Robin Hood
(2006)

Robin Hood series aimed at American Market?
After all the hype leading up to this new series the reality was disappointing as I expected a lot more. Was not expecting this rendition to be quite so 'A Team' like i.e. no-one died or was even harmed in the first episode even though arrows were flying everywhere. Robin and Much, his sidekick, are reminiscent of Hercules and Aeolas from Hercules - The Legendary Journeys' series. BBC America appears in the credits at the end of the show if you hadn't already guessed that the series was aimed very much at the American market. I still loved the whole Robin Hood story so will watch it a little longer and give it a chance and I do enjoy Keith Allen as a baddie.

Thief
(2006)

Thief is gripping and compelling viewing
Thief is a new crime drama series that makes gripping and compelling viewing.

Great to see Andre Baugher, formerly Pembroke in Homicide - Life on the Streets, back on the screen again and in such a strong and powerful role.

If you like a good crime drama I challenge not to get hooked - we can't take eyes off the screen when each episode is on.

Nice to see Linda Hamilton, Sarah Connor in Terminator movies, and she also delivers a commanding performance.

The storyline is exciting and often unexpected which is unusual and very welcome.

I hope it runs for longer than 1 series!

Syriana
(2005)

I couldn't take my eyes off the screen during this gripping, dark movie
I found this a really good movie and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen from beginning to end. It was gripping, exciting, scary, frightening and very dark.

There were great acting performances by everyone in it but especially George Clooney and Matt Damon for me.

George Clooney was fat and bearded which will help people to concentrate on his acting abilities and the character he is portraying rather than daydreaming about the man himself! The torture scene involving fingernails is very believable - made me cringe almost as much as the first time I saw 'Marathon Man'.

Alexander Siddig is most familiar to me in the role of Julian Bashir in Star Trek Deep Space Nine but I found his performance as Prince Nasir Al-Subaai credible and enjoyable to watch.

Matt Damon is surprisingly good and his character has a twisted side following the tragic death of one of his sons that surprised me.

I'm female and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I did hear lots of silly girls complaining straight after the movie that they had just wasted money and 2 hours of their lives that they would never get back watching Syriana but this opinion was solely based on the fact that George Clooney was fatter, bearded and less attractive in their eyes than normal. I can only assume they hadn't seen a trailer or any posters for this movie beforehand!? Other shallow females - be warned!
