  • That should be the title of the show because it has nothing to do with resident evil.

Unlike a lot of the reviewers here, I did not watch this with any expectation of resemblance of games or the original movies. I was just looking for good entertainment. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.

First of all, the teenage drama, and my god is the drama bad! After couple of episodes, I was skipping every scene with the teenagers in it. Secondly, the ending is just disastrous. I would have probably given this a 5 star but the last 2 episodes are so bad that they probably average a 2.

I should have checked the ratings before I dove into this one but the stupid "No. 1 in the US" for a few days now got me. Thought it must be good. Unfortunately, it is not. Save your time and don't watch this.
  • You're in a restaurant. You think you're gonna treat yourself and order a nice and juicy filet steak. The waiter comes and slams a lone hot dog on your dish and calls it a day.

Had you ordered a hot dog, you might have been kind of satisfied, but now you're just confused AND unhappy.

Thats what its like to watch this show. It has basically nothing to do with Resident Evil, aside from names. Even less than the Anderson movies.

We've got two main characters. Billie and Jade. Billie is actually a little bit more likeable than Jade, who is an insufferable teenager that just hates everything because she was forced to move. Okay - a trope we've had a lot in the past, but Jade doesn't change. She has no revelation that changes her perspective or anything, she just stays insufferable until the very end. Billie cannot really decide if she wants to be the nice sister or the bitchy sister, so she just jumps between those two.

There is a second timeline in the future where Jade is researching zombies, but its basically just a row of monster attacks to mix up the monotony of the past timeline. The future feels like it has no direction other than action and Jade kind of trips over what she is looking for while fighting monsters, all while the show can't really decide if it wants to be funny, tragic or just popcorn.

All in all the show would've been at least partially enjoyable if it didn't have anything to do with Resident Evil, which is why it still got a 3 stars from me. Just watch it with the idea in mind that its completely original and you can at least enjoy it for what it is - a mediocre at best show with subpar writing.

That being said, I'm a big fan of Lance Reddick and I think he was awfully wasted in this show.
  • The only thing this show has in common with the games is the name... this a crappy cash grab to lure fans of the game like me in.

This show has more of a mad max/day of the dead franchise feel than anything to do with the resident evil games.

After 26 years since the first game came out hollyood still can not get this franchise right. Why is it so hard when there are so many great stories from the game! Just follow one of them...geez.

Netflix seems incapable of making anything decent lately and no wonder people are cancelling their subscriptions in droves.. stranger things seems to be the only thing decent on there these days.
  • This show might have the most annoying and insufferable main characters that has ever existed. They literally built an entire show around obnoxious teenage brats. Absolutely the worst show I've seen in years.

Netflix is insane to release something like this. They turned a sci-fi show about zombies into a High school soap-opera for 12yr old girls. They cut 99% of their original audience and gained nothing in return.
  • This show was cancelled by Netflix after 1 season. No surprise at all... what an awful show. This show might have done immense damage to the franchise. Not a single episode was good enough to keep interest in the show. Better save yourself some time and not watch it.

Script, acting, direction everything sucks. What a waste of subscribers' money. They could have spent all this money on some better show and material. This show just is t Resident Evil material.

Bottom line: waste of money and time. Resident Evil Franchise down the drain... some consolation is that Netflix realize this crap and did not commit to make another painful and wasteful season.
  • Much like some others, my previous review got removed as some clearly got triggered, despite adhering to community guidelines. Thankfully this show got cancelled due to the consensus that this a simply an objectively low quality production.

The intellectual property was already exhausted due to the number of movies in the franchise starring Milla Jovovich. The previous movies declined in quality by the end and than failing yet again to revive it.

There's nothing redeemable about this show, clearly. As it is pretty much a self own. It is badly written, casted and actors look like the phoned it in, other than the teen sisters who were over dramatic. I used to like Resident Evil quite a bit, but this another example that they should just leave some intellectual property alone.
  • Well, I tried. I gave the show a chance and it was just so bad that I gave up after about thirty minutes into the first episode.

Maybe I'm not the target audience, but this is another teen soap opera, this is definitely not Resident Evil.

The show could have been outstanding, but unfortunately this is another in a series of missed opportunities. They could have simply transferred the story and characters to the screen, but instead they chose to make a soap opera for teenagers.

There's no point in wasting time on something this bad. The dialogue is comical, some actors act terribly badly and this further destroys the already bad impression this series leaves.

Out of so many interesting characters, the writers and producers decided to deliver us another show with boring and unlikable teenage characters.

Quite simply, this show is an example of how to waste good potential.
  • Besides some famous name dropping there is really nothing Resident Evils about this. Incomprehensible that they can turn a horror genre into teenagers high school drama show. Typical again that netflix is killing this series. How hard can it be to just stick to the game characters something that viewers love to see reflected in the series. The high Woke score is also really something to get sick of.

Pain and effort to be able to see 3 episodes. Happy and excellent choice that it has been cancelled. Against my better judgement, I hope that Netflix will stop injecting their own agenda into series because as we have seen before, that just doesn't work.
  • Destroys the Resident Evil universe. Writing is horrible. Writing is about the same. Way too heavy on story. Limited action and monsters.

Wesker's character is completely different. It's really not Wesker at all. It's like they took took Charles Ashford or whoever and make a dorky geek family man of Wesker.
  • Just treat it as what it is, the storyline is a little thin but it's ok. Some good techie stuff in it but don't compare it to the RE movies (and even those got stale towards the end!).

Chewing gum for the eyes with some entertainment value. Just watch it and form your own opinion folks.

I ask the writers directors and show runners, What did we the fans do to deserve this horrific abomination? Seriously this show should be consider a hate crime.

First of all its painfully boring, the acting is, non existent its clear this was an easy pay day and nothing more for all involved, I watched two episodes in total and could not tolerate another second.

I ask you this, why can we not just have well written fantasy shows WITHOUT some keyboard activist ramming in political and social agendas down our throats? We don't want your not so subtle messages, we don't need them, and we will gleefully watch you cancelled for the insult.
  • Geez you just can't please the masses who always knew this wasn't going to be another reinvention of their favourite game. See it for what it is. Never played the games. No intention to start. Liked most of the movies.

I'm watching this as if I hadn't seen the movies. Or knew anything about Resident Evil. Special effects and CGI are great. Acting is good but not perfect. The swap between the two timelines 2022 and 2036 are really good. Showing the back story and the result of what the end result was 14 years later.

4 episodes in and the story is building nicely. Good storyline. Nice job.
  • The people that are complaining are either 1. Didnt finish the show. 2. want a re hash of the first 3 games (sure i get that. Im one of them too!) but ill give things a fair chance. Or 3. People obsessed with identity politics. Caugh! Caugh! (americans) literally no other country cries about this stuff.

I admit some of the writing in the first three episodes are a bit iffy like, the most convinient, dumb things happen just for the plot to go a certain way. But that happens with nearly every show these days. But once your 4 episodes in it all comes together and ties some parts of the games in. There was a lot of talent involved from every aspect. All the actors did a great job with what was given. World designs were good, defo feels like a decent budget for a tv show atleast. Just some of the writing in the first 3 episodes could have been worked on a little more. But once you actually bother to finish the show its fine. Might be better on a second veiwing which is what ill probably do soon. Hopefully they can sort everything out for season 2. Which i am looking forward to now i know where its heading and possible meeting with characters from the game.
  • Warning: Spoilers
This is my second review of this abysmal show. The other review obviously triggered someone even though it was within the guidelines.

This show was a PC pandering mess from two separate eggs from different donors sharing a womb to explain racially different sisters to a racially different father. Just an insulting pandering mess. Some executive somewhere thought it would be good to sign off on this idea because it covered all lifestyle and cultural difference as cheaply as possible.

In general the writing is just poorly executed and very convoluted, which in the end, ends up not even telling a story at all. Just sloppy.

The CGI was equally as bad and the story silly and trite in typical Netflix teen drama. Why can't a show just be about people and things and stuff and things without all the filler cultural nonsense?
  • Warning: Spoilers
First of all i don't know what is wrong with Netflix. Haven't they learned from their previous mistakes? Why on earth they would even think about another resident evil franchise? Is this series a joke with us? Even if someone hasn't watched other resident evil movies or played any games. He/she will not like this POS series. Let alone the fans of resident evil.

Now these writers and producers are only utilizing the resident evil name with zero content.

Running zombies? Are you kidding me? No zombie ever runs in the resident evil universe. What were they even thinking while making this pile of .... Anyway i rest my case and don't want to waste any more time on this super bad series.

    Save yourself while you can.

I've watched the first two episodes (so you thankfully don't have to) & can safely say - with a certain degree of confidence - you should simply add this show to the accumulating list of other substandard Netflix series which have already been consigned to history & forgotten by audiences; stuff like "Cursed" & "The Irregulars" etc. Commissioned by the streaming service (clearly hoping to lazily capitalise off of the recognisable brand by sheer association) to just fill their release slots & keep subscribers subscribed, in order to view something - ANYTHING - & their money rolling in every month. The quality obviously wasn't even considered before the season went in to production. It's all about profit.

This approach to content creation is painfully apparent moreso here than in most cases, in an egregiously unimaginative, badly written, clichéd & hammy first season, which acts as yet another sub-par installment to the franchise & a waste of the source material. A real shame, as this could've been a great sci-fi / horror series but alas, the potential's squandered. Can't say I'm enthused about continuing any further.
  • My god, what were they thinking. Where did they get these so called actors from ? Who cast them, and who finalised them for a show on Netflix.? Seriously what's wrong with the casting and production department to hire these people as the main leads for a Netflix show of such magnitude. Besides that ,story is pathetic. I really wish they didn't make this.

The last Resident Evil movie was a gem , hopefully they continue with that and not make the show on Netflix for a season 2.

WE DON'T WANT SEASON 2 , OK NETFLIX.. DID YOU GET THAT, PLEASE DON'T SPOIL THE MOVIE ANYMORE... THANKS.
  • So firstly yes I am a huge resi fan I have stuck with the rough along with the smooth , read comics ,books , fan fiction , the first batch of movies that progressively worse , the CGI movies which are pretty good and the new movie which has the same or very similar issues to this .

However I am also a movie fan and will give Most things a watch and like to suspend disbelief and get lost in a good series or movie even if changes are made from the source material as long as they are for the better .

This series so far is just a check list for the modern audience , ticking all the culture boxes for the sake of it , which is tiresome now as it's every single movie or series that comes out it's not original it doesn't add anything they do it just because .

But let's remove that issue and go back to the resi franchise , if you took the name Wesker and umbrella out of this it could be any generic Netflix zombie show . Yes the creatures are cool but other than that it's pretty poor.

I'm not sure why we can't just stick to the lore , the characters and do it for the fans , even a prequel series in the arklay mountains would or could be awesome leading upto the Spencer mansion incident , but we get this mess.

The characters are bland and cliche , the story is pretty predictable , and whilst I'm all in for character building and story this tries too hard with what are pretty much boring cardboard cutout characters .

It doesn't know what to do with them either , jumping from the modern setting to the future it drags it's feet and becomes frustrating , and the pacing is all off , one minute you will be in what feels like a tense horror scene and the next something that belongs in a Nickelodeon teenage sitcom .

The resident evil games especially the earlier ones have always been a bit hokey and had weird and whacky characters but this series I think tries to have serious characters but just really poorly acted , and when a hokey character does come in it feels really cringeworthy .

Like i say at the minute I'm at a stage where I want to turn it off but IV commited so far and will force myself to the end to hope things get better and we get more ties to the lore and characters we all love .

The guys who are giving it 1 star and just blasting it I would ignore I was going to give it 4 stars but just as I was finishing up they have just shoehorned a character from one of the games in which felt tacky and awful and again had no purpose other than just because .
  • A sci-fi horror drama focusing on a corporation conspiracy for some parts and then focusing on survival horror for the other parts.

Some of the acting is subpar, but the main character (who you'll be seeing a lot of) is a decent actor. Some of the other characters are also interesting and the dull characters do not stick around for long. In places, the atmosphere is suspenseful and you can tell most of the budget went on the monsters, followed by the sets.

The story does the same thing other series like Arrow does where it cuts between past and present. The past follows the teen characters understanding the truth of the corporation and effectively provides context to the corporation and eases you in to the characters. The present is a post-apocalyptic world where the main character is fighting to survive and carry on. Most dramatic bits are in the present, but the past is somehow more interesting.

It feels like the series doesn't pander to the fans and they hate that. The series isn't perfect (hence the score) but it's not bad. If you like this type of genre then go for it, it's not a slow burn. You can get right in. I wouldn't encourage anyone else to watch it but if you have some time to kill and want to start a new series then don't shy away from this one.
  • I've been a fan of all things Resident Evil for a long time, but aren't one of those people who rate things badly because something strays too far from the games or the originals or anything like that. I'm usually down for new things and get excited for new storylines and characters.

Infinite Darkness was fine-ish and I actually enjoyed Welcome to Raccoon City, but this new series makes for some tough watching. It seems more like a teenage drama than anything else so far and it hasn't grasped me four episodes in.

Lance Reddick has been the show's saving grace so far, but that's totally subjective because I think he's great in everything.

I'm going to finish the series because I've made it this far and although I'm not too hopeful, I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed.
  • If you look at it as a comedy show it's really enjoyable! Make a drinking game out of it. Drink each time plot armor is activated and each time there are lines that don't really sound like a human would say them. You'll be hammered after 1 episode. Have fun!
  • I'm a huge fan of the games, I have seen all the movies and I personally think this is waaaay better the than most recent movie. I like the characters and how real they are in this totally upside down world, the race swap they did was great, and I love Lance as Wesker! The direction they took here is very compelling.
  • ...with a couple of monsters thrown in, just so that it can be called Resident Evil. Started off ok, thought it would find its stride, but got more boring as it went on.

If you like teen dramas with family issues, you're in for a treat. If you're expecting Resident Evil, watch the films.
  • I was so disappointed to see a lifeless ,sad excuse for a Resident Evil series. No egde, gritt or heart. The zombies are laughably horrible and so is the pretty little starlet.

    1/10
    Avoid
Absolutely nothing to do with the game storylines. Another boring Zombie drama but can't come 1/1000 as close to the Walking Dead, which set the standard. Might as well as thrown vampires in here in love and called it a wrap.
