I really, really loved this movie. As a woman who has been a person of size (POS) since I was a child I could relate to Juliette's struggles. In the beginning of the movie there is a scene where Juliette breaks the fourth wall and stares into the camera. I felt that look. I have given that look. That look told me that this was going to be a great movie. I remember what gym was like, and I had a gym teacher who was just like that.
The movie is not all about Juliette's weight of course. At it's heart it's a well told coming of age story, a film like Eighth grade, where you get to see what life is like for a young teenager. I liked it more because I for once could relate to the main character so much, but it's an entertaining and well acted movie regardless of my personal connection to it.
The only complaint I have is that Juliette supposedly realizes that she is larger when she is about 14 years old. That is simply not beliavble, and it annoyed me a lot. We know that POS are singled out and told that we are larger from a very young age. Still, I'm willing to forgive that one flaw.
I have already reckommended this movie to quite a few people, and I will buy it when it becomes available on DVD. I look forward to seeing more projects from this director, and several of the actors.
