Bamboozled
(2000)

More then likely you will HATE this film!
If you are your average "middle class" person of any color with no ideas on race or social ills and the media you will hate this film! I loved it! It's really the first film in a long time to go into a lot of ideas about race and the media and business. I have to say that while watching it it reminded me of Robert Downey's "Putney Swope" (which is a must see if you liked this film). I can't really get into all that I want to say about this but Spike really out did himself this time making what I have to say is one of the best films of the year! It will be a film that people will look back on in 20 years and say "WOW!". I don't think that people want to deal with or even think about what is he talking about here, so they say they don't like it or go even beyond that, HATE IT!

LOVE or HATE IT! I LOVED IT!

THANK YOU SPIKE!

Apocalypse
(1998)

"Am I Atheist, THANK GOD!" - Luis Bunuel
I can't believe how bad this film is. It's amazing. The low budget stock footage, bad acting, bad directing, bad lighting, bad sound track and just tons of exposition on the end of the world according to the Christian myth!

I am glad I am not swept up into this like all the other responses on here! It's fun to watch and laugh at! I don't know what's funnier, the film or people who think this is good and take it seriously!

À Meia Noite Levarei Sua Alma
(1964)

A Masterpiece!!!
Jose Mojica Marins wrote, directed and stars in `At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul' as Ze do Caixao, the undertaker in a small Brazilian town. He more then anything wants a woman to carry on his blood line, to bear him a son. The people of the town fear him because he is not afraid of anyone. He has no believes of any kind and makes it clear to those around him. Ze is a nihilist in the truest sense of the word. His philosophy is Neitzche to the nth degree, "thy will is thy law". He sees himself as above everyone and that therefore justifies his actions. From eating meat on Good Friday to killing people.

Marins channels a lot of great directors in this film. From what I got visually, I would say that he must be a big fan of James Whale. Whale was known as one of the first directors to bring horror comedy together in one film. Marins uses a lot of Whale's visual look. `At Midnight...' could have been a Universal horror film from the 30's based on the look of the film. The reason I believe that it this film bares such a strong likeness to those films is because Brazil is not a world power in terms of economics like the European nations. So these films probably were the tops in terms of horror films distributed to that area in the 50's and 60's therefore having a major impact on the look and ideas of `At Midnight...' and Marins directorial style.

Marins also seems to have a huge love of surrealism via Luis Bunuel and in Bunuel's case as well as Marins', a playful use of blasphemy and religious mockery. Talking about philosophy and religious ideas are not common place in most horror films. About the extent of religious exposition is `Look a cross! We can use it to kill the vampire!'.

`At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul' is a masterpiece. There is no other way to say it. The film far exceeded all expectations I could have had. Fans of foreign film, foreign horror and for that matter horror film in general will not go away disappointed. Long live Coffin Joe!!!

Putney Swope
(1969)

Brilliant! This is the true face of underground filmmaking!
Robert Downey's "Putney Swope" is a film that I think is by far one the greatest social, political and business satires around! I can't even get into how much I love and admire this film! All I can say is all you independent filmmakers out there who think they are stirring up things, getting political! YOU HAVE NOTHING ON THIS FILM! Watch it and your jaw will drop! Amazing work! I believe that this film should be preserved as a national treasure for all independent filmmakers!

A message to Mr. Downey: WE NEED YOU TO MAKE MORE FILMS LIKE THIS and FAST!

Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie
(1972)

The Hungers of life!
In Bunuel's "Discreet Charm" we see a film about life! The desire to "feed" one's self is used through out the film. The dinner party is always broken up and they never get a chance to eat. They never go a chance to feed their desires in life be it food or sex. This is used a symbol to show that people are always starving inside and they are always searching (hence the last shot of the film!) A brilliant film by one of the greatest directors of film! 10 out of 10!!

Your Studio and You
(1995)

Drop Dead Funny!
If you know anything about Hollywood then watch this you will laugh your butt off! It's worth finding it just to see James Cameron plant trees and say "Sweeten, enhance, beautify"! Really fun short!
