Captain Fall
(2023)

Netflix pushes the boundaries of animation!
Once pitched as a live-action show, the series transformed into an animated trailblazer that is edgy, raunchy, and irreverent. Follow along as the lovable loser Captain Jonathan Fall (Jason Ritter) becomes unknowingly mixed up in the dangerous world of black-market peddling aboard the Caribbean Queen. The Naval Academy flunky is recruited by an international cartel as Ritter captures the innocence of this bumbling idiot stupendously. He's as effortless at slapstick humor as his legendary father was on Three's Company. And his brother Tanner (Adam DeVine) is just as inappropriate as DeVine's lovable Modern Family character Andy Bailey was innocent. In fact, this contrast seems rather metaphorical as this boundary pushing series converts a number of actors known for righteous roles into twisted deviants with no holds barred.

Cedric Yarbrough was hilarious in The Goldbergs and Speechless, and his golden voice lends credence to the bravado of the show's arrogant officer Chief O'Neil. The half-hour installments feature hilarity, from the dysfunctional Fall family members to the oddballs who come and go.

The characters of whom I'm most fond are the villainous antagonists, from the sensual Liza, played by South African Lesley-Ann Brandt of Lucifer, to Pedro whose smoky Latin voice is perfectly delivered by Mexican native Alejandro Edda. You'll even hear the familiar voices of Bebe Neuwirth (Cheers) and David Schwimmer (Friends). Fans of grown-up content conveyed through animation will love this show!

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
(2003)

Unbelievable!
I, like many, thought T3 would be a let down after the cutting edge computer wizardry of T2 blew us away in the early '90's. Not expecting much, thinking Jonathan Mostow would not be able to duplicate the magic that James Cameron created in the first two-thirds of this trilogy, I was absolutely amazed at what I saw.

The opening chase sequence is the best I've ever seen, better than the infamous car chases in "Ronin", "Striking Distance", "Mission: Impossible II", and "Gone in Sixty Seconds". Being a sound editor in the business affords me some expertise, and the audio in this movie was unbelievable! And having an incredibly hot Kristanna Sommer Loken as the sexy yet unrelenting killing machine was a lot more enjoyable than watching old Robert Patrick, the T-1000 from T2.

For the quintessential action movie fan, it may not be "Die Hard", but you'll find this movie surprisingly among the 20 best pure action movies ever made; a real gem for the summer of 2003. That's despite the weak ending and poorly made CG helicopters.

If you favor plotlines and emotions over kick-butt, non-stop action, just stay at home. I like plot too, but every once in a while, I just want to be entertained and overwhelmed by the sheer power of a movie.

Takin' It Back to the Streets
(1998)

Best homemade movie EVER MADE !!!
This movie is incredible. These guys from Tennessee shot a 2 hour feature film action/comedy with home video cameras, and it's budget was around $2000. And it was better than half the movies Hollywood makes. You have to order a copy. It's hilarious.

Ging chaat goo si III: Chiu kup ging chaat
(1992)

Jackie's greatest movie, EVER!
If you're a Jackie Chan fanatic, especially those who prefer his Hong Kong directed films (as opposed to American directed), then say hello to Jackie's best movie EVER! His most dangerous stunts, his closest brushes with death, not to mention Michelle Yeoh's bravest performance ever. Jackie is one incredible man, but you just can't top Super Cop, aka Police Story III (Jing cha gu shi III: Chao ji jing cha). It makes me want to go out and learn karate. INSPIRING!!!

Hard to Kill
(1990)

One of the greatest action movies ever filmed
Okay, so Die Hard is arguably the best action movie ever filmed. But Hard to Kill is arguably the second best action movie ever filmed. Steven Seagal's character went through so much anguish, seemingly losing everything he had. And then he beats the holy crap out of his enemies and nails the scum bag politician who was responsible for the whole thing. Nothing like sweet, sweet revenge. Seagal can be cheesy in other movies, but he kicked major butt in "Hard to Kill". You couldn't help but stand up and cheer.
