks said on NBC’s May 12 upfronts call. “Remember we program 52 weeks a year so there are a lot of slots.”
The decision is not surprising as neither series has been a critical or commercial breakout. All are from Universal TV; The Village and The Enemy Within just wrapped their runs; Abby’s has a couple of more episodes.

“Has [insert name of broadcast TV show currently in limbo here] been canceled or renewed?” That’s the question on many viewers’ minds now that upfronts season is over.
While Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS and The CW have all announced their 2019-20 programming schedules, some of those slates don’t reveal everything, meaning the statuses of just under half a dozen broadcast TV shows are still up in the air.
And look, we can accept the fact that not every series will be saved like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” famously was last season — and not every show should be. But come on, networks — minus ABC, Fox and The CW, who have already axed or renewed everything on their lists — viewers need to hear one way or another whether their favorite programs will be returning this fall, especially for ones that have a crazy-devoted fanbase.
Below are the five shows we’re still awaiting decisions on.

There will be no third season for NBC comedy series A.P. Bio, executive produced by Seth Meyers. Creator/exec producer Mike O’Brien revealed the news on Twitter.
“I’m intensely sad to announce that AP Bio will be ending after this season,” he wrote Friday “This has been my favorite project of my life and that’s because of the amazing writers, cast and crew. As most canceled shows probably feel, I think we were just hitting our stride and everyone was still loving the work, so this is very hard. We have 4 left to air and they’re 4 of my favorites.”
A.P. Bio was among several NBC midseason bubble series whose fate was not decided before the upfronts, along with freshmen Abby’s, The Enemy Within and The Village. Neither is expected to return next season.

NBC’s 9-11 Pm The Voice finale won its time slot in all key metrics Wednesday, including an 83% edge in the demo and a 1.7M-viewer margin over CBS’ premiere of Blood & Treasure. But Voice fell markedly compared to last season’s spring finale
Heading into the singing competition’s season wrapper, NBC’s The Village season finale was its most watched episode since its March 19 series premiere, which had enjoyed a This Is Us lead-in.
Action/adventure series Blood & Treasure fumbled half of CBS’ NCIS season finale demo ratings and more than half its total viewers. The NCIS wrap beat its combined competition by more than 1.5 million viewers, and its closest demo competitor in the slot by six tenths. But it shed a tenth of the year-ago’s closer demo, becoming the franchise’s lowest to date.

Is anyone else still crying?
The Village Season 1 Episode 10 came for our feelings with an installment that was full of sentamentality and good old-fashioned sweetness.
It was an hour of ups and downs, but mostly ups. There was nothing to dislike about the way things came to an end this season.
Unless you're a Nick and Sarah fan.
But even then, can you be upset at her for taking a chance with Ethan?
You can't turn away a man who stays at the hospital waiting for you all night after only one shortened date, And shows up the next day with food.
The guy has some serious game.
Speaking of game, Enzo knocked his proposal to Gwendolina out of the park.

Although it seems idealized, Lorraine Toussaint finds “The Village,” NBC‘s new drama about the residents of a Brooklyn apartment complex, to be pretty accurate. “I’ve lived in New York City on-and-off for the last 40 years,” she explains, “and I’ve lived in a building very similar to this. On some level, this kind of building feels like a coming home for me.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

With Upfronts Week 2019 nigh, NBC as is tradition was the first broadcast-tv network to announce its schedule for the fall TV season. Conspicuously missing from the lineup are… any dramatic changes. With the exception of its Monday and Thursday skeds, NBC’s fall game plan looks a lot like last fall’s game plan.
Jimmy Smits’ legal drama Bluff City Law snagged the cushy post-Voice perch on Monday, bumping previous occupant Manifest to midseason (where, unlike in Season 1, it will enjoy an uninterrupted run).
Little Big Shots will return at midseason with a new host; Melissa McCarthy has been tapped to replace Steve Harvey.

“SmackDown Live” Superstar Kevin Owens will “Fight Anyone,” according to his WWE merch. At the upcoming pay-per-view “Money in the Bank,” he’ll battle WWE Champion Kofi Kingston, whom Owens turned on rather quickly after a short-lived alliance.
Once again a heel (the pro-wrestling term for a bad guy), K.O. tells TheWrap that wearing the white hat — and at times, a New Day unicorn antler — was probably a bit too short-lived for his liking.
“I wish I would have been able to stay on the other side of the fence a little longer, to be honest,” Owens told us ahead of Tuesday’s “SmackDown” episode. “I don’t think anybody’s really seen me as a babyface ever, or, like, the way that I envision myself being. The 100 returned for its sixth season on Tuesday night, and the sci-fi drama posted 0.9 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in the demo.

Over on NBC, The Village perked up to 4.4 million viewers and a 0.7 rating.

April TV ratings bring May cancellations — but sometimes last-minute renewals, too.
Mid-spring marks the time of year when at-risk shows must sweat out their fates — sometimes right up until networks announce their fall schedules to advertisers at their upfront presentations in May. Optimism has its place in Hollywood, but it ranks somewhere between actual advertising money and the feel-good awards that can sometimes keep low-rated shows alive.
Generally, top-performing shows from each broadcast network have already received their votes of confidence for another season, and the worst performers were snuffed out months ago. But then there are the bubble shows, which could really go either way.
Their fates come down to lots of hard-to-quantify factors: momentum, reviews, how much they cost to make, how much money the people who watch them make, syndication situations, diversity, and what networks have to replace them. And then there are executives’ personal tastes. It’s part science,...

1969 may be a year to remember, but not many ABC viewers were moved to relive the historic Moon landing during the debut of the network’s six-part docuseries. Combined with a lackluster second week from new sitcom “Bless This Mess,” ABC settled for a logjam tie as one of the night’s four runners-up in primetime ratings.
NBC won Tuesday night among adults 18-49 with its new “Village”-then-“Voice” lineup, but even those Nielsen returns were pretty soft. CBS was No. 1 in total viewers despite airing mostly repeats.
