Gabriel García Márquez himself refused to sell the screen rights to his 1967 novel because he wanted it to be only a Spanish-spoken adaptation, and felt a film adaptation would not cover the entire plot due to its length. This adaptation is a TV show adapted in Spanish.
Three different versions of Macondo for different eras were built for the show.
Netflix adapted the novel into a two-part limited series spanning over 16 hours. The first eight episodes premiered on Dec. 11, 2024 with plans to stream the remaining eight sometime in 2025.
"One Hundred Years of Solitude" author Gabriel García Márquez's sons Rodrigo García and Gonzalo García Barcha serve as producers on the show.
